which of the following are considered diseases of the lower respiratory tract?

here are the options...
diphtheria and pneumonia
influenza and diphtheria
tuberculosis and pneumonia
common cold and tuberculosis

i keep thinking its pneumonia and diphtheria but then i get confused and the common cold is bothering me....its driving me nuts! please let me know if im right with pneumonia and diphtheria if im not right then can you tell me what it is and explain to me why or how? thanks!
----------

The answer is tuberculosis and pneumonia. An upper respiratory tract infection effects the nose, throat. larynx, and trachea, while a lower infection effects the lungs, bronchi, bronchioles, and aveoli. Diphtheria, influenza, and the common cold are all upper respiratory infections, so the answer is TB and pneumonia. Check out these websites if your interested in learning more:

The impact of respiratory diseases on our economy in lost work?

If you look at the impact of respiratory diseases on our economy in lost work time, and also in profits to the advertising and pharmaceutical industries - what would happen if vaccines were developed that prevented 95% of colds? What would happen to the number of sick days people took? What would happen to the cold/flu section of your local drug store?

What are the effects of smoking have on the respiratory tract?

I Need to know what are the effects of smoking have on the respiratory tract of the body only...i need this in a lot of detail...thanx in advance!?!?!?!
----------

So I'll tell you one kind of gross little fact.
So you have cilia in your trachea that help bring excess fluids up to your mouth so that it doesn't go to your lungs. when you smoke you paralyze the cilia and this is why you have to cough more to keep the fluid coming up instead of going down into your lungs, when a smoker is sleeping alot of fluid/gunk is sitting in their throat, so they may have to do some hefty hawking in the morning.  (+ info)

What are some uncommon respiratory diseases?

im doing a research paper and the title pretty much sums it up..Also, is asthma a respiratory disease?
----------

Look up "pneumoconioses" for unusual respiratory conditions.
Yes asthma is a local pulmonary condition. Receptors within the lung over respond to allergens. In other words it is hyper reactive airway condition.Yes. there are other types of asthma but by far the most common is the allergic type.
There are parasitical and fungal conditions which are as fascinating as they are deadly. Look under the different types of pneumonia.
Fibrosis from immunological conditions are interesting too.
To me it's all interesting but that's just me.
God bless.  (+ info)

How to treat respiratory tract infection?

I keep coughing this yellowish stuff out of my throat. It smells like bad breath on steroids. What can I take for it?
----------

The best way to treat a respiratory tract infection is to see a doctor and get antibiotics as if left untreated there is the risk of it getting worse, going to the chest, causing pneumonia and which could lead to death.  (+ info)
