I think my little brother has Bruxism. His symptoms started about one and a half years ago. He grinds his teeth in is sleep, so hard you can hear it. Is it possible for him to have it? What do you do about Bruxism?
----------

Yes its absolutely possible. You should get him a mouthgaurd from the dentist ASAP. A dentist can help you with this problem whether it be help to train his mouth not to do that during his sleep or giving him something so that he doesnt damage his teeth.  (+ info)

I have bruxism but my mother refuses to do anything?

I grind my teeth when I sleep at night and sometimes I wake up because I can HEAR myself grinding my teeth. It gives me headaches too. What can I do now? I can't get a mouthguard or anything like that because my mother says its my fault I get this/
----------

Tell your mom to at least get you a mouthguard at Wal-mart / Target or something. This is not your FAULT you get this.... You are asleep when you do it... Good grief! You can really damage your teeth and cause more problems down the road if left untreated. How old are you?  (+ info)

Is there a way to stop bruxism?

My dentist told me a long time ago that I've been grinding my teeth in my sleep, so I got an expensive mouthguard to wear at night so my teeth won't be further damaged.

Lately I've been experiencing terrible headaches, pain in my jaw and tension into my neck which I assume is cause by the grinding. Tylenol doesn't touch the pain. Is there anything I can do for this?
----------

If the pain started with the nightguard, it's the nightguard stressing out your TMJ (tempero mandibular joint) and the related muscles. These muscles can go into spasm and the pain can affect your head, neck, shoulders and upper back. The nightguard may be too thick or not the right material for your situation. They are made out of hard, soft (flexible) or a combination of both materials. If your teeth and/ or jaw doesn't hurt in the morning when you first wake up (without wearing the mouthguard), you may not be bruxing at night. You might be doing it while you are awake. In that case the nightguard is worthless unless you wear it during the day hours. Stop wearing the nightguard for a couple of weeks. Use warm wet compresses on the painful muscle areas (never cold for this!!!). Take Advil for the pain for a few days and go on a soft diet for few days as well. No big pieces of food. No bagels and don't stretch your mouth wide open to see if it's better. If all this makes things better the mystery is solved.
After the pain is gone go to your dentist and have the nightguard checked.  (+ info)

What are the long term effects of bruxism? Question about face shortening?

In this case, severe bruxism.

I'm wondering about TMJ and how jaw muscles are affected.

Also, I've heard bruxism can eventually cause the face to shorten. Is this just a result of the teeth becoming smaller, or are some other damages to facial structure being done?
----------

normally when the mouth is in rest position the teeth donot come in contact and the muscles of mastication are in the relaxed position but in case of bruxism the teeth are in close contact and the muscles are always taut and they become sore. due to bruxism the teeth wear off and the vertical length decreases which can cause problems like angular chelitis, pain in TMJ. for more information on bruxism you can visit the following link

Bruxism: Can a night guard change your biting position?

I have Bruxism, which means I grind my teeth at night. For this reason I have to wear a night guard. I've been wearing one for about two years, and my lower and upper teeth have been getting farther and farther apart. Some of them don't even touch anymore, which makes chewing down food difficult at times.

Is it worth it, wearing my night guard at the expense of having my lower and upper teeth separated?
----------

Talk to the dentist who made the nightguard for you. There may be a problem with the appliance's design. Your teeth should not move farther apart if you are only wearing it while you sleep. Also when you wear your guard all teeth opposing the guard should contact it if it is a full arch appliance. If it only covers a portion of all your teeth such as all the molars or all the anterior teeth on the particular jaw that you wear it on then those teeth that have not been in contact when you first started wearing the appliance are probably touching now when you wear it and this could be a major problem for you.   (+ info)

How to sleep when you took a nap earlier?

I like to sleep at 8pm - 11pm and wake up at 6am - 9am but one of those days I took a nap and messed up my sleeping schedule. Now I sleep around 4am - 6am and wake up around 1pm - 3pm. There are two solutions: Go to sleep now somehow or stay up until 3pm - 5pm which is very difficult. I also have a drivers appointment on monday at 10pm so I need to fix my sleeping schedule so any idea on how I can make myself sleep?

Does sleeping a 3 hour sleep during the day make my baby sleep less during the night?

My baby boy is 3 months old, and usually has 45 minute sleeps during the day. Lately, his evening nap has turned into 2.5-3 hours. Is this going to affect his nighttime sleep in anyway. He is a breastfed baby.We usually wake up 2-3 times a night.
----------

getting up 2-3 times in the night- totally normal, mine was to bed at 7, up at 12 then up at 3 until about 5 months, now he only gets up at 3 and I'm pretty excited about that! I know that breast milk is metabolized faster than formula so physiologically they NEED to eat through the night- not their fault- tiny tummies. Having said that I was given advice by a nurse not to let baby sleep more than 2 hours in the day to avoid day-night confusion. Good luck.  (+ info)

How can I get the sleep I need and feel refreshed in the morning?

I get 8-9 hours of sleep per night, and I usually sleep fairly soundly. I've tried drinking warm milk and listening to soft music before going to sleep, and I avoid caffeine and sweets before going to sleep. I know I do not suffer from any sleeping disorders and I am looking for a non-medicated way to feel refreshed in the morning after sleeping.
I want a NON-MEDICATED way to do this, please and thank you. :)
