Would You massage someone with Spondylolysis ?

Sorry I mean Spondylosis!
----------

I think if you are certified and well-experienced in massage you may find there are techniques that you could use that would be stress-reducing, soothing, and very gentle.

If you are not certified and experienced, I would concentrate on touch that is more passive, like running your fingers lightly over the skin, lightly move around their hair and tickle the scalp, and possibly use a (clean) feather duster or a very soft paint brush to stroke the skin towards the heart. These are extremely effective techniques for reducing stress and activating good sensory experience, but start with a couple minutes of firmly touching the skin with your hand as otherwise it may be too tickly.

Good luck :)  (+ info)

does anyone have Spondylolysis or spondylolisthesis - how do you deal with the pain?

**Treatment of spondylolysis and spondylolisthesis is controversial and should be managed by an orthopedic specialist.**

Therapeutic modalities include rest and lumbar bracing to prevent hyperextension (excessive stretching of the back).

Surgical fusion is indicated for intractable pain.

pars interarticularis? spondylolysis?

I have spondylolysis. It's a crack on your pars interarticularis. Right now i have a back brace on but i feel like its not working, and im having a really sharp pain right now when i have the back brace on. I was wondering if i had surgery would i be stuck in a chair my whole life or would i recover fine?

as a nurse that worked with spinal cord and head injuries i would say so much is being done, strides are being made and i cannot tell you what to do...only what i would do and i would risk it. I do not know where you live or what insurance you have but being all hopped up and dull reactions from pain medications is not the way to go...be reassessed and get the best doctor you can find, my husband had spinal surgery because of crushed discs pressing in on the nerves and has no ill effects now after a discectomy. i would go for it to be out of the pain that keeps you miserable and as you get older it gets worse

In the orthopedic book I have, it states that "children younger than age 5 rarely present with spondylolysis, and severe spondyloisthesis is equally rare. The period of most rapid slipping is between ages 10 and 15. It is 2x as common in girls than boys. " It goes on to talk about what can be causes, stating things such as lumbosacral angle, ligamentous laxity, previous pregnancy, and hormonal factors, but it doesn't say anything about it being passed from one generation to the next.

Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Help, spondylolysis, can it be healed?

Hi I have Spondylolysis, I have known about it for about 5 months now. I recieved it from lifting heavy objects at my work and getting a stress fracture. I had bad back pain and went in and learned of my condition when I got an x-ray. Now I can't find an answer to a simple question. Can this condition be cured? Can I heal my back so I can do high impact exercises again and not have to worry about getting a crooked, painful, spine? If so, How?
----------

I had it and continue to have it after over ten years. It never healed on its one despite the brace (doctors orders). If you find any treatments, I'd like to know! Mine doesn't hurt chronically only when I stand for more than 30 minutes at once.   (+ info)

Spondylolysis & Yoga?

I have Spondylolysis and suffer from sever lower back pain. What is the best yogic posture for Spondylolysis.,

Thanks :)
----------

It's mostly what you should avoid rather than what you should do...most people with spodylolysis should avoid the cobra postion to prevent it from progressing to spondylolisthesis...however, YOUR IMMEDIATE symptomatic response is the most important. If this postion RELIEVES your symptoms (especially if you have leg symptoms), it is safe to do so....if any position immediately aggrevates (and it stays worse even after you stop doing it) then you should avoid that position. Some positions may be painful during the movement, but if it does not remain so upon stopping the position, it is usually safe for you to continue to do so. I always follow the rule of "not worse"...positions that do not leave you feeling worse immediately AFTER the position are generally safe.  (+ info)
