Do the mumps, measles and rubella virus have scientific names?

I have searched ans all i can find is
Mumps is caused by: the mumps virus (etc.)
Surely this cannot be right? It's a homework that has to be in for next monday but i have to print it tomorrow.
----------

The mumps virus is a member of the family Paramyxoviridae

The measles virus is a member of the genus Morbillivirus of the family Paramyxoviridae

Rubella is from the family Togaviridae, genus Rubivirus  (+ info)

How do you catch mumps, measles or rubella?

Each separately if you're just telling me but websites would be appreciated. I have tried to find out on the internet but there is very little and not enough detail.
I would also like the full names of the micro-organisms that cause them.

measles is done. just mumps and rubella to do. *sighs*
the information i need most at the moment is the transmission of the rubella virus. I don't need the cause because i have checked and they are different.

How soon after Rubella vaccination can I safely fall pregnant?

As title thanks.
----------

I used to work in a child care centre and we had to have boosters for rubella. The Dr told us to be extra careful not to get pregnant for 3 months following the vaccine. Anytime after the 3 months is fine.  (+ info)

Why do you think they stopped making separate vaccinations for measles, mumps, and rubella?

Do you think it was for politics, profit, control, or some other reason?

I don't know why but I think it wasn't smart for them to do! It left a lot of people who were doing them separately without a way to finish off the series! I don't vaccinate, but if I did, I would do them separately, and this would tick me off! And they don't plan on returning the separate ones until at least 2011!
----------

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Was Merck planning all along to resume production in 2011, or did they decide to do that after the public outcry? That would be strange since I can't imagine them not anticipating the outcry.

And if they are starting again because of all the complaints they received, why are they waiting until 2011? I think there's more to this story than we know.  (+ info)

How can I prove my immunity to Measles/Rubella?

I need to do this for my University,

- I dont have my papers because Im an international student and I left them in my home country, so showing my record of shots is not an option.

Can I have a blood test done or something?
----------

Your choices are
1. Get a blood titer for measles and rubella to show you are immune. If you are sure you had the shots (2 of them), it is very likely they will be positive and you would not need to do anything else.
2. Get another MMR.

Your choice will depend on the cost and on your views on getting another shot that you probably don't need. But if you turned up not to be immune on one of the diseases, you would need the shot anyway.  (+ info)

why is it dangerous to have rubella while being pregnant???

I heard that having rubella while being pregnant is very dangerous and maybe fatal.I want to know why.and want to know how can I get sure if I had it before or no..I asked my mother she told me I had a MMR vaccination when I had few months and that maybe I had rubella but it with low symptoms so it may have been just a cold .
but she's not sure.and then I heard that the MMR vaccine should be taken twice one time after birth and one time while having between 9-12 years old to activate the vaccine in the body.
but I have only taken it the first time.so what to do????????
I'm not pregnant but just worried if I have it while being pregnant known that my mother is not sure if I had it or not and that I didn't have the second time vaccination.
----------

Go to the Dr and ask about your immunity, they will probably take blood, if it comes back that you are not immune they will give you a shot to make sure you are. It is especially important to do it before you become pregnant as having Rubella in pregnancy can cause some deformities.  (+ info)

Where Do I get a rubella immunity test?

My GP says they will only do a test once you are pregnant but isn't that too late if you aren't immune?
----------

GPs are weird about tests sometimes. Go to your OB and request a rubella titer before you are pregnant. Even if you had your shot as a child it depends on what vaccine and timeframe you got your shot. They had a problem with shots from the 70s and early 80s so most people get a booster before they are college aged. If you had a booster sometime in your late teens early 20s you are probably fine but it is best to check it out before you get pregnant and an OB/GYN would be the type of doctor to realize this.  (+ info)
