What does a retroflexed uterus and fluid in the culdesac and adnexa mean?

I have been having night sweats and pelvic pain. I had a CT scan of my abdomen and pelvis in mid-March. It showed a cyst on my right ovary.

Six weeks later, I had a pelvic & transvaginal ultrasound. My doctor syas if my symptoms persist, to see a gynecologist which she had already recommended anyway. Should I be concerned about these results?

Findings: The uterus is retroflexed. It measures 8.3 cm in length. The endometrial stripe measures 6.0 mm in thickness. There is a small amount of free fluid in the cul-de-sac and adnexa. Multiple follicles are present within the ovaries. The right ovary measures 2.7 x 3.0 x 2.7 cm. The left ovary measures 2.9 x 2.9 x 2.8 cm.

Impression: Small free fluid in the pelvis. Bilateral ovarian follicles.
I thought I should mention that I found out I had chlamydia maybe 2 years ago. I was treated but I have no idea how long I had had it.

Not long after that I had severe pelvic pain for 2 or 3 days but was too scared to go to the doctor. Every time I've mentioned to a doctor the possiblity of PID they never have taken it seriously. I still wonder if I have or had it.

I have pelvic pain off and on and sometimes it radiates down my leg or I feel it in my lower back. I have also had night sweats for over 5 years. And twice in that 5 year period, I've had unexplained fevers or chills. Also, there are times when I have the urgent need to urinate. Lastly, I sometimes have a brown discharge before my period starts. My periods are regular though.
----------

A retroflexed uterus means that the uterus is tipped backwards. This is a pretty common occurrence for women. I have a friend whose uterus is tipped backwards. Mine is tipped forward.

The free fluid in the cul-de-sac means that liquid like what can occur with a period is sitting in a space called the cul-de-sac (a space at the back of the uterus) and around the uterus itself.

I would recommend asking your doctor for further clarification of the results to see what she says.

what is a cystic lesion in the region of the left adnexa?

7.6 x 7.3 cm complex cystic lesion in the region of the left adnexa
I had my left ovary and uterus removed in 2003. First the ultrasound found numerous cysts in my right ovary. Now today I saw the doc and the ultrasound can't find my right ovary and they said I have a left ovary ........I know for a fact my left ovary was removed as well as my uterus. ?????
----------

This means you have a cyst that contains fluid that is not clear in the pelic region near the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Most of these are benign but can cause a great deal of discomfort. Treatment may include hormone therapy or surgery to remove the cyst. This size is rather large. Cyclic cysts generally are not treated until they are greater tan 4 cm. You gyn doctor should give you more information about treatment options.  (+ info)

info on nodule within left adnexa paraovarian cyst?

Ron a growth on adnexae can be anything. You want to describe the symptoms and signs that led to ultrasound or CT scan, that found this lesion, then you describe the lesion completely and then I can try to help you more. Otherwise try to read it up on webmd.com, mayoclinic.com or familydoctor.org or NIH website, good luck  (+ info)

what are the implications of the ovarian retention cyst in fertility and how is it been treated. The drugs .?

I have a kind of inflammation in my pelvic and I experienced a short sharp pain in the right side of my lower abdomen. The inflammation has been coming and going and I have been taken some antibiotics. I went to a laboratory test and pelvic scan and a retention cyst of diameter 1.5cm was found in the right adnexa (ovary) and I have been given antibiotic injection and some drugs but the problem persists. May be I have not received the right treatment.I need to be treated and got relieved. Does it have any negative implication on fertility?
----------

Hold UP ... First of all, antibiotics have nothing to do with treating an ovarian cyst. I was just diagnosed with an one and initially, there is NOTHING that they will do to treat it.

Based on the information that I found from researching, ovarian cysts are common in women (especially pre-menopausal) and the cyst usually takes care of itself by either absorbing back into the system or bursting (like a pimple).

Follicle retention cysts (the predominant ovarian cysts) are simple follicle retention cysts, small and frequently numerous cysts containing a clear fluid. A follicle is the localized area of the ovary in which the egg matures. When ovulation does not occur, the follicle may continue to grow, forming a cystic mass that rarely exceeds two or three inches in diameter. Usually, follicle cysts disappear without treatment within two months, and they do not become malignant growths.

Good luck! I know the pain is unbearable at times!!  (+ info)

Is there something wrong with my uterus and left ovary?

I had a CT scan for other reasons but when the results came back it said:

The uterus is slightly prominent. The left adnexa is slightly prominent at 25x35mm. There may be multiple cysts. The right adnexa is not grossly enlarged. There is no fluid in the cul-de-sac. Impression: Prominent left ovary and prominent endometrium

Don't tell me to ask my doctor, there is a reason why i'm asking for general 2nd opinion...answer if you have insight...personal or professional.

Thank you!

What is Pelvic Ultrasound?

I didn't got my period for at least 3months, so i went to the OB. She wanted me to have a pelvic ultrasound, so i went to have one. The results red: I have a normal size antruverted uterus, and thin endometrium lining (4 mm). I have clear adnexa and cul de sac. What does that mean? And what actually is a PELVIC ULTRASOUND, different from TRANS ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND.? HOw did my endometrial stripe affect my period.
What can dtect pregnancy? a Transabdominal Ultrasound or a Transvaginal one?
----------

Here you go, its the best answer I could find. :)

Note: For your note, I do believe that both can be used. I think the vaginal one is supposed to be better for earlier in the pregnancy since it is closer to the womb, but i'm not positive.  (+ info)

Question about an MRI?

I had an MRI on my lumbar spine and I went to pick up a copy of the report. On the report it says I have a dominant follicle on the right adnexa which measures 1.9 cm. How can an MRI of the spine show the ovaries?

----------

It is when you have a miscarriage but it doesnt come out like a normal miscarriage (you dont have pain & bleeding).

I had the same thing, thought everything was fine until I had the scan. I was meant to be 9 weeks but the baby had died at 6 weeks. I was told to wait & see if my body would expel it naturally but nothing happened so I had a D&C. 3 months later I got pregnant & am now 13 weeks & everythings fine.

I dont think there's any explanation, you were just unlucky & hopefully next time you'll be fine.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Ultrasound question...so does this mean i'm not pregnant?

I missed my periods 3 cycles in a row. My last period was March 9 and that means my periods had gone for 3 months already. I went to the OB and she recommended me to be scanned from Ultrasound. The results was red like this: I have NORMAL-sized antreverted UTERUS with thin ENDOMETRIAL LINING (4mm) and clear Adnexa and POSTERIOR cul de sac. That was just it. I showed the OB the results of my U/S, and she explained to me that my Uterine lining is still thin, so she's not yet going to give me pills to regulate my period. She said that i should wait for at least another month, and if my period hasn't come, then i shud be scanned again to be able to see the size of my uterine lining. If it's thick, then i should take the pills-and that'll jumpstart my period. & if that's the case, Am i not really Pregnant? It's like, it's so good to be true coz i don't want to be pg.! HAs pregnancy been ruled out? I know i really ssound paranoid but please tell me that i'm not pregnant.
Umm, i told her that i took pregnancy tests and all negatives, but i didn't ask her about the evaporation lines, i guess that's not important, does it? The Ultrasounds are much important ryt? Coz if i'm preg then she should've given me prenatal care instead of waitng for another month ryt? correct me if i'm wrong.
----------

With all that testing, your doctor would have discovered that you are pregnant by now...and wouldn't suggest bringing on your period if you were in fact pregnant.

You are not pregnant.  (+ info)
