Can yearly pap detect possible uterine fibroids?

I had a yearly well woman exam 5 months ago. Would the OB/GYN be able to detect uterine fibroids. I ask because I have had feelings of fullness and growth in the uterus area. I am NOT pregnant so I just don't understand why wouldn't the Doc be able to detect something like this if it was just 3 months ago.
Just like to thank y'all for responding. I go in this afternoon to have them take a look.

Can a uterine infection after a c-section lead to enlarged fallopian tube?

I had a c-section when delivering my daughter and 5 days later I had a 103 degree fever and I was throwing up. When I called my doctor they said I would be fine and I didn't need to go to the office or to the ER. I believe that I had a uterine infection because I bled for 3 months and I now have been diagnosed with an enlarged fallopian tube, could they be related?
----------

Wherever the infection started, it could have very well spread to the tube, causing it to become enlarged. Have you had an HSG to see if your tubes are blocked? If you are TTC again or will be in the future, you should.  (+ info)

My doctor just told me that I have a small uterine fibroid?

I am 35 weeks pregnant and my MD just just told me I have a small uterine fibroid that was seen on my 8 week ultrasound. I was just told now 6 months later that they saw this months ago I'm annoyed. What is this growth? How do they know it is a fibroid and not a cancerous tumor if there was no biopsy? Does anyone know anything about this?
----------

Fibroids are normal and aren't cancerous. It is like a cyst. Don't freak out. Enjoy your pregnancy:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg82FRl7p5Y&feature=related  (+ info)

Why does the uterine lining thicken during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle?

What happens to the blood and in the ovary to make it do that?
----------

Addy- I really don't know. When I have health questions I go to WEBMD I find it very helpful. I was never normal as a teenager/young adult w/ a menstrual cycle and it turned out I had endometriosis, and ended up needing a full hysterectomy @ 29 years old. At that time not much was known what caused it.
I did have a friend that had problems conceiving a baby and as I recall her uterus didn't thicken and the follicles were I guess... little or short, and therefore didn't grasp an egg in which to be fertilized.
I am taking a complete guess on that, as I said, try WEBMD.COM I think it may help  (+ info)

How long after uterine fibroid surgery can you try to conceive?

Not sure if this makes a difference, but they are going in through the belly button.
Thank you very much, good luck with everything!
----------

Did the surgery my doctor told me three months but I was feel too weak due to blood loss and sore from all the cuts inside. After six months my body felt well enough but no such blessing yet, still praying for my sunshine.  (+ info)

What can cause uterine prolapse in a healthy 22 year old with no previous pregnancies?

I've noticed in the last year my uterus has dropped down alot, my cervix is about an inch from the opening of my vagina. I dont know why this would happen bc I've never been pregnant, am a normal weight and in decent shape. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this?
----------

I don't know how helpful this will be, but i've been told that sometimes it can be hereditary. And then on the other hand, it can sometimes be from physical activity. If you don't think that its affecting your health at the moment, you can do excersises to strengthen the muscles that hold you cervix tight. I suppose it would be what pregnant women do throughout their pregnancies to strengthen their pelvic muscles and maintain bladder control. You can always double check.  (+ info)

What the benefits of doing GIFT/ZIFT vs regular IVF with uterine placement?

I am going through fertility treatments, but haven't gotten to IVF yet. Just wondering what the advantage is to getting GIFT (embbie put in your Fallopian tubes) vs uterine placement. Thanks!
----------

I know someone who had done ZIFT twice and was successful both times. I would have to say that if I were in your shoes I would do ZIFT instead of GIFT and even non-GIFT/ZIFT IVF before GIFT. With GIFT they put your eggs your partner’s sperm into your tubes via laparoscopy and then they can only hope for them to fertilize. With GIFT, you have NO idea if your eggs are fertilizing, so it's not really too much better than doing IUI. You are better off doing something where they can see how your eggs fertilize and grow.

The good thing about ZIFT is that they can do ICSI if they need to and they can choose the healthiest looking zygotes to put back into your tubes. There are a little higher success rates with ZIFT over IVF, but it's not done often because it's more invasive and more expensive. It is surgery and does cost more. I have read that the success rates are a little higher because there are fluids in the tubes that no lab can identically duplicate and therefore your body is the best incubator. If you are at a clinic that does co-culture, then I would guess that ZIFT success rates would be comparable to non-GIFT/ZIFT IVF.

You must not have any tubal issues to do ZIFT/GIFT either. Make certain you don’t!

GIFT and ZIFT is not used at a lot of clinics. If your clinic does to either, make certain that their success rates are high for your age group. Do this for non-GIFT/ZIFT cycles as well. You can check success rates at sart.org.

Good luck!

How many of you know the difference between a uterine contraction and a uterine cramp?

A muscle contraction and a muscle cramp are two totally different things. You don't want your uterus to cramp during labor.
