There are several different skin problems, which are heriditary or have a genetic propensity. Psoriasis and eczema have a genetic propensity. Skin lesions which are heriditary include rare conditions like icthyosis and epidermolysis bullosa.  (+ info)

this is a skin related question. what is something that pops up like chicken pox but its not, it has a crusty thin white scab. when you scrap the top off it is red underneath? ointment is not helping.also this just came up after my husband's surgery.
This sounds exactly like what I have! And I do have Psoriasis. The ointment will not help. There is a special cream your doctor will need to prescribe if he truely does have psoriasis but it costs about $150 per tube (depending on strength and size of tube). Psoriasis is nothing to worry about though. I have read somewhere that it means the body's immune system is down and that for some reason it thinks the skin has had a wound and tries to heal the wound that was never even there.

What is the difference between viral and bacterial diseases?

Hey I have 2 questions:
1.is a virus a bacteria(or the other way around?)?Where do bacterias fit if they're not viruses and the other way around?
2.I'd also like to know the difference between viral and bacterial DISEASES,not between viruses and bacterias.I know you can cure bacterial diseases with antibiotics and you can't viral,but I wanna know the difference between the two.

Hi there. No, a virus is not a bacteria. Viruses are their own identity. They are infectious agents and are incapable of reproducing except by 'hijacking' a cell (such as a human cell) and utilising what they need from that cell to reproduce. Nasty, hey? You're right: because viruses aren't bacteria, they can't be treated with antibiotics. The symptoms of a viral infection depend on the particular virus. The rhinovirus - common cause of the common 'cold' - is exhibited through congestion (nose), sore throat, blocked-up head, cough, and so on. However, the influenza virus - what causes the 'flu' - can present with the above symptoms but aches and pains in the joints, some of the worst exhaustion you will ever experience and, the classic symptom, a fever (lots and lots of sweating).

Bacteria are capable of reproduction without outside influence (as opposed to viruses). Bacteria are responsible for wound infections such as 'golden staph' (or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), urinary tract infections (can be caused by a range of bacteria), and pneumonia (can be caused by several bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae).

I like to work on molecular bio field on skin diseases. I can get samples not a problem; but i have to prepare abstract and give my work plan, primers, probes etc. I dont know how to start, how to plan, etc. please need suggestions.
It sounds like you don't have a specific research goal, just a general field. Since research happens due to grant funding, you have to know the standard format used by the granting agency/group. I'm working with a doctoral candidate for put together a PAH research project to be funded by the EPA. So, the plan will be put in the format they use for environmental evaluations.

Check out the link below and that will give you some idea of funding opportunities and some idea as to format. Rather than trying to generate your own idea, perhaps start first with answering a question posed by one of the grants.

Probably not. We're getting better at discovering them though and calling them what they really are. Up until the 19th century for instance, just about everything was either the "rheumatiz" the "colic", or the rich mans disease, the Gout. Catch alls for hundreds of different ailments.  (+ info)

What are the diseases caused by chest pain due to viral infection?

I have a friend who has been suffering from chest pains for over three weeks. He's having difficulty breathing sometimes and he finds it hard to get put of bed in the morning. He still comes to school and seems fine but when I ask how is he, he says it's getting worse, especially during P.E. classes. He did see a doctor but she said it was merely a viral infection and prescribed antibiotics. He has been taking his medication but nothing seems to be working. Could it be something other than a viral infection? Please help......

Apparently I have had a viral infection but where the skin pealed away in patches I'm left with lots of very pale marks all over my skin...anyone know how long it'll take to fade? I started with the infection 4 weeks ago now, the red marks went away about a week ago??

i am doing a project on skin diseases but there are more than 80 and my project needs to be limited to at the most 40 pages. does anyone have a list by any chance on what are the 30 most common diseases. Please cooperate!
I can give you a list of 30 or more. But you can surely be able to write 40 pages using 5-10 different rashes. Most common: acne, seborrhea dermatitis, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, tinea infections (athletes foot, jock itch, toe/fingernail fungal infections), warts, dyshydrosis, dry skin, and diaper rash.  (+ info)
