Why do drinks taste different in bottles of different material?

I was wondering why drinks, specifically sodas, taste different when they're in different kind of bottles. I always have thought they taste better in glass bottles than in aluminum or plastic, but I don't know why they taste different. Does some sort of reaction take place? Do some types of material let more oxygen into the mixture, or something like that?
----------

glass is a more stable substance there will be no chemical reaction with a substance & it does not bleed or exchange any of its particles with what it contains, aluminum makes a chemical reaction, & plastic can bleed or leech chemicals into what it contains, infact recently it was reported that some of the chemicals in plastic can be dangerous: http://www.thegreenguide.com/doc/114/bpa.

the only exception to glass is crystal, it has a high lead content.  (+ info)

How do you get the metal taste out of Mullet?

My boyfriend caught some mullet today and I have only had it once and it had a mettalic taste? Is it always like that or can you get that taste out of it? Because if not I prefer not to ever put it in my mouth again. I couldn't get rid of that taste it still haunts me. I love fish but I am very picky I prefer only to eat grouper , scamp or snapper. But I will try it again if I can get rid of that taste.
----------

If it tastes like metal, then the water the fish was in is probably polluted. I would get your b/f to do his fishing somewhere else.  (+ info)

Can you taste the difference between organic and regular food?

I appreciate the fact that food that is grown organically is better for the environment, and likely better for people; however, I have a hard time believing that there's a substantial difference in taste. Can you honestly taste a difference, and if you believe you can, are you sure it's not just psychological?
----------

If somebody thinks they can I'd sure like to see the published results of a double blind scientifically conducted test. I guess I'm saying I've worked with organic food for a long time and I don't believe there's a difference.

What do alcoholic mudslides taste like and best tasting alcohol drink?

What does a mudslide taste like?

Also, what is the best tasting alochol drink in your opinion?
----------

A mudslide tastes like a black russian with baileys. Actually thats what it is anyway. Its kinda chocolatey and coffee flavored. In that respect one of my favorite drinks is called a screaming orgasm.
recipe:
fill tall glass with ice then add
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz amaretto
1/2 oz kahlua
1/2 oz baileys
fill remainder of glass with milk and shake

It's a great drink and will forever change your desire for a mudslide :)

What is the difference between the taste of cooked foie gras and the taste of an ordinary cooked chicken liver?

I just want to know how foie gras and chicken liver taste different from each other. Is it only the fat content that makes foie gras unique to to ordinary chicken, duck or goose liver or foie gras has its unique flavor which you can't taste in chicken, goose or duck liver.

No hate comment pls. because I just want to make an alternative because I'm a vegetarian and I can't afford to buy one to taste.
----------

If you are trying to replicate the flavor of foie gras with vegetarian components, you will not succeed. Foie gras is the fattened liver of a duck or goose. It really tastes nothing like chicken liver, and is much lighter and creamier. My husband hates liver (chicken, calf, pork, etc.) but loves foie gras. I would compare it to a meaty butter. It is very high in fat, very rich.
If you are a vegetarian, it's going to be hard to describe the flavor to you because I truly can't think of any vegetable that it tastes like. Perhaps there's an obscure wild mushroom that carries some of the meaty flavors, but really -- it's sort of like asking, "What sort of meat could I use to replicate the flavor of carrots?"  (+ info)

How can something that smells bad taste good?

As you all probably know, the sense of smell and the sense of taste are connected to one another. If something smells really bad, it's usually not good to eat. Also, if you don't have a sense of smell, you probably can't taste much, either. That being said, though, there are some foods that are considered stinky and yet still appeal to some people. For example, Parmesan cheese smells like feet, yet it's great on pasta. And Limburger cheese is supposed to smell much worse, yet some people think it tastes good. How can something that smells bad taste good?
----------

Probably because your sense of taste is only effected by your sense of smell by about 45%. Besides, once the food is in the mouth (if you can get past the stinkiness of it), it usually tastes totally different.

Take wine for example. You smell one thing, but taste something entirely different. This is because while the two senses are bound, they're are not entirely dependent upon one another.

A rose smells wonderful, but frankly rose petals taste FUNKY.  (+ info)

What would taste similar to honey mustard and is vegan?

Before I went vegan, I always loved McDonalds honey mustard snack wraps. I got some chicken style seitan and was planning on wrapping it in a tortilla with lettuce to make something similar. The only thing I don't know what to do about is the honey mustard. I don't eat honey anymore, but I want something that taste similar or just as good. What could I put on it instead of honey mustard? r could I put anything in the mustard to make it taste similar?

Thanks =]
----------

Try making your own honey mustard, but instead of using honey, use agave nectar. Here's a recipe for honey mustard, never tried it though.  (+ info)

My mom has been growing peppers in her garden this year. They were jalapeƱos and Banana peppers. We've ate some but they don't taste good, they're just hot and taste like bell peppers. How do you find the taste of Chaasu Ramen?

I know that it is a Japanese food. It has crabs, and bamboo shoots(at first, I think that it was only a cucumber or any other common veggie, but until I had tasted it, it become a little bit sweet with an unidentifiable taste, so I preferred that it must be a bamboo shoot.) And if you had tasted that, how do you find the flavor? Is it good or bad?

your question if not very clear... but it's ok  (+ info)

How do you get bad taste out of your throat?

I recently had my wisdom teeth removed (thursday) and the antibiotic i have to take smells and tastes absolutely disgusting. I wouldn't complain about it though if the taste dissipated. It's been stuck in my throat for 4 days. It's not really my breath, but everything I eat tastes like it. I can't stand it. Please help!
----------

Listerine. Gargle and also brush your tongue a few times daily. Warm the Listerine or make sure it's not cold or cool so that you will not experience pain from your surgery. I had all four wisdom teeth removed and my jaw reset. I had the same issue and that's what the surgeon recommended. The bad taste and smell is the dried blood and pus that comes with the healing process. Hope it helps. Good Luck.  (+ info)
