Can fissured tongue syndrome be treated?

My wife's tongue is cracked all over ,apparently this is called "fissured tongue" syndrome.We wish to know if there is any cure,treatment or medicine for this defect.Appreciate your help in advance.
There is no specific treatment for fissured tongue syndrome. Patients are asked to lightly brush the top of the fissure and keep it clean.

It sounds like dehydration. Furrows on the tongue is a sign of dehydration along with dry mucous membrane. It ca also be a vitamin B deficiency, red beefy tongue.

I have what is known as a Fissured Tongue (also known as Scrotal Tongue or Lingua Plicata). Does anyone know if piercing a Fissured Tongue causes any problems?

Neither of my parents had a Fissured Tongue but my grandfather did. I've read that it is hereditary. I've never had any problems with it.

tongue piercing is questionable even in a non fissured tongue. The infection rate is high and tooth breakage is possible. Also, try to imagine what kind of rep a pierced tongue gives a person. I am not against piercings or tattoos but I do think that the body art should be kept in places that can be covered by a normal dress or short sleeved shirt. This way when it becomes necessary to be conservative-you can. My son in law has a full sleeve tattoo and although he loves it, he has times when he thinks it is inappropriate and it is difficult to cover. I'd skip the piercing and get your hair done -or nails or whatever!!!!!  (+ info)

A fissured Tongue from eating too much sour things?

Well I ate a bunch of sour gum and my tongue started to hurt so I wanted to brush my teeth. I used Arm and Hammer toothpaste and as soon as that darn toothpaste touched my tongue it created two cracks on my tongue. Questions is do you think it will heal and how can I get the "burnt tongue" sensation to minimize?
your gonna have to wait it out. that happens to me all the time, but you just eat normal food if that makes sense. just dont eat anything sour for a while and you should be all set  (+ info)
