I think I have a small bunion on my big toe?

Are there any at home remedies to get rid of a small bunion? I know there is surgery, but I am a cheerleader and am competing now. So, I need to be able to walk on my foot for at least another month.
----------

There are many over-the-counter things that you can do to treat that. Dr. Scholl's makes a lot of different options for corns and bunions and warts. You can go to a local CVS or drugstore and look at the different options that Dr. Scholl's has. You can even ask the pharmacist which one would work best, but the package itself will tell you what it does.

They even make inserts you can put in your shoe for as long as you need to have walking and doing everything you need to do be more comfortable.

You can also take Tylenol or Advil to control the pain.  (+ info)

Who has had surgery to correct a bunion?

I have this huge grotesque bunion on my foot and it sticks out and gets red when I wear shoes. It is highly unattractive and overall embarassing! Who has corrected it through surgery? And how much did it cost? Did it work? Was it painful? Be as specific as possible.
----------

My cousin had one bunion fixed. It was pretty painful but she had no choice since she tried all other choices to make it better.

See a podiatrist (foot doctor) first . You may find some relief from a brace to try to realign the toe joint. Also cortisone shots and physical therapy may help. If after that you still have trouble then I am sure your doctor will tell you if surgery is right for you.  (+ info)

How do you get rid of a bunion?

My mom has one on her left feet. I feel really bad for her coz its really hurting her. What are u supposed to do with a bunion?
----------

Surgery is the only sure way to eliminate a bunion. Today with the modern methods used it is sooooooo much better than a few years ago! See a podiatrist and ask. The relief she'll get after the surgery heals will have her running around and jumping up and down again! She'll want to go out dancing! Hey, pain and discomfort causes grumpiness and ages a person... have it taken care of ASAP and tell her to stop suffering unnecessarily.  (+ info)

Has anyone every had foot surgery for bunion removal?

I think I might have to get surgery on my foot for a bunion I have. It's been bothering me almost everyday. Anyone ever got that kind of surgery? Is it true you can't be on yur feet for 2 weeks and full recovery is 6-8 weeks? Thanks!
----------

I had the surgery on both feet at once. And, recovery really wasn't that bad. You don't have to be totally off your feel for 2 weeks. However, the more you stay off your feet, the quicker and better you will heal. Full recovery did take almost 2 months. And, I still had to take it easy after that. Just be careful and follow the doctors orders exactly so that you can heal as quickly as possible. If you can, have someone at home to help you while you are recovering.  (+ info)

How does bunion surgery affect my dancing?

I am currently taking ballet, but every time I take a pointe class, my bunion ends up hurting, and sometimes swells up. I have had my bunions since I was born, and they do not seem to have gotten worse because of my pointe shoes. I am considering surgery. Could someone give me the details for bunion surgery? And if I do have bunion surgery, will I be able to dance on pointe (as well)?
And also--how long would it take for me to get back to dancing on pointe? How long would it take for me to get back to dancing as a whole (not on pointe)?
----------

Well, depending on how bad your bunion is depends on what procedure is needed. Basically, the first metatarsal has to be cut and moved over into a corrected position. Screws are then used to hold the bone in place.
Dancing on pointe is really bad for your feet. I dont let my patients go back on pointe for at least six months. But most do it within three months against my advice.

Hope this helps.  (+ info)

Can you walk after bunion surgery?

I have whats called a Tailor's bunion, that I think I would need to get removed via surgery. I want to know if you will need like a cast, crutches, wheelchair etc. after the surgery or can you walk around like normal? Also how bad is the pain after the procedure?
Thanks!

A friend had bunion surgery and was in a walking cast for three weeks. Her cast covered over her toes and the end was open. She did not mind it and the entire procedure was a success.  (+ info)

How long does it take to fully recover from a bunion surgery.?

I had my bunion surgery 25 days ago and my whole leg is hurting me and I can't move my big toe too much, it feels soo stiff. Can someone please tell me how long this pain will last. I am soo anxious and worried. I wish I would of never done this. This is making me soo miserable :-(
----------

Bunion surgery is a painful surgery. Your leg is probably hurting from guarding when you walk because of the pain in your foot. I would check with your surgeon and find out the recovery time. Everyone is different and healing time varies from person to person.  (+ info)

What is it like to have bunion surgery?

I am having bunion surgery on Friday and I am very nervous about it. Can someone tell me about there surgery and the recovery and if it is worth it.
----------

Bunion surgery is a very safe, very effective surgery when done properly. There are many different approaches for the surgery which all depend on the type of deformity that you specifically have.

Hopefully you are going to a podiatric physician, the experts in foot and ankle surgery.

Recovery is based on the specific type of procedure chosen by your doctor. But you will probably be off you feet completely for anywhere between a couple days to a few weeks. The pain will most likely be manageable the day of surgery with Tylenol with codeine. After you get clearance from your doctor you will be able to do all of your normal activities again, hopefully without foot pain.

Good luck.  (+ info)
