standard questionnaire on socio-economic impact assessment on bovine trypanosomiasis.?

I require the use of the standard questionnaire to facilitate the quality of my research work, please.

I'm quite sure that if you're doing serious research on bovine trypanosomiasis you will want to make up your own questionnaire in order to better tailor your research and target audience.  (+ info)

Is Halal Gelatin made from beef or bovine sources?

I am a strict vegetarian Hindu living in Malaysia. Most of the sweets here which contain Gelatin will say "Gelatin (halal)" on the packet. I know that Muslims are forbidden to eat pork, so the gelatin would either be from cows or from agar or other vegetarian sources. I definitely don't want to eat beef, and I don't want to eat any other animal products either. Does anyone here know if "Gelatin (halal)" in Malaysia generally comes from bovine or vegetarian sources?
----------

Halal gelatine is made by boiling the skin, tendons, and ligaments of halal animals. After the process known as hydrolysis, it contains protein, collagen (a primary component of joints and cartilage), and various amino acids.

This is what you find in Halal sweets. If agar agar if used, it will say this. Kosher gelatin is sometimes made with agar agar, but it, too, may be made from kosher beef.

What animals in the bovine family are considered beef?

What animals in the bovine family are considered beef

Some countries I have been to considered cattle, buffalo, bison all to be beef which is it or is it all of them
When I was in Asia every-time I asked for beef I received Water Buffalo and everybody where I was consider Water Buffalo as beef
----------

People think we eat cows, but the fact is, if you ate a cow it would probably kill you. In the U.S. we eat steer. There are different grades of steer, but they are all considered "beef". Bison is bison and buffalo is buffalo. Neither are "beef".  (+ info)

What are bovine hormones - something like that?

What are bovine hormones (I think that's what it's called/how it's spelled). What's it do, what's it used for?
Or should I say bovine growth hormones.
----------

It's a hormone that scientists put in the cows so that they produce more milk, and some consumers suspect that this hormone, even if not harmful, at least detracts from the purity of milk.  (+ info)

The only way to avoid African Trypanosomiasis is by eliminating the vector (tse-tse) or protecting yourself from it while in endemic areas by using mosquito repellent and sleeping under mosquito nets.   (+ info)

How do I explain to the bovine lummox that I work with that sleeping for 7 hours is not on?

When I dare to broach the subject she denies sleeping at all (she's asleep now by the way) and runs off in tears.
My apologies; this is AT work (ten hour night shift).
----------

before ur shift starts take her to one side and explain that during the shift uve noticed shes sleeping a lot, ask her if night duty really is the best option for her if she cannot manage to physically DO any work. That night give her loads of work to do, theres allways something to do even if its sorting out a filing cabinet! if she continues to sleep excessivly at work youll have to take it further, at least then u can say u have tried to manage the situation.  (+ info)

I bought a medicine and it has bovine in it as an ingredient, bovine is extracted from cows,is it halal?

How bovine is extracted from cows,i dont know,so can the ulemas here answer my query please.
----------

Although both the Islamic and Jewish traditions allow one to consume a religiously questionable product as a medicine under compulsion, consumers generally avoid knowingly taking anything that is religiously doubtful. For example, some people may take a prescription medicine in a potentially prohibited gelatin capsule. Gelatin capsules, unless certified halal and/or kosher or labeled bovine, are generally made of pork gelatin. Muslim consumers consider pork gelatin haram, and it is unacceptable to most Orthodox Jewish consumers as well.

Medicine that is used to cure a disease or to help overcome illness is considered exempt from halal food regulations.

Prescription drugs generally do not have alternative products available to replace a prescribed drug. If a drug is available in capsule form only, one is obligated to take it. However, multivitamins and other dietary supplements are not normally taken to cure serious illness, but to improve one's health. Moreover, there are many alternative forms of multivitamins such as tablets, liquids, vegetable capsules, etc., so one does not have to take vitamins in gelatin capsules.

Many Muslim consumers try to purchase alcohol-free products (e.g., cough syrups). They also may ask the pharmacist for tablets rather than gelatin capsules. Jewish consumers may be concerned about the source of the alcohol, especially as more grape-derived and baking-derived alcohols are used. For Passover, kosher consumers also will want to avoid corn and grain alcohols.

Gelatin is very commonly used to make capsules, both softgel and two-piece hard shell. Halal gelatin, cellulose or starch can be used instead of porcine gelatin. Kosher-certified gelatin (bovine and fish) also is available. However, gelatin-free products made from vegetable materials could be halal, kosher as well as vegetarian (vegan)--all at the same time.

It's a choice you have to make....Is there a substitution? Can you ask the Doctor if something else would work.

Good luck to you my friend.  (+ info)

Whole Foods Flax Seed Oil Pills - do they contain bovine or non-bovine gelatin?

I bought Whole Foods brand Flax Seed Oil pills today and was unable to read the ingredients list while in the store. When I came home, the ingredients list did not specify whether the gelatin used is bovine or non-bovine. I tried to look it up on their website but could not find any info.
----------

I tried searching for the Whole Foods brand, and couldn't find anything. Their brand is also called '365', right? I couldn't find anything under that name either.

Although I'm not answering your question directly, I thought I might give an alternative suggestion, considering I've tried tons of different stuff. What works quite well, and is more palatable that swallowing giant gelatin capsules (yuk), is to get the oil in a bottle and add it to your food. A great brand is 'Udo's Oil', which is carried in Whole Foods, or something similar. Udo's (and others like it) is a blend of different oils, including evening primrose oil, which helps with hormonal stuff and PMS (including cramps, etc.)

When you get the oil, make sure it comes from a refrigerator or cooler of some kind, and is in a dark colored bottle. Once you get it home, keep it in the fridge as well. All you have to do is add however much you want to to what you're eating. Obviously oil doesn't go great with every type of food, but there are many things it tastes great on... salads, stir-fries, steamed veggies, pasta... just make sure you put it on after the food is cooked, and don't actually cook with the oil... the high heat destroys the important components of the fatty acids.  (+ info)

----------

What are the steps in the production of insulin from bovine or porcine?

I know that insulin from pigs and cattle are still done.

how is it made?
----------

Early insulin was deriveved from animal sources - not rats, but from pigs and cows, giving the terms "porvine" from pigs and "borvine" from cows. However animal insulin did show to have a few problems when inserted into humans and so a human form of insulin has now been developed.
Do not have much information about its production
