Has anyone had a seroma last more than 6 months after a c-section?

I had my daughter in late July, and I still have the seroma resulting from the staple removal. I've had the doctors look at it and tell me that is it healing just fine. For the first couple weeks,I had to pack gauze in it to prevent infection. I still have drainage from the seroma almost 8 months later. I have a high white blood cell count, and I've been experiencing intense nausea and digestive problems due to the infection. Has anyone else ever experienced this with a seroma? and for this long?
----------

i had my daughter july 27th via c section. my doctor used desalvable sutchers inside and glue and tape on the outside. it healed within days..my scar looks like a tiny 4 inch purple line and its fast fading. before i had my c section i talked to my doctor about staples. he told me they were barbaric. that no good doctor should still use them. u should sue ur doctor. i was feeling good after just 9 days after birth...still took it easy but thats all. no pain..no lumps or drainage...sorry. u should go to a different doctor!  (+ info)

Post Op tummy tuck... need advice about seroma?

20 days post op for breast implants, tummy tuck, and lipo. A few days ago, I sneezed a few times and felt a small tearing sensation in my upper abdomen. The pain lasted a few minutes. Now I have developed a seroma in my upper abdomen with slight pain and discomfort when moving. My next appointment is in 6 days. Few questions here:
1. Should I continue to wear my binder?
2. Would the binder push the fluid to other places(ex. above the binder)?
3. Does aspiration hurt?
4. What is involved with aspiration, do they numb it first?
5. Should I call my doc and let him know about this new development or should I just wait til the appt?
6. Is there anything I can do to increase absorption of the fluid?
----------

1- wearing the binder may help reduce the amount of seroma fluid produced.
2- It may push fluid elsewhere or stop production. Seroma fluid is thought to be produced by friction or movement along the tissue planes, so the binder may help with preventing excessive motion.
3- typically very little, since the area of skin that had surgery is relatively numb.
4- it's option to numb or not before needle aspiration. The aspiration is just placing a needle through the skin into the fluid pocket, and aspirating it out.
5- I would definitely recommend contacting your doctor ASAP. The sooner he/ she knows about it, the sooner the seroma can be resolved.
6- talk to your doctor, but wearing a binder and needle aspiration may help.  (+ info)

My Daughter had a C Section, now her Dr. said she has Seroma. ?

Her incision is wide open, they didnt put a bandage on it. What's the best way to treat this? Healing time frame? Infection? Scar tissue?
----------

I had a c-section December 30th, and had the same problem. They took the staples out the day I left the hospital and put stery-strips on them (sp?)... It came open a few days after I got home so I went to the ER & they said it was a seroma.. They said the treatment is to pack gauze in it soaked in saline and then tape another piece of gauze on top of it to keep it in there.. The reason you pack it in there is to prevent the top from healing before the inside of it so you're not left with a bubble on the inside that's still open... You also change it twice a day, every thing you need you can buy at a drug store or the doctor can give you the supplies..It's a slow process as far as healing it takes a few weeks, mine is still not healed and it's been about two weeks since it came open.. I've never had an infection with mine, they told me not to take a shower because germs could get in there, but because my opening is only about an inch or so wide I bought some big water proof band aids & started taking showers and have had no problems at all with it.. As far as scar tissue, they said it should heal up well, and look pretty much like the rest of my incision, so we'll see.. Anyways I hope your daughters incision heals up well, congrats on the new addition to your family!  (+ info)

How long does it take for an operation cut to heal completely?

age-15 yrs
sex-female
medical history-nothing significant
operation done for huge collection of seroma on right thigh post an accident
----------

If it was not infected it should heal quickly. Stitches or staples usually come out in 5-10 days and then about another week to get really strong. You may always have a slight scar there.  (+ info)

Recovering after Lumpectomy?

How is the best way to recover from a breast lumpectomy so as to have the breast return as close to normal as possible. It is currently still filled with the seroma fluid?
----------

5 years after surgery to remove a 20mm tumor, I only have a slight dimple where the surgery occurred - only noticeable when naked.

I found self administered lymphodema massage helped (oncologist recommended).

Using flat palm of hand on opposite side to surgery, repeat each action 4 times before moving on to the next action and use a light pressure, like stroking a kitten.

Start at the breast bone and stroke away from the surgery site.
Next upper breast from armpit to breastbone, then centre breast across nipple then lower breast.

If you had lymph nodes removed, then do the underarm from back to front, then upper arm, then elbow area then lower arm then wrist then hand.

I found this worked best in the shower with soapy hands!

Good luck.  (+ info)

Yes it is extremely bad not only for your knee, but for the rest of your body.  (+ info)

abortion due to previous c-section complications or chance it?

2nd child, c-section resulted in a tennis ball sized abcess in my abdomin, cellulitis and seroma (fluid build-up) which left me on a wound vacuum for months, just stopped using it 3 months ago. I was hospitolized for a week, when my newborn was only 2 weeks old getting intravenous drugs for the strong infection and a 2nd invasive surgery for drainage. i am 10 weeks preg again now and I am scared my uterus will rupture (i have big babies, last one was 11lbs 4 oz. and 22 inches long.) I need to decide wheither to abort or have the baby and possibly risk my life. I am against abortion, but there is a medical/health factor now. I will be going to the dr soon, but don't think they'l get the sonogram done in time to confirm the fetal in time for me to proceed with an abortion before the 12th week... Should I take the health risk, or have the abortion and deal with the emotional downturn, but save my health for my existing kids?? pls help!!

Bilateral mastectomies & Lat Tram reconstruction?

Hi there,

My mum had breast cancer in her left breast 20 years ago - after having the lump removed and radiotherapy, she was all fine. At the beginning of this year it was discovered that the cancer has come back, in both breasts. 2 months ago she had a bi masect & Lat Tram reco. She was recovering well except for the SEroma (fluids) which she was continuing to get drained every week. Last week tho, everything started hardening; looking angry; changing shape; becoming sore; she was becoming lethargic. I took her back to the hospital on Sat and she is still there today. The docs keep marking out the spread of 'infection' although they don't even think it is that. Her clear fluid is now only black blood and her shape looks like an implant slowly growing and growing daily - causing bruising down her tummy (new since yesterday) and all over her chest. We kind of feel like this was a pioneering op in the region and now that her left breast is battling - either due to the radio 20 years ago or because her body is rejecting perhaps?? - the doc's can't tell her what or how she is going? DOes that all make sense? Basically, we are looking for someone who may have experienced the same - none of the ladies in her support groups have had this? Thanks for all helpful answers!
Thanks - only thing is, she hasn't had implants - just her lat dorsi muscles flapped from her back to the front.... Would be easier if they were implants!

17 weeks pregnant with 2nd child, i'm afraid of uterine rupture, what should i do?

OK, I had my dd in Feb. 2009. I got pregnant again in June 2009.
My doctor said i was "kinda" high risk. But never told me for sure.
She said I could have a Uterine rupture. Ok, Now, When i found out i was pregnant i didnt have symptoms yet, or missed my period yet. I was sitting down one day, and my previous c-section scar started to hurt.
I started to have sharp pains, they were light though. I never had problems whith my scar after it healed. It took me almost 9 weeks to heal from my previous. I was also in the hospital for 8 days from a alias. So, when the sharp light pain started i was like what could be causing this? Than i took a pregnancy test. I know at my 6 week check up the doctor told me to wait 18 months. Well, I had a schedualed pap in july, so i waited for that appointment no point in making two different appointments. So, I told her i was pregnant and she took another test and of course it was positive. So,
I started my prenatal care. On my second visit, I told the doctor that the sharp pains is gradually getting a little more painful. She told me it was probably adhesions and not to worry, i'd have some discomfort. On my third prenatal visit, I told her again, it's hapening more frequent with the sharp pains, now it's radiating across my insicion, and i tried to describe this to her, and sometimes the sharp pain is hurts and it actually makes me stop in in dead tracks...and i wait for the sharp pain to subside and so forth. but now it's getting worse, and it's happening more and more through out the day, at the begining, it was light, and only happened once in awhile, now that im 17 weeks it's happening ALOT through the day and the pain is more painful than before. It's more of a sharper pain and
it varies on the location of the scar. She told me that she think's it's kidney stones, and to drink alot of water to pass it. So i have been drinking alot of water, for the past month, and still nothing has changed. I KNOW she is wrong I can sense it. I just "know". My bf had alot of kidney stone problems his were recurring, and he had to have a few surgeries to remove them. I told him what i was experiencing and he said that doesnt sound like it at all...and i totally agreed. So now i'm worried that this could be a early warning sign that something is wrong. Oh, and when i was pregnant with my first daughter, i felt her moving around by now....and i dont feel this one at ALL...I still have my pregnancy symtoms. Also, i've only gained 1lbs. so far. Not saying that has anything to do with it, but just giving some more info on my situation. I have a ultrasound coming up soon, the second week of november, should i mention this to the ultrasound tech? and see if they can see antyhing? I know that when i was healing from my first one,
i went ot the ER because i had seroma, and they did a ultrasound on my scar tissue, and it was a totally different kind of Ultrasound. So i dont know if the ultrasound tech will be able to see the scar tissue or not. Should I get a second opinion? because i'm really really worried....I really dont want to end up in a bad situation if it can be prevented. But this doctor doesnt seem worried about it, and i need reassurance, and not just blown off.
She hasnt even done any tests on me, to even see if it's kidney stones or adhesions...all the reasons she told me, she hasnt even looked into.
and that really bothers me, because the like the said the pain seems to be gradually getting worse. Should i worry, if the doc isnt worried?
should i gets a second opionon? I really dont know what to do..I would like some advise.

I know my uterus hasnt ruptured.
I am worried it could. I dont know how worried I should be with this pain.
Everyone i talked to with previous c-section, dont experience this. I just want the doctor to aswer my questions instead of beating around the bush,
If there is something wrong i want to catch it before it turns ugly later on....
