How long is the infant tooth eruption process?

My child just started showing signs of teething. She is about 5 months old.

Approximately how long before we see a tooth erupt?
(to clarify, by signs I mean the pain signs. we've had drool and chomping on stuff for awhile, but only in the last day has she been showing indications of it actually hurting)

How can I speed up tooth eruption?

I had 4 teeth pulled (my left canine, a back right molar, and the third from left and right from middle of bottom set) and the molar grew in leaving 3 gaps. But anyways I had them pulled so they could put my braces on, so the longer they take to come in the longer I wear braces. I am 15, too old to wear braces and too old to have teeth coming in. So how can I speed up this process (or at least not slow it down) if possible?
----------

chewing hard foods (raw carrots, apple) is said to encourage the tooth to erupt by softening the gums. that's about all you can do.   (+ info)

How long does tooth eruption take?

I'm in the alleged final stage of my braces. My dentist suggested that my lower eyeteeth - or canines - be "raised" up a bit since they've gotten worn down (because I'm old). He said that it wouldn't take long, perhaps a week or so.

It's been a week since the adjustment was made. I guess it was done by adjusting the wire. But I don't see any difference and I can't feel anything. I would have expected them to hurt.

Shouldn't I be seeing some change by now? Or feeling something?

Hi there,

From what I remember from the time I assisted my dad, ( unofficially- I was not a licensed D.A.), who was a dentist, these "eruptions" are very sublte and perhaps they need to be measured by a very sensitive instrument which your dentist should have.

I wouldn't expect that the teeth would make a dramatic change, but would be very small, therefore not like cutting new teeth, which you experienced when you were younger, or when your wisdom teeth erupted.

I did find some information about tooth eruption from the ADA, which may shed some light on your question. But if it were me, I would definitely ask your dentist to make the right measurements to assure that the procedure is successful.

Hope this helps, and good luck on getting those teeth to grow the way the dentist envisioned.

Can braces fix Ectopic eruption ?

Just wondering because I Have a tooth Growing out of my gums on the top of another one.
----------

Yes. Or it may simply need to be extracted.  (+ info)

can you still have a wisdom tooth eruption when your 25 years old or older?

A wisdom tooth or 3rd molar usually erupts from 18-21. Although there are some cases which defy these findings. No matter, because of evolutionary factors it has been found out that age occurence of eruption has escalated.

Before they even have 4th and 5th molars. That explained why the Homo erectus has a far exaggerated forward projection of their jaws.

Finding also tells us that a wisdom tooth should always be extracted. Now that's another question...

Hope that helped.  (+ info)

ectopic eruption is it serious?

Hello, my six year old just showed me her mouth and I was suprised to see two teeth growing directly behind her two front bottom teeth! I tried to wiggle her baby teeth but they are not lose, she doesnt seem to be in any pain. but why are these teeth growing right behind her baby teeth, and do you think she will need braces? thanks
----------

She may need braces ..one day! BUT, dont freak out yet, its wayyyy to early for that.

This happens and is normal. Rule of thumb, if the tooth is more than half way out, let the doctors take it (them) out. It's time too. If there just starting to come out, relax... the baby teeth still have time to loosen up and pop out. Mean time... have your daughter start working on the baby teeth. You'd rather have her get them out then having us do it! Children at that age are so scared of Dentist. And that, in turn doesnt help us do our job very easily and/or the situation at all!  (+ info)

Delayed tooth eruption.?

What could be happening if an 11 month old hasn't had his first tooth eruption yet?
----------

correct it's an average but i saw and heared about congenital missing of tooth/teeth ...
if there is no family history and if your baby has no systemic problems then do not worry it will eventually appear..
but for your knowledge causes of delayed eruption are:
general causes which are :hereditary gingival fibromatosis, down syndrome,rickets,cleido-cranial dysostosis.
local causes which are:congenital absence, retention of primary teeth, abnormal position of the crypt.....etc  (+ info)

What is ectopic eruption?

Ectopic eruption is the abnormal eruption of a permanent tooth that often causes root resorption of an adjacent primary tooth. Two types of permanent first molar ectopic eruption can be distinguished. In the reversible type, the molar, after resorbing the distal root surface of the second primary molar, becomes free and erupts into its normal position in the dental arch. In the irreversible type, the erupting first permanent molar becomes blocked by the second primary molar, and the permanent molar remains in this locked position until treatment is provided or premature exfoliation of the primary molar occurs.  (+ info)

Can you surgically force an eruption of a 3rd molar/wisdom tooth rather than having it extracted?

3 out of my 4 wisdom teeth have erupted and are in use. One upper right is not erupted. I am in orthodontic treatment now. The Orthodontist has recommended that I get just the right two removed, as he has gotten the left upper and lower together for a proper bite. My question is: Can you have a surgical procedure to remove the tissue around a 3rd molar/wisdom tooth, essentially forcing an eruption and then bracketing or chaining that tooth down into position? I guess I would rather keep than remove. Can that be done?

FYI,
IT'S NOT WORTH THE TIME AND EFFORT FOR THIS WORK ON THIS TOOTH.  (+ info)

I need information on abnormal lateral incisor eruption. Our 20 mth old son has another tooth coming in....?

He has another lateral incisor coming in on top of the one that is already there. I'm getting a referral for a pediatric dentist. However, I wanted to look up information on the web first.
----------

I'd suggest looking at the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry website. http://www.aapd.org They might not address your son's specific situation, but they would be where I'd check first.
I hope things turn out well for you and your little guy.  (+ info)
