What does it means by "Persistent Ventricular Tachycardia"?

An abnormal ventricular rhythm is worse than an irregular atrial rhythm. Ventricular is the bottom half of the heart and atrial refers to the top. Yours is like it keeps coming, persistently. You must be under a doctors care and they may decide to plant a device called an implanted cardiac device or ICD. It will give your heart a shock if it stays in PVT for longer than so many seconds like 3 seconds. It will keep you from dying. My hubby has one and it has gone off many many times,I would have lost him yrs ago if not for this womderful device and wonderful cardiologists.  (+ info)

Can ventricular tachycardia come back?

My mom said I had VT when I was a baby but I was treated with meds. Could it come back? I notice when I drink a lot of coffee that my heartbeat feels irregular and beats fast and kind of flutters. Is that just normal or should I be worried?
btw I am 19 F 5'3 and 98 lbs
Do you think it would be bad to take the anti-depressant pristiq since it has stimulant effects?
----------

Now. The whole issue is being confused here. If you really had Ventricular Tachycardia(V-tach), it is a serious matter, coffee or no coffee. But if you are confusing it with Supraventricular Tachycardia(SVT), then it is the one that is connected to stimulants like coffee. Make sure which one you really had.

While you need not really worry about SVT which can be controlled with drugs, V-tach needs a defibrillator to save you if you get the attack.

Yes, whether it is V-tach or SVT, it can definitely come back. So get the whole issue cleared with your doctor.  (+ info)

how infrequent ventricular tachycardia can affect your health?

i have vt,as diagnosed recently so need assisstance.an urgent response will be appreciated.
----------

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a potentially dangerous heart rhythm. It should be recommended to you to have an AICD (Automatic Internal Cardiac Defibrillator) implanted in your chest to treat (by shocking) the VT if it goes on for too long. It's a pretty simple procedure and worth it cause it could save your life.  (+ info)

is ventricular tachycardia normal during extreme over-exertion?

if it happens only during extreme over-exertion and not during rest or regular exercise... is it normal?
wael g, do you know what ventricular tachycardia is?

Pulse rate do not exceed more than 80% of (220 -- your age) during the exercise.  (+ info)

Does this sound like supra ventricular tachycardia or ARVD?

Hey my name is Tim and I am a 17 yr old male. I am quite active and i skateboard and skimboard often along with playing basketball. I am 5’11 and weigh 147 so I am fit. I have had this problem with my heart since i was 7 years old (or at least i think i have a problem with my heart). What happens is occasionally, sometimes once or twice a year, i will be sprinting a short distance and not even be tired, like i would run 20 feet really fast. Then suddenly in the middle of my run i would get this feel like something was about to happen. All the sudden i would feel my breath shorten and my heart would be pounding uncontrollably. I would suddenly get lightheaded and feel like i had to sit. My breathing was weakened and it felt like i had a lump in my throat. Afterwards i would have pressure in my neck and i would have a tingling sensation in my fingers and sometimes feet. I would come on really fast and i wouldn’t be able to stop it and it only last like 2 to 3 minutes. Then i would feel normal again. When i say my heart would pound extremely fast, i mean it would be pounding out of my chest, not a normal beat that you get from running or exercising. Whats weird is when i was like 7 i had it happen to me like once and maybe once when i was 9 and so on. Its very rare and very unpredictable. But now since 2 months ago it has happened about 5 times over the past five months. I have been more active and skimboarding which requires a really quick sprint as fast as you can. Whats also weird is that it only happens when I exert myself. Never happened while sitting but i have gotten the feeling that it was about to happen while sitting before. Over the past two months i have also had chest pains. I am positive that its not me just being tired cause i will be running feeling fine and all the sudden out of nowhere BOOM it happens. I have been really stressing out about it over the past 2 months. I used to smoke cigs and weed for a year when i was 16 and i used to have a bunch of energy drinks. Ive quit smoking and caffeine for good. Ive asked my doctor and seen him about 5 times for it. He had an ecg done and said everything looked fine and now im wearing a heart monitor which is pointless because its so unpredictable unless i get lucky and capture and episode. If anyone has any ideas what this could be please tell me cause it has really been bothering me and i feel like i cant even exercise with out something bad happening and i love to skate and skimboard. -Timmy
----------

It could be SVT, but there are other things, also. The 24 hour (or 48, or 72) monitor that you are wearing is a good test. You also need an echo (Ultrasound) while exercising, called a stress echo. And I would ask to see an Electrophysiologist, a heart doctor that specializes in the Electrical impulses. It sounds as if you have a serious, real condition. Good for you for quiting the caffeine, dope and cigs. Good Luck!  (+ info)

How can you cure SVT ( supra-ventricular tachycardia) ?

I am 27 yo, last year I had the first episode of SVT, my heart rate jumped to 230/min. I had 3 episodes of SVT since last year. I am taking 1 Toprol XL ( 25 mg) / day. I just need to find out how can I cure this, what about a surgery ?
I am interested in the Radiofrequency ablation! How is it done, how long it takes to get my life back to normal ?
----------

I have that. My heart rate was at 250 bpm, and it happened to me about 5 different times. The doctors finally prescribed me atenolol, and it works great.

The doctor explained it to me like this. You were born with basically loose wires in your heart that give off electrical impulses which cause rapid heart beat. As far as surgery goes, there is a procedure where the insert a catheter into the vein in your leg, and direct it to your heart. They use an ultrasound to zap the electical impulses and loose wires. Sometimes this is successful. Sometimes the doctors miss some and have to go back in for more, and sometimes they zap your heart and you end up with a pacemaker for the rest of your life. That's why I chose to stick with taking a pill everyday.

The practices the other poeple desribed can be used to stop an episode, but it won't completely cure the issue.  (+ info)

Anyone else have ventricular tachycardia?

I don't know anyone else who has it. I am diagnosed with left idiopathic VT. I'm just wondering if I can talk to anyone else who has the same thing I do?
----------

Most idiopathic VT can be treated by medicines or catheter ablation  (+ info)

what is ventricular tachycardia?

I'd like to watch medical drama.
When I saw the drama, I heard ventricular tachycardia.
What is it and effect?????
----------

I tell you what exactly it is. "tachy -cardia" it means fast heart rate. now how fast? well if it is over 100beats/min then it is termed as tachycardia. now the term ventricular tachycardia can only be stated after looking through ECG. ECG can tell its origin, "tachycardia" is used when it is ventricular in origin.
now we come to effects most of the time when it is below 150 beats / min the patient is stable and when it is more then or equal to 150 patient shows signs and symptoms. they are. low mental status , chest pain , diaphoresis, and signs of cardiac ailments. when heart rate crosses 150/min then rhythm goes disorganised and can readily turn into arrhythemic that is an emergency . so my friend that is not medical drama... be careful if u see anyone in this situation call EMS..bye take care  (+ info)
