Are there any over the counter treatments for female genital thrush?

Genital thrush is just another word for a yeast infection. There are many different yeast infection products available over the counter in the pharmacies today. Canestin seems to be quite popular, though I have never had to use any of those products myself.

Keep in mind that the signs of a yeast infection can be very similar to some signs of certain STIs (chlamydia, gonnorrhea, etc), so you should see your doctor to make sure that you do, indeed, have a yeast infection and not something more serious.

If you are certain it is a yeast infection you have, you can even get a test kit over the counter now, just to be sure, and it tells you if you have a yeast infection or not.

Yeast infections are easy to treat but can cause some serious complications if left for too long. So get to that pharmacy or the doctor quickly!

Some one on here ask How many american women are against genital alterations on infants? Now i know that it can be done to a male but what would be done to a female?

I do have genital herpes. I am a female. Is it dangerous and does it cause a cervical cancer?

I took acyclovir tablets. 5 tablets each day for five days but I don`t know it helped me or not. I never had symptoms.
Herpes does NOT cause cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer is associated with hpv - the human papilloma virus.

It was believed in the 1970s that herpes was a factor in development of cervical cancer, but this was dispproved many years ago - hence the development of the hpv vaccine gardasil which protects against the main strains of hpv that cause cervical cancer.

The only relation between the two is that likelihood of having herpes increases as the number of sexual partners increases, which in turn increases your risk of catching hpv. In this sense, herpes could be seen as an additional 'risk factor' for cervical cancer, but only in that it is sometimes(!) an indicator of a higher-risk sexual past. Herpes itself is NOT involved in the development of cervical cancer.

To you as an adult with genital herpes, the herpes virus is not dangerous. It is merely an annoying viral skin infection, which is not at all dangerous and does you no harm. The main problem with herpes is not herpes itself, but the huge stigma attached to it.

As a female, if you have a baby there is a VERY small risk of passing on the virus to your baby during a vaginal birth. Neonatal herpes, as it is called, can be extremely dangerous to a baby, often causing death. But it is very rare, and can be prevented by taking antiviral medication in the run up to the birth, or having a c-section. It normally only occurs when a woman catches herpes for the first time during pregnancy.

Acyclovir can be very helpful at stopping outbreaks, if you start taking it as soon as the first warning symptoms of an outbreak start.  (+ info)

I am doing a group project about FGM. I was wondering if when the girl gets the procedure done, if the instruments used were not sterile, would that leave her vulnerable to STDs? I can't find any evidence of it, but someone in my group says she found that on the web, help would be appreciated! Thanks!!
Well, if the instruments are not sterile, that leaves the girl vulnerable to infection, period. Obviously if she is having sex with open wounds, there is more risk for transmission of sexual diseases, but I don't think most of those who are mutilated have sex until after they have healed. A lot of times a "husband stictch" or sewing the vagina almost all the way closed, is part of the FGM process.  (+ info)

The world health organization is involved because people are dieing from this inhumane practice. Female genital circumcision is typically done in Muslim African tribes without anesthetic using old razors that are often rusty and have not been sterilized causing infection. Most of the time this practice is performed on young girls (ages 4-8) without their consent. The lack of anesthetic can lead to death from the shock of pain or excessive bleeding. This practice also puts the children of these girls at extreme risk of death during birth.  (+ info)

she should have told that guy before the sex had sex. she is DEAD wrong for keeping that info from him. i caught genital herpes from my ex-boyfriend he witheld his STD status from me. in fact he lied about it. i thought i was doing the right thing. we used condoms but i still caught it. i broke up with him not because of the herpes, because he is a liar who didnt give a damn about my health. now i have to deal with the consequences of my bad judgement. i would NEVER EVER keep the fact that i have herpes from a potiential partner. my choice was taken from me I won't do it to another person.
