There are generally two types of problems that result in bradycardias: disorders of the sinoatrial node (SA node), and disorders of the atrioventricular node (AV node).
With sinus node dysfunction (sometimes called sick sinus syndrome), there may be disordered automaticity or impaired conduction of the impulse from the sinus node into the surrounding atrial tissue (an "exit block"). It is difficult and sometimes impossible to assign a mechanism to any particular bradycardia, but the underlying mechanism is not clinically relevant to treatment, which is the same in both cases of sick sinus syndrome: a permanent pacemaker.
Atrioventricular conduction disturbances (aka: AV block; 1o AV block, 2o type I AV block, 2o type II AV block, 3o AV block) may result from impaired conduction in the AV node, or anywhere below it, such as in the bundle of HIS.
Patients with bradycardia have likely acquired it, as opposed to having it congenitally. Bradycardia is more common in older patients.

I've had to wear a 24 hour ECG monitor to pick up evidence of a symptomatic supra ventricular rhythm disturbance, but I do not know what this mean? Can any one help? Really not sure what supra ventricular rhythm disturbance is!!
"supraventricular" means that the rhythm originates above the ventricles, the main pumping chambers of the heart.

Symptomatic means that it causes you problems, such as dizziness, shortness of breath, etc.  (+ info)

all v-fib is life threatening, maybe you mean atrial fibrillation, that is commonly treated with a pacemaker if cardioversion is unsuccessful and the heart rate is too low.   (+ info)

I saw my cardiologist today and have been diagnosed with left ventricular hypertrophy. I'm well aware of the condition, but on the echocardiogram, it said "complete left ventricular cavity obliteration." I have no clue what that means. Can't find a thing on the web. Any clues?
LV cavity obliteration is basically what it sounds like, when the LV squeezes in systole the cavity is completely closed off. Normally the LV doesn't completely empty of blood. Depending on how severe your LVH is, that could be the cause. It could also be caused by dehydration.  (+ info)

year ago my husband suffered very much from Erectile Dysfunction too and he started trying everything you can imagine to stop Erectile Dysfunction. the things that really work is:

1) Increase your intake of L-arginine. Your body uses this amino acid to produce nitric oxide. This substance will allow for the relaxation of smooth muscle surrounding the penis' blood vessels, dilating them and increasing blood flow. This increased blood flow should encourage erections.

L-arginine can be found naturally through food such as: poultry, meat, dairy products and fish. It can also be purchased in tablet form as a supplement. However, it should be noted that high doses of L-arginine can result in stomach complaints as it increases the production of gastrin, which is the hormone responsible for producing stomach acid. If you suffer from ulcers it could exacerbate your problems, so you would be wise to steer clear of this treatment option.

2) Ginko is particularly effective in men who are suffering ED as a result of anti-depressants. Like L-arginine, it relaxes smooth muscle around the penis' blood vessels which can increase blood flow.

Treatment depends on the cause. Testosterone supplements may be used for cases due to hormonal deficiency. However, the cause is more usually lack of adequate penile blood supply as a result of damage to inner walls of blood vessels. This damage is more frequent in older men, and often associated with disease, in particular diabetes.
Treatments (with the exception of testosterone supplementation, where effective) work on a temporary basis: they enable an erection to be attained and maintained long enough for intercourse, but do not permanently improve the underlying condition. There are different treatments available

Oral Treatment
3 different tablets are currently available from the doctor and these work when there is sexual stimulation. Depending on the treatment, it will need to be taken 20 minutes to 1 hour before sex and the period of time over which it works can vary between 3 hours and up to 36 hours.
Alprostadil
This can be injected into the penis or inserted using a special applicator - usually just before sexual intercourse.
Alprostadil has also bcome available in some countries as a topical cream (under the brand name Befar), and preliminary studies have shown a clinical efficacy of up to 83%. It has an onset of action of 10-15 minutes and its effects can last over 4 hours.[citation needed]
Vacuum device

Hormone treatment
It is rare, but some men receive hormones for their erection problem. This does depend on the cause of the problem as well as other factors.
Surgery
Often, as a last resort if other treatments have failed, the most common procedure is prosthetic implants which involves the insertion of artificial rods into the penis.[26]
Counselling
Counselling is often a consideration, both where a psychological cause is suspected or must be ruled out, or to assist in management of any distress.
ED can in many cases be treated by drugs taken orally, injected, or as penile suppositories. These drugs increase the efficacy of NO, which dilates the blood vessels of corpora cavernosa. When oral drugs or suppositories fail, injections into the erectile tissue of the penile shaft are extremely effective but occasionally cause priapism. When pharmacological methods fail, a purpose-designed external vacuum pump can be used to attain erection, with a separate compression ring fitted to the penis to maintain it. These pumps should be distinguished from other "penis pumps" (supplied without compression rings) which, rather than being used for temporary treatment of impotence, are claimed to increase penis length if used frequently, or vibrate as an aid to masturbation.
More drastically, inflatable or rigid penile implants may be fitted surgically. Implants are irreversible and costly.
All these mechanical methods are based on simple principles of hydraulics and mechanics and are quite reliable, but have their disadvantages.
In a few cases there is a vascular problem which can be treated surgically.
