Have any of you had an ultrasound of your unborn that had a short femur bone?

My ultrasound showed a short femur bone for the baby, which can be a soft marker of Down's Syndrome. However, it is the only thing they can see. It is only "one week" less in age than the rest of the baby's bones. Have any of you had this show up and then delivered a perfectly healthy baby?
----------

I didn't have the short femur bone, no. I did have the soft marker of the calcium spot on the left heart valve. That was scary. I did the triple screen and it came back negative. I have a perfect, nornal baby

The docs told me if there is only ONE soft marker, you are pretty safe. If you need to know, get the blood work done. It is not hugely accurate though. A negative is almost 100%, but a positive is only like 60% guaranteed.

I wouldn't worry about it.  (+ info)

Does ANYBODY have any info on Thoracic Outlet Syndrome? Specifically 1st rib resection?

My friend has this, had his rib removed a year ago, and is now in constant pain. His local doctor here doesn't really have much experience with this, and his surgeon (out of state) pretty much told him that his case wasn't severe enough to do anything more (which boggles me, because if you're suffering, then it should be cause for concern) It's just frustrating, I can't seem to find any information that is helpful...
----------

This is why chiropractors do everything possible to avoid surgery - it doesn't always work as advertised and can often make people much worse!
And a chiropractor is about the only person who can help him at this point - they have caused a trapped nerve with their surgery!
Get one off an insurance list near you, and they will give him a discount if he's not insured.
It takes about 8-12 times to make a big difference but it WILL help.  (+ info)

Can a CT scan or MRI confirm slipping rib syndrome?

A stationary CT or MRI is unlikely to confirm the diagnosis. A more meaningful imaging is either a motion MRI or motion xray where you bent forward, backwards, and sideways. This will demonstrate whether your ribs are moving properly or not.  (+ info)

Is 'short man syndrome' actually real?

I think so. My now ex is shorter than me and has serious problems. BIG chip on his shoulder.

Do you think that shorter men have this complex and are short men in denial about it?
Actually I don't laugh about his shortness - I'm angry that he's got a seriously bad attitude and I think he needs to get the fluck over his shortness, and not take it out on me!!

There's an old Chinese proverb that explains this exactly.

"Confucius he say: Beware small man. Brain too near a r sehole".  (+ info)

short term memory on asperger's syndrome?

This may seem like a stupid question, but can people with aspergers syndrome experience short term memory?
----------

Well maybe you say it is a stupid question, but I say it is an unclear question! Maybe some more info/clarification would help.

Anyway given what I have here, the answer is YES, and I have Asperger's syndrome.

The memory issues I have*** are that I am good at remembering numbers better than names and faces, which as you can find out about for us this is a source of many problems. (Not the numbers bit!)

Now what was the question again??? (Only joking!)  (+ info)

"short gut syndrome" is there any specialty hospital for its treatment in the world?

With no hesitation, I suggest the Mayo clinic. Some people I know went there to get treated and they did thingsthere that doctors here never heard of.  (+ info)

Can you have Marfan's syndrome and not have heart problems?

I suspected that my 15 year old daughter could possibly have Marfan's syndrome and now her doctor (family doctor) has ordered some tests. So far she has these characteristics: protruding collarbone, hyperflexibility, near-sightedness, crowded teeth/overbite (corrected by braces), increased arm span vs. height, thin long limbs, etc., although she is short. She was also just found to have mild scoliosis. She is at 20, which is the cutoff for Marfan's.

They did an echocardiogram a few days ago and I am waiting for the results. If it turns out that the echocardiogram is ok do you think I need to pursue this anymore or would it be unlikely that she has Marfans syndrome? We've been given the phone number for a geneticist but hesitate to go there until we have determined whether or not she has any heart or eye defects. Apparently the geneticist is not covered by insurance.
----------

Yes. A person can have Marfan's and not show any cardiac involvement. And it is always a good idea to pursue it if you suspect it. I can tell you from experience. I had no cardiac involvement until I was in my 30's. And at 54 I just started getting some minor eye problems. I have very minor scoliosis. I would like to discuss this more with you and would appreciate it if you contacted me. I am "owner" of an on-line Marfan support group called Marfan Connection and am an active member in another on-line support group called Marfans Support and Chat and would really like to have a real on-line conversation between myself and the moderator of that group. Neither of us has children, but many in our groups do. And it may serve you well to contact the National Marfan Foundation for some information.
Not all people with Marfans are tall! One of my Marf friends is 5'2" tall, and not thin. Most of the people I know with Marfans are not stereotypical!
