is it possible I have cervical cancer if I just had a normal internal uterine ultrasound a month ago?

I had my yearly exam (PAP and HPV test) and an internal uterine ultrasound a month ago. I also had blood work done (at my regular dr)
At the exam, the dr told me I was a healthy 33 yr old. My bloodwork done by my general practicioner was all normal, including normal CBC (complete blood count). My ultrasound was normal and my PAP was normal, but my HPV was positive. Is it possible to have cervical cancer even though the ultrasound was normal? (as well as the pap) Would some kind of abnormality or red flag show in the ultrasound?
Thanks

I will start off by saying... if you are really concerned you should really talk to you doctor about it. (I am not a doctor!)

However, cervical cancer is often identified by the PAP smear itself. And nowawadays, PAP smears are being prepared-better and the accuaracy of diagnosis has improved, significantly in the past 10 years. Basically, during the proceedure, the doctor "scrapes" of cells around and on your cervix ... and also takes a look at your cervix, to ensure that it looks healthy. At the lab, the cells are mounted onto slides and highly trained technicians look at the cells that have been scraped away. When they examine your cervical cells, they're looking for specific changes in morphology and staining ... and based on their observations they diagnose you as "normal" "ASCUS" or "Cancer" (ASCUS is SOMETIMES an intermediate stage of becoming cancer ... and you doctor will decide the best course of action). Therefore, the PAP smear is the best way to "watch" and prevent advanced cancer progression ... because it is done yearly.

I am guessing that you did an HPV test (where they look for HPV DNA on your cervix). Well, as it turns out there are NUMEROUS strains of HPV http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPV#HPV_types_and_associated_diseases !!! However, only a certain subset of HPV viruses/organisms are known to cause cervical cancer. (ie. there are more strains that don't cause cancer that DO cause cancer). So, just because you tested positive for HPV doesn't mean that you have or will develop cervical cancer. It's just that if you have HPV (or specific strains of HPV) you may be at a significantly higher risk of developing cervical cancer. Of course, your doctor will prescribe the best "follow-up" for you.

But, the pap and HPV DNA test, when performed together is the best tool for cancer diagnosis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPV#HPV_types_and_associated_diseases. So, it seems as if you should be in good shape!

Futhremore, with the "battery" of test that you've done ... it is likely that everything is just-fine, and you are healthy!!!

Again, please contact your physician with your questions.. and to ensure the accuracy of my answer!

Best wishes!  (+ info)

Are uterine sarcoma and osteo sarcomea related?

I am an osteosarcoma survivor and I have had some issues lately that have my gyn doing a cervical biopsy. Is it possible to be in the clear from one to have it spread to another?
----------

sarcoma is simply a term meaning cancer, the osteo meant it was in the bone, uterine then would mean it was in the uterus. And of course cancer can travel from one area of the body to another.  (+ info)

Cervical or uterine cancer?

I am 18 and i am having an ultrasound tomorrow to work out why the pain in my pelvis wont go away and i haven't had a period in over 6 months.

Can anyone tell me the statistics on cancer of this region in 18 year olds because i cannot find any on the internet.

Thanks in a advance for anybody that takes the time to answer me.

Thanks.
----------

You probably can’t find any because it is too rare and I’m not sure why you would even think of it, but 0.1% of all cervical cancers and 0.5% of all uterine cancers occur in girls under 20.  (+ info)

What could this mean? Cervical/uterine prolaspse?

History- I had my 3rd baby and after that I felt something in my vigina, which at the time didn't know what a cervix really felt like. They said my bladder dropped a little. they acted as no big deal. Well then got pregnant 2 months later.
Had the baby-
Which leads to now- he is 5 months. I feel the same thing again, just alittle more down my vigina. I know it is my cervix now. I have no pain or any symptoms just my cervix about a finger length in from the opening. I am going to the dotcors soon but what does this mean? I am really scared even to do any kind of heavy lifting. Will I beable to have more children without loosing my uturus? Did this happen to any of you? I really would like your input!

Also, could it be my bladder pushing down to make my cervix come down and then would mean it is not my uturus at all- what are the chances that it could be that?

Thank you for your help! I am really scared that this is depressing me.

Uterine prolapse is a condition in which a woman's uterus (womb) sags or slips out of its normal position. The uterus is held in place within the pelvis by a group of muscles and ligaments. As these structures weaken, they become unable to hold the uterus in position, and it begins to sag. Uterine prolapse is fairly common, especially in women who have had vaginal deliveries. There are surgical and non-surgical options for treating uterine prolapse. If the prolapse is mild you may be instructed to do kegel exercises which will strengthen your pelvic muscles. You may even need to get a vaginal pessary -- A pessary is a rubber or plastic doughnut-shaped device that fits around or under the lower part of the uterus (cervix), helping to prop up the uterus and hold it in place. If your prolapse is severe you may need a special surgery to fix it called uterine suspension -- This procedure involves putting the uterus back into its normal position.
And no you shouldn't try to do any type of heavy lifting.  (+ info)

What would my cervical mucus be like after implanation?

I got ovulation pains a week ago, had sex that night, got uterine cramping about 6 days later, now i got aching legs and lower back but not due my period for a while yet so dont think its that. My CM is slighty sticky could i be pregnant? is this how CM should be after implantation, its to early for a test.
----------

I wish CM would be a good indicator of early pregnancy, but unfortunately it isn't during the first trimester. Don't you think it would be great if your CM turned blue when you were pregnant, or something like that?! LOL

Normally I get creamy CM from 3dpo until 10dpo every month, and abundant CM is normal. But the other symptoms sound good. Best of luck!  (+ info)

Uterine or cervical or ovarian cancer?

Hello, I am really scared and I can't get any answers from the doctors. Here is my story. Ever since I had my daughter six months ago I have been suffering major problems. My periods are irregular and heavy and very painful. But that isn't all. I get dark brown discharge like old blood for two weeks every month along with painful cramping and stomach pain. Then when the brown discharge is gone I get a large amount of discharge that comes out of me li8ke urine. I am in so much pain constantly. It hurts to breathe or move. My periods have been coming like 1-2 weeks late every month. I have been extremely nauseated constantly too. I am bloated and have gas and can hardly eat anymore because of feeling so bloated and my stomach aches. I have gone to the ER several times because I can not find a gyno and my pelvic exams are normal, but docs say there is definitely something going on. They have seen the large amounts of blood and discharge, but they say they don;t know what it is. Ovarian and cervical Cancer does run in my family. And I have been unable to sleep at night sometimes because I get such horrible leg cramps and back pain. At my six weeks postpartum check up my pap did come back abnormal, but like I said I have no gyno right now, can anybody give me any ideas of what it MIGHT be or what I could do. I have tried to get in with a gyno but no one is accepting any new patients right now, so I am left with going to the ER every month. It is embarrassing and I just want to know I am not crazy and that there might actually be something to this. Please feel free to email me I need serious answers to my problem. Note: I had my tubes tied and my husband is fixed too, and I am not pregnant.

Sounds like maybe endometriosis? You stated that you recently had a child, maybe your OB didn't get everything removed during birth... I would suggest finding another Dr. They now have a procedure called ablation. It is performed after a D&C (which I think you need to have) . Since you are not planning on having more children, it should be something that they can do for you. Look into it.....  (+ info)

If Uterine or Cervical Cancer is left untreated for approximately a year how far could they spread?

I just went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago; I went when I first started bleeding, but was told "I can't do anything you're bleeding to bad". Well my bleeding slowed down some, they did some test and found out I have Uterine Cancer. I go to the Dr. today to see if I also have it in my cervix since my pap smear was abnormal too. The thing is I'm curious how far could these type of cancers spread within a years time? I know that I will get opinions on here, but I'm awake and can't sleep and just want to see what you guys think. Give me some ideas on the type of questions I should ask the Dr. later today.
I went to the Doctor first about a year ago with the abnormal bleeding.
----------

I'm so sorry this happen to you. It's s difficult question to answer because no matter what kind of cancer you have, it depends on how aggressive the cancer is. If you're Dr knew this a year ago and did nothing, you need to change Dr. If I'm reading the question right. Always, always get a second opinion. Your Dr should not object to it. Most don't. I got a second opinion and I'm glad I did. Make sure you get an Oncologist. This Dr will be able to help you more than an OB/GYN, if that's who your seeing now. Ask your Dr why nothing was done a year ago and now you have uterine cancer. That didn't just show up over night. You may have to have a hysterectomy. My sister did when she had uterine cancer because it spread to her cervix and ovaries. So she had a complete hysterectomy. I am not sure how long she had hers before she found out. I strongly suggest another opinion. Ask your Dr. what she intends to do about the uterine cancer and what will she do if she finds cancer in your cervix. Ask her what the line of treatment is. Will she recommend surgery or chemo. Ask what kind of chemo you will have if you need it. These are questions I asked my Oncologist. I pray you don't have it in your cervix. I pray your cancer can be cured. You have my support and prayers. God bless you  (+ info)

Cervical Incompetence?

At 17 weeks pregnant my cervix measured 4.1cm at what rate can the cervix begin to shorten? I am asking because I had a LEEP procedure done about a year ago and its alittle scary. 4.1cm is a great number but I go to the dr every 4 weeks and I have no clue when they will measure my cervix again. Can the cervix literally go from 4.1cm to lower than 2.5cm in a matter of weeks?

Cervical incompetence...they say there are no signs...?

Has anyone experienced this? I'm 4 months and have read about this. Has anyone experienced signs or as it was happening...do you just start bleeding or ....? Thanks in advance!
----------

I seem to have this problem. I started off feeling low back pain then some cramping followed by mild bleeding. Luckily I went to the hospital in time.

The doctors usually put a cervical stich around the cervix to keep the baby in place.  (+ info)
