Pyloric Stenosis?

I am wondering if a child has Pyloric Stenosis does a suppository work.
Not that I've ever heard of.

Nonsurgical treatment for IHPS (Infantile Hyertrophic Pyloric Stenosis) with atropine sulfate, both intravenous and oral, has shown encouraging results. One patient needed intravenous atropine, as nasogastric tube feedings were not tolerated for the first 2 days, but the patient did well subsequently. In this study, all 12 patients were successfully treated nonsurgically without complication.

Surgical correction is considered the standard of care for all patients with IHPS; therefore, medical management should be reserved for patients who are poor surgical candidates or whose parents are opposed to surgery.  (+ info)

does anyone know if with pyloric stenosis if the muscle is always thicker or if it can just be closed? my second son had pyloric stenosis the muscle was thick and closed. now my daughter might have it but the ultrasound just showed it was only open a little.
not trying to be rude but no one answered my question it wasn't what is pyloric stenosis i know what it is if you read my son had it. the question is can you have it without the muscle being thick just it being closed?
Pyloric stenosis, a condition that affects the gastrointestinal tract during infancy, isn't normal - it can cause your baby to vomit forcefully and often and may cause other problems such as dehydration and salt and fluid imbalances. It is a narrowing of the pylorus, the lower part of the stomach through which food and other stomach contents pass to enter the small intestine. When an infant has pyloric stenosis, the muscles in the pylorus have become enlarged to the point where food is prevented from emptying out of the stomach. The narrowing can continue to a "closing" depending how severe.
Pyloric stenosis is about four times more likely to occur in male infants  (+ info)

My 2 weeks and half old baby have been projectile vomitting since we came back from the hospital. I have been to the ER twice since then, only to be told it was normal, not to worry. He is projectile vomitting once or twice daily, everyday (except for the last 2 days, thanks God).When i went to our family doctor for the two weeks check up...he requested an ultrasound for his abdomen, to check for Pyloric stenosis. On the page they gave me, it says for a normal person to be fasting from fat and milk..(and other things) 24 hours before the ultrasound. Now with a newborn, how am I suppose to do that?!... I called the nurse, and she said, to make it as long as possible without feeding before the appointment. Lukily the appointment is set for 7.30am, but still... she said, try 4 hrs or more if possible.How can I let my baby not eating for 4 hours...?! Did your baby have to get this ultrasound done.. and how many hours the baby didnt eat before the ultrasound? And how long is it gonna be?

Yes, my baby is gaining weight. He was born at 8lbs11oz, he is now 9lbs11oz.
And yes he is a boy, and my first baby.
My oldest daughter (now 23) went all night without eating. I got her in for the test and she was screaming. The ultrasound machine wasn't working and they were working on it. I finally just fed her. They did the test (as you know, it is usually in first born males, but her father had it, he was the 3rd born male). It turns out that she had a loose sphyncter muscle. The little muscle that is over the eppiglotis didn't stay shut, so everything would come back up. Feeding her real food helped, it was easier to keep down. If he has it, is is a simple operation. What are the chances of my baby getting pyloric stenosis?

My second son was born with pyloric stenosis, it was corrected when he was 4 weeks old. He has had several problems since, has gastral reflux disease and his bowels are not working. They are looking into him having chrons disease and he is only 3?
What are the chances of this baby that I am pregnant with having the same issues?
sadly if its a boy the chances are pretty high, but only your doctor would know that for sure, almost all the boys in my family has some form of intestinal illness and/or chrones, some of the girls also have it but it is not as common, if its a girl then the chances are slimmer that she would have these problems but not impossible, talk to your doctor about this and they should be able to advice you better than anyone on here

My son had pyloric stenosis when he was born and had it corrected at 4 weeks old. He has had so many problems since, have you gone through a child with pyloric or yourself and did you have any complications?
My husband (now 45) had pyloric stenosis. He nearly died as a result, because it was not recognized for some time by the doctors. His parents think they thought he was being abused/neglected. Finally, he was hospitalized and the problem diagnosed. At 6 weeks old, he had surgery to correct it. He has a huge scar across his abdomen, as back then it was not as easily done as it is now. I have never heard of there being any problems afterwards, though he remained in the hospital for several weeks to recover.

What sort of problems is your son having? Has he had a follow up appointment? If you are concerned, you should call his doctor.  (+ info)

I'm a 31 year old female who had pyloric stenosis surgery at two weeks old. I'm just wondering if there is any correlation between the surgery and being overweight as an adult.

My daughter who is 19 now had this at two weeks old also and she has had no wieght issues due to this. I also had an older brother who is 46 who had this as a baby and he has always been thin. Sorry but i dont think it is anything to do with the pyloric stenosis..  (+ info)

When are bowel movements expected after Pyloric Stenosis Surgery?

My 6 week old son just had surgery to correct his pyloric stenosis. His surgery was on Monday and it is now Thursday and still no bowel movement. His spitting up is minimal now and sometimes rare, but he seems very fussy and uncomfortable and I'm assuming its from his lack of bowel movement. He cries in pain when he passes gas also. Just curious how long I should wait until I give him something for it?

Coughing and vomiting after pyloric stenosis surgery?

My 6-week old son had surgery for pyloric stenosis 3 days ago. He has stopped vomiting immediately after feeding but instead now coughs and vomits because of a gag reflex brought on by the coughing. The vomiting is still projectile sometimes. Is this normal? Could the tube inserted during general anesthesia be causing the coughing and iritation?
no, no, no! Call his doctor. My son had the same surgery and after the initial first two hours of soreness...absolutely no more progectile and coughing should be present after the first few hours after. Please contact the hospital or doctor. After Mikey's surgery for the first 4 hours his throat was super sore but I was told he would be perfectly fine right away..>I was so shocked but it was absolutely true!  (+ info)
