Can Bilateral Optic Neuropathy really not be treated & if it's in 1 eye will it eventually move to the other?

My mom is 45 years old and has half the vision in her right eye blurred starting 18 months ago. She has been diagnosed with bilateral optic neuropathy but after much testing no cause has been found. Does this mean she will just have to live with thisand is there really no treatment? Does it also mean that the blurred vision will definitely move to the left eye?

Can't be of much help here, but try and post your question here:

http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Ophthalmology/wwwboard.html

It's answered by eye experts. Don't know if this particular forum is free of charge, but it was a couple of years ago. If it's free, you may need to keep trying to post since they would take a limited number of questions per day.

Hope this helps.  (+ info)

alternatives to vincristine in ALL. My daughter has ALL and has developed a sever polycranial neuropathy?

has anyone had experience with this? Obviously , we are in close contact with her MD but I was looking for other parents or ALL survivors. She is grade 3 neuropathy. Can no longer walk or sit up. I have great fear of continuation of therapy using vincristine.
----------

We usually defer the administration of Vincristine until all the signs of neuropathy have abated. Chemotherapy then proceeds as scheduled minus the Vincristine. I have just one question: Have you ruled out the possibility of CNS involvement by Leukemia?  (+ info)

Is homeopathy effective for neuropathy?

I am a therapist in alternative medicine and we have to go through many types of training. This is a group of diseases of peripheral nerves not associated with inflammation. They are classified as Parenchymal=several neurones are affected & Interstitial = a single neurone is affected.
The first is caused by nutritional deficiencies such as folic acid, vit B1, B2 B6 and B12. Diabetes.Toxic reactions,or infections.
The second type is caused by pressure applied to cranial nerves in cranial bone or compression of a nerve in a confined space caused by oedema. So if you find out what type your husband is causing his problem but if you want a personnel reply then e-mail me on [email protected]. There is not enough space to fully answer your question but there is always an answer.

Does anyone have neuropathy in their arm?

My neuroligist says the aching pain in my right arm is probably neuropathy. This was a month ago and I`ve been taking Neurontin 600 mg 3 times a day,Arthrotec 75 mg 2 times a day and Ultram ER 300mg 1 time a day and everyday my pain is getting worse.
Does anyone else have this problem? For how long? What helps with your pain? I`m a wreck because I can`t sleep or eat.
Please only helpful comments .
I just got over cancer surgery. I`m 57 years old.
They just did a CT and said the pain is not from previous cancer in my neck.

Yes, I have neuropathy in both hands/arms from nerve damage after years of carpal tunnel surgery. I'm surprised your doctor just diagnosed you with "neuropathy" (which just means you have a disease or abnormality of your nervous system, which is pretty darn vague) and sent you off with prescriptions for pain medication and nothing else. Did the doctor call it "idiopathic" (which means they don't know what the cause is)? If not, they ought to be finding out what is causing the neuropathy, as there may be other things that could help. Find a new doctor and keep trying -- you may also want to locate a pain specialist (your regular doctor can help you with this).

Acupuncture can also be very effective with nerve pain. It is also worth a try.  (+ info)

Has anyone tried the Neurogen product for diabetic neuropathy pain?

trying to find something that will easy my diabetic neuropathy pain. Has anyone tried this over the counter medication?
----------

No, but I've known people who have used the WSN Nerve Support Formula with a lot of success. It gives the body the nutrients it needs to repair the nerve damage which is what neuropathy is.
The nerves get damaged with high blood sugars.

You can read about it at www.realfoodnutrients.com/neu/home.htm

How can i best recover from a Tibial Plateau Fracture surgery?

I got the surgery recently and have started to go to therapy. I would like to know how to speed up my recovery; diet, workouts, anything is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

That's a bad break, and one of the breaks that can come with alot of complications. I can't really help you, but I can give you a website that can. When my son broke his femur I went on the site all the time for info. It's for people with broken legs, so there is always someone that has the same injury as yourself. You can ask questions or just browse the site.

Tibial fracture that extends from the plateau into the diaphysis?

Can anyone explain to me what a fracture of the right tibia bone would look like if there was a 4inch fracture beginning from the lateral surface of the tibial plateau and extending medially into the diaphysis of the tibia just below the tibial tuberosity. This fracture created a moderately displaced bone fragment.

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. This is on a case study for Anatomy and I am having a hard time determining exactly how this break would look, and I have to sketch it.

The link below has pictures and x-rays of such fractures. Maybe they will help.  (+ info)
