How often should one have head bath if suffering from flaky scalp or dandruff? What is the best home remedy?

I have been suffering from flaky scalp for a long time now. Should we bath often or once in a while if we have dandruff? If often how often. What are the best home remedies for this problem? I'm currently using Apple Cider Vinegar to be applied on scalp before having bath.

I have tried many many things and found that I have to just use head and shoulders all the time. Its not very glamorous, I would rather find a "cure", but this is the closest thing to a cure I have managed. I have had this same problem all my life. Best of luck to you!  (+ info)

How to prepare hair and scalp before relaxer?

I'm going to the beauty shop tomorrow for a touch up. I just want to make sure that my scalp and hair is prepared for the chemicals. I've already been very cautious of not scratching for the past 2 weeks and my beautician coats my scalp with a layer of petroleum jelly to protect it. I was wondering what are some more things I could do tonight to prevent any kind of burning and to prepare my hair for the chemicals.

u could probably deep condition it also.  (+ info)

How do I stop my scalp from flaking?

For the past few months or so I've noticed that my scalp is very flaky and can't figure out why or how to fix it. I've only used dandruff shampoo a couple of times but I'm wondering if consistent use is what I need to do to get results. I don't use any styling products & I wash my hair every other day, sometimes every day, but I do dry and straighten it with an iron every time I wash it. I've never had a problem with a flaky scalp until recently and I need help to stop it!! Please, any suggestions on what I can do to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Names of shampoos/conditioners would be helpful among other things.

I had the same problem recently. I went to get my hair done for a wedding saturday and the hairstylist told me a way to get rid of it. After taking a shower dry your hair very well then put lotion in your hands and rub it on to the scalp. Your hair is not gettin enough moisture. Do not let your hair dry nautrully.  (+ info)

What is the best solution for a dry scalp?

It only happens in the winter time. My head isn't itchy, and it doesn't hurt. My scalp is flaky though. I've tried Head & Shoulders, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Any brand recommendations for hair products would be great! Do I need a moisturizing shampoo instead of a dandruff shampoo?
----------

What you need is a scalp moisturizer ( i went through this for years, every single winter). My fave is Nioxin Scalp therapy, if you cant find that get AG Stimulator Balm, both can be found at beauty supplies/salon  (+ info)

how do i get rid of a dry scalp without harmful chemicals?

i've tried lemon juice and olive oil being soaked on my head, but nothing has really helped it. my skin is very sensitive and dandruff shampoos make it drier, so i would like a recipe that i could just whip up easily at home that would make my hair and scalp healthier and more moisturized. because the flakes are pretty annoying.

"Overwashing and overbrushing can irritate your scalp and dry out the natural oils that keep your hair and scalp feeling soft and moisturized. If you wash your hair every day, try cutting back to every other day or every two days. When you do wash, don't vigorously scrub or scratch your scalp -- just rub in gentle circles with the tips of your fingers. Choose a brush with bristles made from natural fibers, or use your fingers to comb through your hair. Brushing too hard and too often can irritate your scalp and increase the dry, static-y feeling in your hair.

Choose a shampoo and conditioner designed specifically to treat dry hair and scalp. Look for the dry hair formula of your normal shampoo (such as Suave Dandruff Control) or try a product exclusively aimed at dry hair and scalp, such as the Selsun Blue or Head & Shoulders lines of shampoo and conditioner. Look for ingredients like zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, or coal-tar. Switching to a salon-grade shampoo and conditioner can also help your dry hair and scalp. These products are more expensive, but also contain less "filler" ingredients; you'll also be able to ask a cosmetologist for help finding the right product for your skin and hair."

Good luck.  (+ info)

Is there a medical term to my scalp problems?

Well, my scalp seems to be a nuisance to me. Whenever my head heats up, my scalp itches excessively and it flakes alot. I've tried different dandruff shampoos and they work for about 1-2 months and then my scalp somewhat develops immunity against the shampoo.

Is there any treatment to this? Is there a specific term to this? Is it hormones?

And no, its not just dandruff.

Is conditioner bad for your scalp or should never touch your scalp while using it?

Some of my friends say its bad for ur scalp. So i was jus wonderin.
----------

No but it makes your hair look a bit oily. usually what I do is shampoo my scalp, rinse, then condition my ends (what would be a ponytail length) and when I'm rinsing that I pile my hair in top of my head so my scalp doesn't flack or itch. It moisturizes just enough.  (+ info)

How do I maintain dandruff and a itchy scalp?

My scalp gets real itchy if it hasn't been washed in over two weeks. I guess it is just a reaction because I try to wash my hair every two weeks but lately I've been missing a couple of weeks.
----------

It is actually good NOT to wash your hair everyday. I only wash mine every 3 or 4 days. (every 2nd day when I was a teenager). The oil that builds up is good for your hair.

As for dandruff, try a shampoo that is made specifically to get rid of it like "Head and Shoulders". Make sure you rinse it well.  (+ info)

Is it safe to put alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on your scalp?

I have some scabs on my head from bug bites and I cant seem to stop picking them off. Would it hurt my scalp to dab some alcohol or peroxide on them? Or maybe even salt? Anything to help them heal better without irritating my scalp would be lovely. Any suggestions?
----------

Dilute the hydrogen peroxide first with water, maybe 50/50 or 2/3 water to 1/3 peroxide. This helps with sensitive areas like the mouth and open sores.  (+ info)
