Can one distinguish the cause of tooth-erosion just by observing the teeth?

There seem to be many possible causes for tooth-erosion. Is it possible to pinpoint the cause according to the teeth appearance?
----------

I don't believe so. If you are talking about the loss of enamel, dentists don't seem to be able to know what caused it just by looking at it. At least my dentist couldn't. I have extensive loss of enamel and my teeth are kind of grayish and some parts look a bit see-through, if you know what I mean. The dentist took a look at it and asked if I drank large amounts of orange juice, which I don't. He said the citric acid could have caused it. They also asked me if I was bulimic since stomach acid can cause the erosion too.

In my case I used to drink massive amounts of Pepsi. It may also be genetic since both my parents have the same problem with their teeth.  (+ info)

Does anyone know of options to correct tooth erosion ?

I have severe tooth erosion on my two front teeth. Does anyone know what options I have to correct it? A ball park of how much it will cost without insurance? And Is their anything I can do to stop it from progressing?
----------

Yes stop brushing so vigourously and if you eat acidic foods then stop that also, eg lemons oranges vinegar etc or if you work in an environment that has acid eg spraypainting the wear a mask.

It must be filled and that costs 150 to 200 dollars per tooth  (+ info)

Is it wise to use an electric toothbrush if I have erosion on every tooth?

i was thinking about getting an oral-b or sonicare electric toothbrush, but i'm not sure if i should because i have erosion on every tooth. my teeth are sensitive from the erosion, but more so from the gum recession i have. what should i do?
----------

FYI, both of these models have SOFT bristles which is very good and should be the ONLY kind used.
Using an electric brush to gently brush won't harm your teeth.
To treat the abrasion/attrition/erosion a dentist must be seen.  (+ info)

it is very crooked so could it just be the tooth moving?

How do you personally avoid tooth erosion on your child?

At night, my 8 month old son wake up for his bottle (formula) once a night. After he drinks it, he passes right out. Do you wipe his gums? If I do that then he will wake up! Do you give him something besides formula at night? Water? Should you wipe their gums off no matter what time of the day? He doesn't have any teeth yet but I think he might be teething because he's drooling a lot.
----------

I would take a q-tip dipped in water and run it over their gums, if they would let me or right before they fell asleep I gave them a couple quick sips of just luke warm water to rise their mouth out.l  (+ info)

Is it possible to reverse tooth erosion?

Yeah, that's basically my question; is there any way to actually reverse erosion? Or would one have to go see a dentist and have him/her cap one's teeth (or something like that)?
----------

Even with all the tissue engineering research going on today, regrowing enamel is not possible - visit a prosthodontist near you. They can apply porcelain veneer over your teeth and make it appear better. Also you need to find out why your teeth are eroding and get that to stop first.  (+ info)

what would you recommend for severe tooth erosion?

help! i have been severely bulimic and am desperately struggling to recover, both emotionally and physically.
i am making good progress now (finally!) but my teeth are eroded which has left my confidence shattered. the enamel has eroded and worn them down alot, to the point where it is very visible, and i was wondering what possible solutions there is, and the life expectancy/cost of the solutions! (if there are any :( )
any help is very much appreciated.
