should a Cystoscopy/Ureteral Stent placement be performed with no pain medication?

I was told I would be receiving morphine but none was given.
this was the most painful experience that I could ever have imagined,
I kept yelling "it #$#$% hurts
doctor kept saying relax, don't tense up,
after the procedure I was told to get off the operating table but was unable so he lifted me off himself and put me in a wheel chair and as the shock was getting more intense he then gave me 2
vicodins

Does it hurt to have a ureteral stent removed?

No. I've had this procedure performed on a number of occassions. I had two ureteric stents removed yesterday and I'm back at work today. The procedure took only a few minutes whilst I was under general anaesthetia. It can also be performed under local anaesthesia, but only after consultation with your physician as to which is most suitable for you..

My stents were inserted after laser treatment for renal calculi. There was severe, sharp pain whilst urinating for approximately 12 hours after this procedure, however. This pain is only temporary and is normal.

A couple of months prior to the laser treatment I had eswl (shockwave) treatment on the other kidney. A stent was inserted at the same time. There were absolutely no adverse after-effects or pain after this treatment, apart from the normal post-surgery effects of general anaesthesia.

Some stents (those with a string attached) may be removed in the specialists own surgery.

Of course, other individuals may experience varied results.  (+ info)

Sex with having a ureteral stent in?

I had a Ureteral stent put in last Tuesday, and it has to stay in for to more weeks. This is a stent that goes from the kidney to the bladder and is usually in place after having a kidney stone removed. Does anybody know if I ccan have sex??? I am scared to but, at the same time, I don't really know why I wouldn't be able to, maybe if I orgasm it will tighten down on the stent? I don't know??? HELP?

call and ask your doctor if it's ok.....that would be the best bet.  (+ info)

Had ureteral stent 6 weeks for a post-radiotherapy stenosis with no effect. Should i put another one for 3m?

I had ureteral stenosis after radio-therapy and the right kidney doesn't produce a good flow. So i had a ureteral stent for 6 weeks. 4 weeks after removal, the situation hasn't changed. They say another might be necessary for 3 months. I should add that i felt very bad when i had the stent (and after), but i didn't have any simptomatology before. What should i do?
----------

Go for it!
Your kidneys are one of the vey sensitive organs in the body. Any obstruction to the flow of urine can have devastating consequences. You can end up with renal failure requiring life long dialysis. Ask a person on dialysis what a pain in the a** it is.  (+ info)

ureteral stone and bubble urine?

if you have a ureteral stone up high and your urine is bubbly or foamy does this mean it is coming out?or what?
----------

Foamy urine doesn't mean too much. It just means there are more air in the urine. It may be due to the way urine comes out - maybe you have bladder spasm from the pain of the stone.

If stone is coming out, you might see blood. If the stone is stuck, you might develop fever or have pus coming out.

Either way, go see an urologist as soon as possible to get that stone out.  (+ info)

is thyroidectomy the ONLY way to determine if a papillary lesion / follicular neoplasm is benign or malignant?

My wife recently underwent FNAB for the thyroid gland and the findings were:
1. PAPILLARY LESION
2. FOLLICULAR NEOPLASM.
Suggest thyroidectomy for a definitive diagnosis.
Microscopic Description:
Smears disclose a fairly cellular aspirate composed of cohesive clusters of follicular cells, in attempt to form acini and short papillary fronds. The cells show vesicular nuclei, with focal areas of pleomorphism. The background is hemorrhagic containing thin colloid materials and few mixed leukocytes.

I really would like to know if the it is benign or malignant but is there any other way besides invasive surgery? Thanks a lot in advance for all the answers and help.
----------

If FNAB demonstrate follicular neoplasm , we must perform thyroid lobectomy for determining if it's malignant or not , and regarding to this , we will design the further definite and main operation .

There is no way other than this yet .

In some situations , we can perform total thyroidectomy as a plan to determine the permanent pathology at first ( there is several indications : old patients , mass more than 4 cm , ... ) .

But about Papillary neoplasm it's somewhat different : we can plan for a definite operation , also with a FNAB .  (+ info)

how painful is it to have a ureteral stent removed if it has a string ?

As a male, it hurts.

I really suggest you take two narcotic pain killers about an hour before the procedure. (Obviously, don't drive.)

This should make the removal bearable.  (+ info)
