What is a good recipe for a birthday cake for a renal person?

My father was recently diagnose with having Renal issues (kindney failure) and his birthday is May 16th. What is a good recipe for a person who can't have sugar, salt, or butter and is also renal friendly.
----------

well, i am currently on dialysis and also diabetic, so i follow this diet as well, which isn't easy! we are allowed butter--unsalted is better. if he is diabetic then yes he must also be careful with sugar. to be on the safe side, i'd go with an angel food cake, which you can get in a sugar free version, but they are usually very light and not too sugary made the regular way. here's a nice cake a friend just recently made me, very easy recipe:
you need:
store bought angel food cake
1 package of sugar free vanilla pudding
1 20 oz. can of crushed pineapple, with the juice
1/2 tub of cool whip
strawberries (or whatever fresh berries you prefer) for garnishing

cut the cake across twice, giving you 3 layers. mix together pudding mix, pineapple with the juice. after mixed well, fold in cool whip. spread mixture in between layers of cake. garnish with fresh berries.
you can also look for recipes on davita.com, a website for kidney patients.  (+ info)

What indicates whether renal impairment has developed recently?

I've been told to consider normochromic, normocytic anaemia. But I don't know why nomochromic normocytic anameia would indicate recent renal impairment? How does this differ from chronic ones?

Help!
----------

instead of struggling on the nomenclature of disease conditions, diagnosis, etc., better try safe method of tackling anaemia.

What is the life expectancy of someone with end stage renal failure?

My father is 75 years old and suffers from stage 7 Alzheimer's. He can not talk, walk, or even swallow and has just been diagnosed with end stage renal failure. We have decided not to give him dialysis or medications. Realistically, how much longer does he have to live?
----------

This is from the National Kidney Foundation website:
"How long will I live if I choose to stop dialysis?
This varies from person to person. People who stop dialysis may live anywhere from one week to several weeks, depending on the amount of kidney function they have left and their overall medical condition." (See my link below)

I have been on dialysis, and saw a lot of older people there who seem to be suffering, and they did not even have Alzheimer's. I think your family has made a wise decision. I had a kidney and pancreas transplant in 2005. If I get to live to 70 or so, and my transplanted kidney has failed, I doubt I will go back on dialysis.  (+ info)

How long after stopping oatmeal can I expect renal numbers to improve?

I had asked an earlier question about increase in serum creatinine and BUN due to consumption of oatmeal in the renal impaired patients like me.
Could someone (may be Lisa & Steve who answered the last question) can tell as to how much time after i stop oatmeal should I expect my renal numbers (BUN and serum creatinine) to improve?
----------

If the oatmeal is to blame, then up to two weeks should pass before your numbers will improve.  (+ info)

How long does someone with stage 4 Renal cell carcinoma have?

My grandfather, 83, has stage 4 renal cell carcinoma. The cancer has spread to his lungs (several tumors on lungs), bladder, gall bladder, and the doctor said he could feel tumors all over. I just want a realistic outlook for his life expectancy. He will be receiving immunotherapy in a few weeks but his general practice doctor seemed to think he had weeks to a few months to live. His oncologist didn't give him a time frame. I just want to know what he is looking at. He already is having trouble breathing.

No one knows. My wife has stage IV renal cell carcinoma and no one thought she would make it one year.It been a tough road, but shes still here 5 years 5 months latter.  (+ info)

How can I lose weight while on a renal diet?

I have a kidney disease and was recently put on a renal diet. It consists of very little meat and lots of starchy foods. I have gained a lot of weight because of this. There's quiet a few fruits that I cannot have because their high in potassium. I've tried eating a lot of salad, but I can only take so much. If there is anyone who is going through the same thing, please help.
----------

There are lots of other kidney patients and caregivers who can answer similar questions on the dialysis message forum at www.ihatedialysis.com. There is also a food and recipe section that you may find helpful. I wish you the best of luck.  (+ info)
