So i went to the hospital and was diagnosed with a skull fracture and brain bleed from falling?

I'm still kind of worried because they sent me home after a few hours. I don't want anything bad to happen while I'm at home. Is there anything else I can do?

How much force do you need to exert on a human skull for it to fracture?

I'm talking about pushing on it, not hitting it with anything (I'm not sure it makes a difference, but I like to be precise). No, I'm not planning to murder anyone, I was just wondering about it today (I know, that's a strange thing to ask...).
I you have an answer, could you please give me a rough equivalent (like 'same thing as crushing a ping pong ball')
----------

The same pressure that a vice would exert. It would be hard to just push on it to fracture it. Fracturing the skull is usually caused by blunt trauma.  (+ info)

Can a skull become dented from trauma?

I know this is a weird question but I started wondering and now it's bothering me. If someone hit their head over and over again in the same place, would their skull be dented and their head deformed? Saw something like that in a movie and that's what got me wondering. Wouldn't the force needed to do such a thing just fracture or break it? What do you all think?

Skull fracture how do you know everything is ok?

My nine year old son fell and was diagnosed with a skull fracture and small bleed. We were sent to harborview medical center PICU. He was given 3 CT scans all came back the same with no change. It has been a week now and he is acting just fine. But how do I know everything is ok? How do I know there is nothing else going on inside I cant see? Can things go down hill? can the bleeding start again?
----------

I would recommend keeping an eye on him for the next week or so and if you notice any problems or if he complains of not feeling well, then you should definitely take him in for another assessment.

For now the doctors seem to think he's OK and I'm assuming he's out of the hospital...they wouldn't do that if they didn't think he'd be OK. Go with the doctor's judgement unless you think the doctor's completely wrong.

Because he's your son, it will be easy to think you need to do something more to be absolutely sure. Second guessing, where there's no symptom as evidence you need to second guess, won't lead you anywhere. You can easily worry yourself to death by thinking of "what if" scenarios.  (+ info)

my skull was fractured by a bat 7 months ago, how much longer should this take to heal?

i was hit in the temple. and yes, i was drunk. the brain damage wasnt too bad(as far as brain damage goes anyway) and im blessed to be here.
----------

Yes, you are blessed to still be here. I wish I could give you an answer, but I'm not certain even a doctor can give you an exact answer. The body is capable of healing, but some things may cause permanent damage. I'd say you are lucky if you're not experiencing seizures from the brain injury. You can help your healing along by eating well and getting enough sleep. My fingers are crossed for you to make a complete recovery.  (+ info)

If I fractured my skull 25 years ago can I safely fly in a plane?

Someone told me I would "pass out" if I went in a plane-(I have never flown anywhere)-is this true?
----------

A fracture that occured twenty five years ago would be sufficiently healed that it might even be difficult to detect on an X-ray. This would certainly not preclude traveling in a pressurized compartment in a commercial aircraft. You would not pass out.
The only people who should get physician approval for commercial airplane travel are:

1. Those with contagious illness which could spread to other
flyers through respiratory or other means
2. Those in an advanced state of pregnancy or with problem pregnancies.
3. Those with known unstable cardiac issues which could require treatment on a long flight which could be unavailable.
4. Those with active ear infections which are not yet resolved. The changes in air pressure will occasionally cause them pain on ascent and descent.

Enjoy your trip and best wishes.  (+ info)

Can you have a fractured skull and not know it?

Hi, I have heard that many people can fracture their skulls and not know anything about it? It made me wonder as I hit my head and cut it on the top of a car door about 4 years ago and I do have a depression in the top of my head where I hit it...but I presumed it was a scar...should I get it checked out?
----------

Hi, yes people can have fractures to the skull without realising it, the depression in your skull could be a fracture point and it is worth getting it looked at as it may be a weakness that could cause further damage if knocked again.  (+ info)

how is a depressed skull fracture treated?

is burr holing needed?

any special machines needed?

how is the depression elevated?

What does a skull fracture feel like?

I was running down the hallway and my cat tripped me up, I lost balance and slammed my forehead down on the steel door frame.
It's been 2 days, it's still sore when I touch it or crease my forehead, also when I sleep on it. I can't tell if I'm dizzy because of it, or just my usual iron deficiency.

My mother thinks I might of fractured it, but I'm not sure... Help?
----------

You may have bruised yourself but I would defiantly see a doctor! Head injuries are risky, and your mother may be right. Try putting some ice on because, if you did bruise yourself, it may help. Best of Luck!  (+ info)
