How do I even my skin tone? I had tinea versicolor for many years. Now that its gone my skin is still uneven.?

I recently went to the dermatologist to see if I still had tinea versicolor. They took a skin sample and diagnosed that I didn't have it anymore. He said that I have hyperpigmentation. He prescribed me some lightening cream but my condition is all over my chest, stomach and back. My skin tone is very blotchy. How can I get it back to normal?

Nofluzone worked for me but I had the Tinea still when I took it.It got rid of the rash and it did even the light spots.Hard to get it in US/Canada.Here is over the counter and usually that's all they give for Tinea

How do I prevent tinea versicolor from returning?

Last spring I experienced tinea versicolor for the 1st time on my upper arms, my doctor gave me oral nizerol pills and said it would go awayin time. It look about 6 month to almost completely vanish, just in time for summer thank god. Now that summer's over I notice on my one arm it's starting to return, how can I get rid of this /prevent it from getting worse before it's too late....any suggestions?
----------

Avoid applying oil or oily products to your skin or wearing tight, restrictive or nonventilated clothing. Sun exposure makes the fungal infection more apparent.

Good hygiene, including regular bathing with a mild soap and drying the skin well with a towel, can minimize tinea versicolor. Once the condition has been diagnosed, the individual can use antifungal soaps and other products as prescribed by the healthcare provider.

Preventative treatments include:
Selenium sulfide
Ketoconazole
Itraconazole  (+ info)

Is tinea versicolor really unattractive on girls?

I had tinea versicolor on my stomach and upper thighs last summer. And I was pretty positive that after a year it had gone away. I'm at the beach for two weeks and noticed it's coming back. It's really annoying and there are paler spots all over my stomach. Is a guy really turned off by this?

That all depends on the guy. I personally wouldn't care. No one is perfect.  (+ info)

I woke up with a knot near my splenius capitis and was wondering?

(No, I did not get hit in the head while I was sleeping). Could an inflamed splenius capitis cause a knot to form? It hurts to the touch and is causing a headache.
----------

Muscle spasms in the area are common. It can happen due to sleeping wrong, moving wrong (which sounds like it didn't happen or increased tension in the neck due to stress. The muscle spasm is often accompanied by tension headaches. Time should relieve the problem, but to help it on its way, you can do a few things.

1. Heating pad to relax the muscle. (You can use ice also if it works better for you, but I find that with this type of injury muscle responds better to heat when they are in spasm)
2. Get two tennis balls and put them inside of an old tube sock. Tie a knot so that they are held close together. Then put them behind your neck while lying on a somewhat firm surface. Relax. (If you ever feel any numbness/tingling or have any pain with this stop)
3. Therapeutic massage to the area. You will want to make sure you go to someone that knows what they are doing. A regular massage can be too much for the area right now.  (+ info)

What is the best way to treat tinea versicolor?

Answers based on experience only, please!
Thanks for the response, matador 89.
I'm looking for non-prescription solutions. I'm not sure which of the things you listed were prescription or not. Could you or anyone else clarify?

If anyone has non-prescription experience with treating tinea versicolor I would very much like to hear about your experiences overcoming it.

If tinea versicolor - pityriasis versicolor - is severe or doesn't respond to over-the-counter medicine, you may need a prescription-strength topical or oral medication. These medications for tinea versicolor treatment include – for topical use - Selenium sulfide (Selsun) 2.5 percent lotion. Ciclopirox (Loprox) cream, gel or lotion. Ketoconazole (Nizoral) cream or shampoo. For oral use - Ketoconazole (Nizoral) tablets. Itraconazole (Sporanox) capsules. Fluconazole (Diflucan) tablets. Unfortunately, even after the treatment has been successful, the skin colour may remain uneven for several weeks. Also, the infection may return in humid and warm weather. In rare cases, you may need to take a medication once or twice a month to prevent the infection from recurring. The information provided here should not be used during any medical emergency or for the diagnosis or treatment of any medical condition. A licensed physician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment of any and all medical conditions.

Getting rid of persistent tinea versicolor?

I've tried selsun blue on it (what my doctor recommended) and even using it twice a day for a few weeks would lessen the symptoms but not make it go away. I've now had it for about 2 years without being able to keep it gone. Wondering if there are any other safe remedies for this? I'm in my third trimester of pregnancy so I can't be taking pills or anything. Any suggestions would be great, otherwise I'll just wait it out and try again with some medicine after the pregnancy.
----------

I would be careful with using the Selsun Blue, even though your doctor recommended it. I am almost 7 weeks pregnant with my second child and broke out with a rash. I went to the doctor today to be prescribed Selenium Sulfide, which is the active ingredient in Selsun Blue. The warning on the label states:

Selenium Sulfide Lotion should not be used for the treatment of tinea versicolor in pregnant women.

Also note that this is a 2.5% solution and typical anti-dandruff hair products are 1%.

Anyone have Tinea Versicolor and successfully get rid of it?

I have had tinea versicolor for 2 years now and I finally treated it by rubbing foot cream all over it for 10 days. The itching and redness is gone, but its still lighter than the rest of my skin. Its really embarrassing and I dont know how I can go through ANOTHER summer like this. Anyone have any advice or maybe do you think I finally got rid of it??
----------

Yes I do. Have your Dr proscribe Clotrimazole 1% per 10ml I had it for a long time and this worked.
Good luck...  (+ info)
