Could a family history of renal failure be affecting me?

My maternal grandmother died from renal failure at the age of 63. I am 24 years old and have been experiencing frequent bladder infections (4 so far this year). Could my family's history be causing this? I also suspect my recent miscarriage was due to an infection. Anyone have any insight on this?
----------

Your frequent bladder infections could be attributed to having sex. It's really a common complaint for women. But chronic renal failure is usually not caused by small infections. Most likely, her renal failure was the result of other conditions. ie. diabetes type II, caronary artery disease, high blood pressure, etc. What does you ob say about the cause of your miscarriage?   (+ info)

what should be done to prevent renal failure r derangements in Myeloma patients?

Pt. of multiple myeloma receiving Thall.+Dexa chemotherapy(3 cycles) has developed slight edema over face. What precautions should be taken to prevent Renal derangements?
----------

renal problems are caused by light chain and calcium loading -

to combat both - drink a LOT of water to flush kidneys (unless doc says otherwise). I drink at least 750 ML 3x a day - on top of "normal" liquids

What kinds of food lead to high blood urea nitrogen (BUN) for a renal failure patient ?

My mother is a chronic renal failure patient . Although she maintains a very strict vegetarian diet with less than 40 gms of protein per day, she has been getting BUN values as 18.8 mg/dL . Her serum creatinine is 1.5 mg/dL and Potassium is 4.5 mg/dL.
----------

I suggest she takes Trifactors of 4life which will help her get back to good health. It has helped several people to get over renal problems. Trifactors helps the immune system to work in an optimal manner and due to this, the production of enzymes and hormones are controlled by the immune system. The BUN values will also come down soon.  (+ info)

Did you find out you had underlying adrenal insufficiency while treated with levoxyl? What did you do?

My Dr. hasn't been interested in checking adrenals. I am stressed, don't sleep and have recently read that levoxyl is contraindicated when an underlying adrenal insufficiency is present. I have conversion pain because I don't convert t4 properly so I have no energy or metabolism. This will kill me unless I figure out how to get a Dr. who thinks out of the box and understands endocrine systems beyond what conventional medicine teaches.
Help.

can you give me the circulation from renal artery to the renal veins? on the kidney?

can you give me the circulation from renal artery to the renal veins? on the kidney?
----------

It depends on how many steps you want:

A not-too-detailed version:
renal artery -> interlobar artery -> arcuate artery -> interlobular artery -> afferent arteriole -> glomerulus -> efferent arteriole -> peritubular capillary (or vasa recta, depending on if you are in the renal cortex or the medulla) -> interlobular vein -> interlobar vein -> renal vein  (+ info)

Diabetes is one of the leading cause of renal failure in the US?

What will the government and the department of health do to prevent diabetes and renal failure?
----------

There is already a lot of money spent on research...the problem is that many, even most patients could avoid getting DM II just through propper diet and exercise.
100 years ago this disease was virtually unheard of..now today we eat sugar like it's going out of style.  (+ info)

What is the best treatment for leg vein insufficiency?

I am pg so I cannot currently lose any weight until after the baby is born but I had problems before so should I stay off my feet as much as possible? Being on feet is just so painful and I don't want a blood clot. What do you guys think?
----------

Well I did not suffer with the leg vain, but I did suffer with the weak cervix thing and that no dozy as well. It's all most the same thing, it consist of begin off of your feet . Mine usually stated around my 4Th mouth. I deliver early do to the problem so I was 7ms. So 4-7 ms is only three mouths but seems as if it a lot. Note that I had 4 other children at this time and a hubby and they like to eat LOL(:). So I suggest that you stay off your feet as much as possible.

If you have to do chores then do them sitting down, that can help as well. Take a chair in the kitchen if you have to cook and only cook a light meal nothing to heavy or lengthy  (+ info)

Can chronic venous insufficiency (fluid retention in lower legs) be reversed?

Having sat at a desk for the last 30 years, I recently discovered that I have fluid retention in my lower legs. Seems it is called chronic venous insufficiency. I wear support hose which helps. Also, on days I exercise, it is not a problem. But my question is whether this sort of vein problem can heal itself, or whether the damage that's been done is irreversible. I am 60, not much overweight, and work out or play tennis several times per week.
----------

Chronic venous insufficiency is caused by widening of the leg &/or thigh veins, thereby preventing the valves to propel blood from the feet to the heart in a one way direction. In short, some of the blood that is supposed to go to the heart, is retained in the lower extremity.

Application of elastic compressive stockings will prevent the widening of the vein, thereby simulating the function of a leg vein. But after removing the stockings, the veins re- dilate. So this is not actually a cure.

Another treatment is to ablate the vein, which is severely dilated. This again is not reversing the anatomy. You just removed the problem.

I think the only plausible treatment which we can say is reversal of the chronic venous insufficiency is-- repair of the insufficient venous valve or valvuloplasty, ( if the anatomy will allow it) . This can be done by experienced vascular surgeons.  (+ info)

Why do not all optometrists specialise in convergence insufficiency?

After endless visits to optometrists as a child it was not until i was 46 that an optometrist that specialises in
convergence insufficiency who fixed my literacy problems.
If all optometrists check all there patients for convergence insufficiency there would be less kids with learning problems." By the way i was wrongly diagnosed with dyslexia"
----------

I work as a vision therapist for a Developmental Optometrist. It is amazing how many people have stories similar to you own. As a former teacher, I believe you are correct, "there would be less kids with learning problems" if more optometrists practiced vision therapy. Here is a website that can help others find doctors in their area.
