What tongue or taste bud disorders may alter the way water tastes to me?

It will be a week tomorrow. I have drank water for the past couple of years pretty much all the time: with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. I love(d) its pure taste and quenching attributes. Since last Friday, when I wake up in the morning to gog et some water it tastes fine for a second and then develops this strange aftertaste that I can't describe. It's not metallic, but unusual.

It always tastes like that to me now: tap water, spring water, fountain water, aquifer water. I have been drinking a lot of soda and Powerade to get my water requirements since water tastes so bad to me lately.

I noticed when brushing my teeth a few days ago that the right-side of my tongue had inflamed bumps and was ultra-sensitive and that on the top of my tongue in the very back, there are bumps and even what look like cuts, but I honestly have no idea how they got there or how long they have been there.

MY QUESTIONS:

1. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THIS MIGHT BE?

2. ARE THE TONGUE ISSUE AND MY POOR TASTE FOR WATER SOMEHOW RELATED OR CONNECTED?

3. HOW LONG DOES THIS GENERALLY LAST? IT WILL BE A WEEK TOMORROW AND IT'S REALLY BOTHERING ME.

I read it last night but can't remember it. No, it's not Porphyric Hemophilia or being a vampire. It might have the word "vampire" in it, but I can't remember.
It's classified as a paraphilia or sexual or mental fetish. And yes, it's called vampirisim. However, blood is a very nutritional item, and many animals are acutely attracted to it. I imagine that such an evolutionary holdover would not be unknown in humans either. I personally do not find the taste of blood (my own, that is, and not others) repugnant. However, I do not gain sexual arousal from the sight of it. Thanks to all my years of training, when I see blood, my first impulse is to apply pressure.  (+ info)

I have researched this problem of anosmia and discovered that the irreversible nerve damage resulting from head trauma is the worst scenario however, I did not experience this trauma and now seek other causes and corrections. Anyone have any suggestions or possible other causes and Tx of this disorder. I desperately want to taste and smell again!

People could taste the difference between the Oreos and Newman O's so I was wondering if people have tasted the difference in other foods. What would cause a taste in the mouth off and on like you have pepper on your tongue?

Taste is so bad as times that it makes you sick to your stomach at times. Taste comes and goes and usually last for about 2 weeks. Taste like pepper and this is odd but the tip of the tongue is basically where the taste is and it has a odd sensation. It is very hard to describe but very frustrating to deal with, and can't find anyone that can help with the problem not dentist or family doctor, but this can not be right it has to be something. Please if anyone can help please advise.

Probably not. Some antibiotics and drugs, such as those for high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney stones, or depression, can cause odd tastes. If you're not taking medications for conditions like these and if you haven't had a thorough general checkup recently, see your doctor to rule out any undiagnosed health problems. Sometimes the flu, heartburn, or very rarely, lead poisoning, can cause the odd taste.

If your doc finds nothing amiss, try your dentist. She'll look for gum disease and will probably check out any existing dental work; as fillings age, they can sometimes break down and alter taste. ... because i just tasted my first bag of "no trans fat" cool ranch doritos, and they seem to taste a bit lighter than the old ones. am i imagining this, or can you really taste the difference?

Why do sandwiches taste better when they are cut in half?

Have you noticed that any sandwich tastes better after it's been cut in half? It doesn't matter what type of sandwich, nor what type of bread. It tastes better when it's sliced in half, or even in quarters.
Could it be that we naturally need to have our food mangled, cut, and deformed in its presentation? Did our forebears prefer to eat a gazelle's leg after it was nicely cut off instead of just biting in? I think that it might have something to do with the shape of our teeth, and that our tongue likes to taste the salty and fat right away. I could be wrong though.

Does every one taste the same and just like different things or taste differently?

There are two possible ways it could go
1. We all taste the same thing and just like the way some foods taste.
2. When we taste, the taste could be different for each person. Cause when I taste some foods just cannot see how people like the taste of it.

What do you think? Does what I am saying make sense?
I mean regular people not sick people or so on.
its funny, i've always tried to figure this out....and i've come to my own conclusion of this:

Taste is different for all people.

plus if you take this into consideration: smell has a lot to do with the way something taste, correct? well if that's true, then people can smell certain things that other people can't. so, i would think taste is different....we certainly know people can smell something differently.

How does a professional coffee taste tester drink coffee for coffee brands?

Please no one-liners. How would you cleanse the taste of one coffee and taste another? Drinking a sip of water? Also what does a taste tester look for in a coffee taste and aroma?
The tasters are no different to tea/ wine/brandy tasters.
They do not drink they taste and spit it out.
They then rinse out their mouth with water ( usually) and this cleans the palette enough to taste the next sample.They look for taste (bitterness)aroma and colour and strength.
These guys noses and mouths are often highly insured in the millions.
We went to a cognac tasting and the taster had to remember last years taste so he could blend this years brandy to be 99% identical to last years.  (+ info)
