I think I'm coming down with the flu virus, any remedies that migth stop or at least slow it down?

I work with people and I would truly hate to ask for some time off from work. What has work for you?
----------

Take Immune Alert -- an immune booster that works. Go to www.immunealert.com and have them send you a free sample asap.

In the mean time get a lot of rest, drink a lot of fluids, wash your hands frequently and don't touch your eyes, nose and mouth (this gets germs into your system).

Honestly, my family uses Immune Alert to stay healthy and we can't say enough about it. And besides, there is actual research that shows it works!  (+ info)

Whats a Mengovirus/mengosil virus, what diseases does it cause, what are its symptoms? easy2understand lang pls

I've heard that this virus infects infants in poor countries. I have read the following from a story - "Mengosil"- that it causes the head and brain to swell beyond control.
----------

I did a little digging online and the best I could figure out is that is a virus primarily transmitted by rodents. It causes fever.

I had a hard time researching it because most articles are in medical jargon. I'm inferring that it's not very common and is primarily in underdeveloped countries.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Is HIV a "slow virus"?

A slow virus is a virus etiologically associated with a disease having a long incubation period of months to years with a gradual onset frequently terminating in severe illness and/or death.
----------

as I know, yes. because we know Slow Virus Diseases as Diseases of viral origin, characterized by incubation periods of months to years, insidious onset of clinical manifestations, and protracted clinical course. Though the disease process is protracted, viral multiplication may not be unusually slow. Conventional viruses produce slow virus diseases such as SUBACUTE SCLEROSING PANENCEPHALITIS, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (LEUKOENCEPHALOPATHY, PROGRESSIVE MULTIFOCAL), and AIDS. Diseases produced by unconventional agents were originally considered part of this group. They are now called PRION DISEASES.  (+ info)

Did scientist take monkey blood (with the aids virus in it and give to people to prevent other diseases ?

Its a blood borne pathogen. A monkey bite or contact with monkey blood would have done the job.

As for why it wasn't an issue up until the 1980's, viruses mutate and evolve just like all other living things. It happened to mutate into something transmissible and deadly to humans.

Same reason you need new flu vaccines all the time. The viruses change.  (+ info)

Certain Diseases/Virus'/Bacteria Kill Cancer?

I've recently learned that certain diseases and bacteria and eat cancer cells and tumors. Why don't docters look into that? Not to experiment on humans, but to give human cancer cells to an animal, and test different diseases on them to determine what diseases kill what cancer. and PETA people, don't say that is cruel, that would be lets say a thousand lab-bred bunnies, to save millions, maybe billions of people to come.

Can disease-causing bacteria/virus travel from apartment to apartment?

We were recently reprimanded because someone complained that smoke from our cigarettes is bothering other people in our complex because our bathrooms are "connected" through our exhaust bathroom fans. If this is true, are we at risk of contamination? If smoke can travel this way, can any bacteria or virus travel the same way, possibly infecting us with flu, chicken pox, meningitis, TB and other airborne diseases?
----------

Any airborne disease could travel that way, but most of the ones you've listed, except for TB, require contact, almost always by hand to mouth or eyes.  (+ info)

Does anyone know how many people in Africa are infected with the HIV/AIDS Virus?

And, has anyone figured out any way in which to slow the progress of this disease down or eliminate it from new born babies in Africa?

Thank you in advance for your answers!
----------

South Africa is currently experiencing one of the most severe AIDS epidemics in the world. By the end of 2005, there were five and a half million people living with HIV in South Africa, and almost 1,000 AIDS deaths occurring every day.1

I am looking for an article "the slow growing virus. Time-Life publication?

The article is from about the late 70's. It is about the sterilness we in the civilized world have created in comparison to the tribes of the Amazon and unsanitary areas. The article was no doubt in a special issue or book from Time-Life.

What is the difference between viral and bacterial diseases?

Hey I have 2 questions:
1.is a virus a bacteria(or the other way around?)?Where do bacterias fit if they're not viruses and the other way around?
2.I'd also like to know the difference between viral and bacterial DISEASES,not between viruses and bacterias.I know you can cure bacterial diseases with antibiotics and you can't viral, but I wanna know the difference between the two.

Hopefully you'll be able to help, thank you very much!
----------

Hi there. No, a virus is not a bacteria. Viruses are their own identity. They are infectious agents and are incapable of reproducing except by 'hijacking' a cell (such as a human cell) and utilising what they need from that cell to reproduce. Nasty, hey? You're right: because viruses aren't bacteria, they can't be treated with antibiotics. The symptoms of a viral infection depend on the particular virus. The rhinovirus - common cause of the common 'cold' - is exhibited through congestion (nose), sore throat, blocked-up head, cough, and so on. However, the influenza virus - what causes the 'flu' - can present with the above symptoms but aches and pains in the joints, some of the worst exhaustion you will ever experience and, the classic symptom, a fever (lots and lots of sweating).

Bacteria are capable of reproduction without outside influence (as opposed to viruses). Bacteria are responsible for wound infections such as 'golden staph' (or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), urinary tract infections (can be caused by a range of bacteria), and pneumonia (can be caused by several bacteria, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae).

Viruses and bacteria can be rather confusing. Hope that helps somewhat. =)  (+ info)
