How much is a family block of ice cream?

I've found a hand-written recipe (old) that calls for a family block of vanilla ice cream. It's used in a Jelly Cream Ring. I'm also guessing that the recipe comes from the UK somewhere as it also calls for jelly squares. I haven't quite figures out which relative wrote it. Thanks for any help.
The recipe calls for 2 packets of jelly squares, 1 pint boiling water, 13 1/2 oz. tinof raspberries and a ring mould to hold 3 1/2 pints.
I would assume a "block" is referring to a quart. Or whatever a "quart" used to simulate back when it was written. Great find, by the way.  (+ info)

I just had stitches put in my leg today. I am having to have a drug test Monday. Will the nerve block meds they used (Marcaine) still be in my system?

Will it show up on a drug test?
It's possible but as long as you tell them what type of drug was used they should be able to state "If it comes back positive you will need proof" which you simply get that from the doctor and all should be fine.

I ordered carob chips and yogurt coating block in bulk from a website online, and it didn't include storing information. I have tried to contact the company but they have been responding for whatever reason.

You know, the company should have gotten back with you. That's just not good customer service.

Both items will keep in the pantry for up to 3 months. Just keep them in their original packaging, or if you use part of them, put the remaining portion into a zip lock bag and squeeze out as much air as you can, then store in the pantry.  (+ info)

How do you block specific websites from being accessed?

My husband and I were just talking about how our oldest will be a teen in a couple years and while we trust her, we still would like to block certain websites in case her friends or someone tried to access them from our computer. Just websites we really don't want our children on.
How do you block them? Do you have to buy a program or do can you do that from your computer settings?
Right now she is supervised when using it and our computer is in a common place but I would like to know how to do this in the near future.
If you have Windows Vista, there are built in parental controls that you can enable. To enable them, go to Control Panel-->Parental Controls and you'll see everything that can be setup for each user. I use this on my daughters' computer and it works very well. There are different levels of control that you can put in place and you also have the ability to enter specific sites to block or permit. If they attempt to go to a questionable site, a message comes up and the administrator (me) must enter a password to permit them to proceed to the site. It also allows you to setup time limits that they can be on the computer. A log of all sites visited is maintained and it can be viewed any time. The setups are all very straight forward and it's easy to use. You can also enable safe search on Google to keep sites with questionable content from appearing in searches. From the Google search page, click the Preferences link to the right of the search box. Scroll down and you'll see different settings for filtering adult content. Select the one you're most comfortable with, then scroll to the bottom of the screen and click the Save Preferences button. This will save the setting and adult content will be filtered and not presented when a Google search is done.

If you don't have Vista, you'll need to purchase a third party parental control software. I've tried a couple of them in the past but found that they tend to slow the system down for whatever reason. I'm sure that other people may have some good recommendations, though.  (+ info)

Um, so I really admire Massie Block's style. She's so mature and cool. I want to buy clothes like hers, though because I'm not old enough to earn money and buy high end designer stuff, I need some good stores to go to.
I already know that Macy's is really good, and some other large stores at the mall. However, I am open to suggestions. I am about to go school clothes shopping and get lots of clothes, so I need an answer please.

Wet Seal, XXI, JCPenny, and Target sell some cool, sophisticated stuff. I'm positive that people will tell you to go to stores like Delias, Charlotte Russe, Pac Sun, etc. but if you want more mature things, those aren't going to be very good. How do you use spirit gum to block out eyebrows?

I'm so frustrated. I'm trying to block out my eyebrows and have tried spirit gum, moustache wax and sealer but I don't know if I have the right wax or sealer. It's not turning out smooth and looks like hell. Anyone have any suggestions?

How long do you have to grow a block fringe out to get a side fringe cut?

I have had a block fringe for the past 2 years, and I want to grow it out so I can get a longish side fringe cut. Does anyone know just how long it has to grow before this can happen? Like, do I have to grow it properly out to the length of the rest of my hair or just to my nose or something. Please help! I need a change...

I love watching the Food Network channel! I've noticed one thing that all those chefs have in common, is that they use a butcher block cutting board to do all their prep work with their meats and veggies.
What is safe to use to clean those to prevent salmonella?
A solid wooden chopping board is one of the most versatile, useful and attractive kitchen essentials.

While wooden boards were once considered less hygienic than plastic, recent studies at the University of California say otherwise. When bacteria colonies on washed marble, plastic and wood boards were measured and compared, wood won hands down. Good-quality wooden boards can last for decades and even be handed down through the generations.

Before its first use, wipe your new board all over with olive oil, and set aside until the oil soaks in. Prolonged immersion in water can lead to splitting, so never soak your board; the dishwasher is also a no-no. The best treatment is the simplest – just scrub with hot water and detergent and dry on the rack. If it becomes rough or splintered, scrub with steel wool or gently rub the board with fine sandpaper. Regular monthly oiling will keep it in top condition.
