How high should a fever be before I need to take my 7 year old to an after hours clinic?

My seven year old has had a fever for the last twodays, we give him tylenol and it goes down. We are planning on taking him to see his doctor first thing tomorrow morning, but his temerature is at 102.6. Should we take him to an after hours clinic tonight? Or are we okay to take him to his doctor tomorrow?
----------

you should try to give hime childrens Motrin.....it works quicker at bringing the high fever down and last for 8 hours, I believe......Try to give him this before he goes to bed tonight as the fever usually goes up in the middle of the night.... It may last until you can get him to the dr???  (+ info)

How to fake a fever with an ear thermometer?

I know, I should go to school, yadayada, this isn't for school, this is for the weekend. I don't want to go on a trip with my step-father.

What is an acceptable fever for a toddler that is teething?

If you child is teething, what is an acceptable fever? I know that they have low-grade fevers as a common symptom of teething. What is considered low-grade? Seems like our day care sends our kid home a lot for running fevers and I think it's probably just him teething since we see other symptoms (finger in mouth, slightly runny nose, red cheeks...).
----------

When my little ones were teething, they always ran 100 - 101 fever. I would think that 99 would be ok but it is a very good idea what your day care does. There are rules with the government when you own a day care. One of those things is just common sense. If my baby had a fever I would stay home and take care of it.......teething or not. Which, by the way, I did do with both of my babies. I know that times are hard now and money is hard to obtain these days and it does not go far so...Low Grade is below 98.7. I wish you all the luck in the world !!!  (+ info)

Does anyone else get a fever around the time you start your period?

For the last 7 months or so I have gotten a fever on the day I start my period or a few days before or after my period. Is this Normal, and if its not normal, does anyone know what the cause could be? I feel all achy and cold while I have the fever, but I guess thats just symptoms of the fever. I don't have health insurance so I don't want to go to the doctor unless I really need to. Thanks for your help!
----------

It is normal. Some people get it, some don't. It's just a reaction to the fluctuating hormone levels in your body. Similar to the hot flashes experienced by menopausal women, just less extreme.  (+ info)

How long should you let a fever run before you should get concerned?

My son has been running a fever for a couple of days. It ranges from 101 - 103 F. I've been giving him over the counter meds but they really aren't bringing it down. Suggestions?
He's 16 years old.
----------

it really depends on the age and the other symptoms. Just call the peds office and ask them if they think he needs to be seen or if you should continue with the meds. What are you giving him - my peds office suggested toggling between tylonal and motrin  (+ info)

What causes a fever and what do you do to get rid of it?

I really want to know the causes of a fever.
How children of the age of 12 get fevers at 38.9 degrees. How do you get rid of it? help.
----------

A fever is the body's natural response to infection. When a bacteria or virus enter your body, your body sees them as foreign invaders. Your body, being the miraculous machine that it is, knows that the bacteria and viruses cannot survive very well at high temperatures.... so, your body raises it's body temperature in an attempt to "fry" the bacteria. So, believe it or not, a fever is actually a good thing! It means that your body is doing it's job, and it's a very effective strategy to get rid of "bugs". So... in adults, a fever should not be treated unless it reaches 38.9 or above (that's 102 F) OR it's making the person uncomfortable. In other words, if their fever is only 38.4, but their miserable because they have chills and are sweating then go ahead and take something for it, but try to stick it out as much as you can. For infants the magic number is 38 (100.4) and you should give them something to relieve the fever and call the doc. For children (ages 2-12) 38.3 (101) is about the time you want to medicate them using acetaminophen (tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin). Always follow the instructions on the label! Giving/taking more will not bring the fever down faster, it will only increase the workload of your liver and kidneys. Ibuprofen should not be given to infants under 6 months and never ever ever give aspirin to a child under 12 because it can cause something called Reye's syndrome which is life threatening.
Also, eating cool foods, such as a popsicles can help to alleviate some discomfort. A cool cloth on the forehead can do the same.
You can also take a room temperature bath.. NOT a cool bath. Cool baths will only make you have chills. A tepid bath has the same effects that a cool bath does. Anytime a fever is unresolved or accompanied by a stiff neck, lethargy, hallucinations or seizures immediate medical attention should be sought.  (+ info)

What is the best way to actually get a fever?

My parents are very strict, and I really need to stay home from school the next day. They are going to want proof, and without a fever, Im not going to skip school. I DONT want to fake it, I need to ACTUALLY get a fever.
----------

While I do not condone this course of action, I believe this will work: stop drinking fluids and stop urinating altogether. You will of course become dehydrated, but your body should begin to overheat. This could take a few days and much discipline. This will also probably actually make you sick.

Once again, I do not advise you to do this, but am only offering it as educational information.  (+ info)
