submandibular gland???

I have a lump in my neck that I know is not a lymph. I am not a Dr but I have done ALOT of research on the web and I think that I may have a problem with my submandibular gland. It is little swollen but when I eat it will get bigger. About the size of a grape. No heatlh insurance until next month, just wondering if anyone has had any issues with this and how worried should I really be. From what I can read, most likely not cancer as I don't have any symptoms associated with Lymphoma or Saliary Gland cancer. Might be a stone or tumor. And yes, I will see a Dr when insurance is available.
I should also maybe mention that I have had a crown put in a couple months back on the lower right molar.
One day I thought I might be coming down with something so I checked my glands to see if my lymph nodes were swollen.

I felt two large lumps on either side of my neck and immediately thought I was dying.

I went to my primary care physician. I had no other symptoms of something wrong--my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no other swelling on my body.

He decided to send me for a CT of my head and a ultrasound of my thyroid. Those tests came back okay, cost me a TON OF MONEY and i still had troublesome lumps (both non-tender) in my neck.

My doctor referred me to a surgeon who said he needed a CT of the ACTUAL area that was swollen. My primary doctor had gotten images ABOVE the area and BELOW the area, but NOT the actual area (SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY FOR ME!). The surgeon said if the CT of my neck came back abnormal he would do a biopsy.

He called a few days later and said I just had salivary glands that were on the large size, but there wasn't anything abnormal about them. They're just..large. That was several (8?) years ago. I still check them from time to time to see if they've grown or have become tender, but they hasn't been any change.

I totally thought I was dying though, so I sympathize with any anxiety you might be feeling right now. I hope that everything comes out okay for you! :-)  (+ info)

I have a enlarged submandibular gland and they want to do an ultrasound, why?

My Submandibular gland has been enlarged for awhile. Antibiotics have been taken, nothing has changed. They say here isn't an infection (since the antibiotics didn't help), and last week we did a biopsy from the outside, and they said that looked alright. BUT now they are wanting to do an ultrasound while using a needle. What exactly are they looking for?? I am confused at what they think it might be.
It sounds like your doctor thinks the previous biopsy missed the suspicious tissue. He wants to be 100% sure that you do not have a malignancy, so an ultrasound guided biopsy will precisely target the suspicious tissue. Hopefully, he can rule out malignancy based upon the pathology results of the upcoming biopsy. Best wishes for a good outcome.  (+ info)

Submandibular gland area occasionally swells then reduces to slightly enlarged within hours. What could it be?

Had previous surgery for sinuses and ENT Doc said it is likely an area of fluid drainage that has scar tissue? This make sense, I don't get it.

Can a cancerous tumor shrink and well like this or does cancer ONLY grow without treatment? Can tumors shrink and swell within a day or hours like this?
It is probably a fluid cyst that swells and drains. Cancer wouldn't swell then drain. Cancers are solid masses of cells not fluids.  (+ info)

Can you pls describe how long is the scar and where is the scar? Can you also briefly describe the surgical approach. Thank you.
I had chronic sialadentitis and have had the bilateral gland removed recently. I was shocked that the scar is 22cm long! Just want to be sure that it is not medical negligent.
Several ways to do this. The scar or scars, (there could be two of them) is small and general underneath jaw and not very noticeable.

The ENT doctor want to = aspirate the gland and do a biopsy. Does this mecessarily mean that it is malignant.
No, he might just be looking to find out what the infection is and what is causing it.  (+ info)

I forgot to ask my ENT this today and was wondering if someone could help me out. I have been experiencing severe neck pain and migraines....could this be any relation to my gland and the stones? Any answers would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

YES.
Migraine headaches are frequently induced by "triggers".
Pain originating in your Wharton's duct or submaxillary parenchyme due to chronic sialolithiasis [OK so I'm showing off a little!] would feel like a crampy pain high in the side of your neck, jaw and mouth. It'd be a perfect trigger (in susceptible individuals) for a migraine attack. You have every reason to be optimistic about your prospects for fewer headaches after the site heals.

it is my 14 year old daughter, it has been there about 6 months and we are waiting on an appt. with a pediatric ear nose and throat guy
I dont know but my husband just had his submandibular glad out. He had 8 biopsies and it was in the last one they said that it was cancerous. Cancer in the submandibular glad is usually a secondary cancer and they have not found the primary one so far though his operation was in March last. I hope to God that whoever had it doesnt have the cancer. You must get in touch with a McMillan nurse and talk if over with her. Dont sit there worrying about things. My husbands operation was successful and he has now finished the treament.  (+ info)
