What kind of doctors for disease/infection on tongue?

I found brown whitish spots on my tongue as if my tongue is in process being wearing out. It is kind of nasty to look at, but what kind of doctor should I see to get my tongue checked?

Will ENT doctor do?
----------

Just start with a plain old general practitioner. It may just be a simple infection of some sort- something like thrush, easily treated with an antibiotic. If the GP sees something he thinks is odd, he can always refer you to the ENT. That way, you don't pay a specialist for something simple, and save money at the ENT by having already eliminated the easy stuff.  (+ info)

Thrush, also known as candidiasis, is a yeast infection that occurs most commonly in the mouth. It is caused by a fungus called Candida albicans ("candida") that occurs naturally in the intestines, vagina and even the skin. The bacteria that reside in the body's moist environments usually keep candida under control.

Candida is often called an "opportunistic" microorganism. This means that it doesn't ordinarily cause disease, but under special conditions, such as a weakened immune system, it becomes pathogenic—capable of causing disease.

Thrush symptoms most often appear in the mouth and sometimes in the throat. Candidiasis causes often painful, slightly raised ulcers or skin lesions that usually look creamy white. Curd-like, bumpy white "cottage cheese" in the mouth and a dry mouth are common oral thrush symptoms.

Candidiasis in the mouth may spread to the esophagus, making swallowing painful or difficult.  (+ info)

What do I do about my baby chewing on her tongue?

My 14 month old daughter just recently started having these red bumps and sores show up on either side of her tongue. She's teething so I'm pretty sure she's biting here tongue. My 3-year old had problems with Hand, foot, and mouth disease when she was younger, so I was considering that also, however my little one isn't showing any other symptoms. I'm just afraid that if she's biting her tongue, she may hurt herself. What should I do?
----------

i'm sure it's normal for her to chew on her tongue as she is teething...but for your other concerns I would contact your childs pediatrician for better answers, that is your best bet. good luck =)  (+ info)

My tongue frenulum and the nearby saliva glands are swollen. What is going on?

My tongue frenulum and the nearby saliva glands are swollen. They've been getting progressively worse for the past two days. I'm worried I might have a virus of some sort because I engaged in "intimate" oral activities the night before I started being sore. I'm not sure though. I also have a tongue-piercing but the swelling doesnt seem to stem from the piercing.

Please help! It hurts when I move my tongue or talk; like a shooting pain. Please don't let it be a flesh-eating disease!

You need to consult a physician.  (+ info)
