Have any of you had bacterial vaginosis during pregnancy & did everything turn out to be ok?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I'm positive I have bacterial vaginosis back for the 5th time. I read online if not treated it can cause miscarriages or even preterm labor...I guess most doctors dont treat this until the second trimester..Im really worried about waiting & I dont want to take the antibiotics & that cause birth defects. Has anyone else out there gone through this?
----------

yes, i had it during my first pregnancy. They did prescribe me the medicine. I was maybe 7 weeks pregnant or so. It clearly said do not take if pregnant but the doctor said it would be okay. I took a few days to think about it and while i was thinking the infection led to a miscarriage. It was horrible and i hate to think that maybe if i would have just took the medicine id have my first babies now.

I recommend doing what the doctor says and getting your bv treated right away!  (+ info)

Can my boyfriend and I still have sex if i have bacterial vaginosis?

People say it's not sexually trasmittable, but everytime we have sex, he comes out with small red irritated bumps on his penis. they go away within 15 minutes after sex. I know it's not anything like Herpes because I have Herpes, and that's not what it is. It seems as if my vaginal secretions are irritating him. Is this normal since I have bacterial vaginosis?
----------

You have to go to the doc for BV. They give you like 2 pills and it gets rid of it. It doesn't go away on it's own. My bf got it twice from the same guy and that is what she had to do. She said it made her stink really bad down there. Get yourself some help. And you really should be wearing a condom w/ your man if you have herpes. Does he know you have either of your STD's??  (+ info)

Is having oral sex safe if you have bacterial vaginosis?

Hi. I'm doing a research paper on bacterial vaginosis and one of the points I'm researching is a man giving a woman oral sex when she has bacterial vaginosis. I need to know if it would be harmful to the man, and if there is any disease he can contract by performing oral sex on his female partner. Bacterial vaginosis is not an STD, however, it is an infection.

Thank you.

It is unclear how women get BV. It seems to be associated with sexual activity but women may get it without being sexually active. It is most likely an imbalance of the naturally occurring bacteria found in the vagina. Too much bad, not enough good. What is known is that there is no infection like bacterial vaginosis (BV) found in men. For all of these reasons it is very unlikely that a man would be harmed by having oral sex with an infected woman.

However, one of the most common symptoms of BV is having a vaginal discharge with a very strong, embarrassing odor. So it is very unlikely that this has a chance to be tested very often, if you know what I mean.  (+ info)

How do you cure bacterial vaginosis?

I was just diagnosed with a bacterial infection which i believe is called bacterial vaginosis. I'm using a vaginal cream right now that will heal the infection. My doctor said that my boyfriend could be carrying it and then give it right back to me when we have sex even though i'm healed of it. Are there any home remedies or something that he could try so this doesn't happen. I've been dealing with this infection for over a year and i would hate to have to deal with it again. please help. thanks.
----------

There are oral and gel antibiotics (metronidazole, clindamycin and tinidazole) used to treat the BV. Reoccurrence of BV is common, and a second course of antibiotic is usually prescribed. As I said in your other question, I don't think you are. If you are so worried about it, go out and buy and pregnancy test and see for yourself. We can't tell you if you are pregnant or not.

Good luck.  (+ info)

Is it possible for a man to be carrying an infection tht causes a woman to get bacterial vaginosis?

I was with my ex for years and kept getting bacterial vaginosis. My Doctor told me that it is not a sexual transmitted disease but I havent had it again since I stopped having sex with him. Is it possible that he was the reason I kept getting it ?
----------

bacterial vaginosis is caused by an unbalance of the normal bacteria that exist in your vagina - not enough good to counter-act the not so good. MANY things can cause this - hot weather, too many soaps/ care products with perfumes, tight clothing, dietary changes and douching to name a few. Sexual activity of any kind certainly changes the chemical balance in your vagina - not just that with your ex. It wasn't specifically that he was giving you anything, just that the activity could have possibly contributed to the inbalance. Believe it or not, more women than you think get it more often than you think.  (+ info)

Is bacterial vaginosis found through the pap smear or the testing of STDs?

I recently found out I had bacterial vaginosis and am just wondering if this was found through the STD testing or the pap smear?
----------

Actually, a pap smear only tests for cervical cancer. Lots of women refer to a pelvic exam as a pap smear, but they are two different things. While doing a pelvic exam a doctor can do a pap smear and a test for bacteria.  (+ info)

Can a Cytotex abortion in 2005 cause Gardnerella vaginalis or bacterial vaginosis after 2 or 3 years?

Can a Cytotex abortion in 2005 cause Gardnerella vaginalis or bacterial vaginosis after 2 or 3 years? Why have antibiotics failed to treat the infection? And how can it be treated?
----------

No, I don't believe that your abortion would cause such a thing.

A lot of women suffer from chronic BV. (bacterial vaginosis). A leading culprit in it seems to be an exposure to semen in the vagina. Semen is alkaline and your vagina is acidic - the introduction of semen into the vagina causes the PH balance to be thrown off - causing for an over growth of bad bacteria (gardnerella). Also, near the time of your period your hormone levels drop and this can cause for bacteria overgrowth.
Other factors can be related to stress, tight fitting clothing, washing the vaginal area with perfumed soaps, etc....

A lot of women also have little, sometimes, no success with antibiotic treatment. There are other methods of keeping the PH balance normal such as taking Acidophulus supplements. 2billion+ per dosage. Also yogurt is found to help, plain yogurt only. There's a product called Rephresh which restores the vaginal PH - but it is costly and not a permanent long term solution.

I am currently taking the medication for bacterial vaginosis, but I am still having a major itch and discharge?

I started taking Metronidazol for my bacterial vaginosis two days ago. The discharge, burning, itching, and odor all stopped, until last night. There was a light itch and this morning, it was really bad. I haven't had sex or anything to cause this to come back. My doctor told me to take the prescribed medicine for 1 week. Why did this itching come back, what does it mean, and is this medicine even working?

You should see a doctor ,it might be infected.  (+ info)

Could i have gotten a bacterial vaginosis from my partner?

went to the doctor and he prescribed me Cleocin cream to be used for 7 days for bacterial vaginosis.could i have gotten it from my patner?nas is it a sexual trasmitted disease? and has anyone used cleocin?thanks.
----------

I had BV before and you can't get it from your partner. You could however get it from having continous sex. At the time i got it, my boyfriend and I was having contant sex. In addition it is caused by an overgrowth on bacteria in your body. I lot of females get BV. I did not take the medicine you had. I can't remember what i took, but it was two huge pills daily. But it was gone withing 7 days. Good Luck!  (+ info)
