How do you know when your voice has changed?

I am 13 years old and my voice has been "changing" for about a year now. I understand how, why, and the reasons it changes. I'm just not sure how to tell when my voice has finished changing. Right now, I can still talk in my childhood voice, but I also noticed that about 2 months after my voice started changing, I developed a deeper voice that I could speak in and that it became increasingly difficult to speak in my normal voice. Sometimes it's really hard to talk in my kid voice and it jumps down to the low voice. I just wanted to know if my voice has already changed and I need to start speaking deep, or if I still need to wait, but it's been a year and I am soooo tired of sounding like a little kid. The thing is, my "deep" voice is REALLY deep, like I sound like someone's dad. So I don't want to sound stupid by talking in that voice before I need to. If any guys who have already gone through this would like tell me about your experience, that would be very helpful. :-)
----------

The term of "crackling your voice" or coming from your adult voice to your child voice in sudden conversations still shows that your voice hasnt fully changed. When your voice stops crackling and you normally and cant functionally on a normal basis talk like a kid, your voice has changed! It depends on different people when your voice changes. It can take up to 5 years for some males to have there voice change, and other males there voice can change completly in 3 months! It is all different, so know when you cant talk like a kid, your done with it!  (+ info)

What actually happens when you lose your voice?

I have just recently (this morning) lost my voice—basically, I can manage some pretty awful sounds—and I wasn't yelling or screaming. In fact, I have had a sore throat since yesterday and I was surprised to wake and find my voice in its present condition. I already know remedies for getting my voice back, but this has really captured my interest. I read that you can literally lose your voice, but how exactly does it happen?
----------

You start to sound a little bit like Carol Channing - depending on the circumstances, it may or may not hurt to talk - i know this because I tend to lose my voice whenever I stay away from home, it's a climate thing. It's really just something settling in your throat - phlegm will eventually flush it out, but it'll accumulate in your throat first, trust me. I'd say go for very hot tea with honey or very cold water with ice, or a mixture of both throughout the day. Literally losing your voice is pretty scary - but it doesn't last forever. At the most, a day or two. If that happens, just relax your vocal chords for a while, they'll start to feel better. Don't try talking or strain yourself to make your voice heard.  (+ info)

What are some ailments and disorders that involve the human body's nervous system?

I would like to know what disorders/ailments affect the nervous system for a biology project, and I figured this was the best place to go.
----------

I have autoimmune pernicious anaemia (unable to absorb vitamin B12 in the digestive system) which affects the nervous system as B12 is essential to maintain the myelin sheath around the nerves. If undiagnosed, it can lead to permanent paralysis, be misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease (and cause permanent Alzhemier's disease if not diagnosed in time) and MS and is fatal without treatment. Misdiagnosis is common as lab levels are far too low. I have nerve damage in my finger still from being misdiagnosed. I had to diagnose myself.

What is the difference between a voice crack and voice deepening?

Im in grade 9 and we were learning about sex ed. My teacher always seemed to say in stage 3 of puberty your voice cracks and in 4 it deepens, but honestly whats the difference? I have a high voice for someone that's 14, but I'm not sure if it cracked because people have told me that it sounds different. I am also not sure if it deepened because I can;t tell the difference between the 2.
----------

No, you do not have a high voice for a 14 year old. You happen to be a 14 year old with a high voice. I do wish you guys (and I was there) would stop all the worrying about the changes in your life.Shortly you are going to start worrying about the size of your penis or someone else's and think you might be gay. By the way, teachers are speaking in general terms, most of the time and stages that are talked about may never happen.

To your question. A voice that cracks is an obvious sound when you are speaking or singing and suddenly change the pitch of your voice. Sometimes you can even feel it. No harm. The deepening of the voice usually comes with the enlargement of the voice box, sometimes called the adams apple. Sometimes it is large and sometimes it is small. Again, no harm and don't worry. You have a lot more changes coming you will be more concerned about in another year or two. Do not, I repeat, do not let your peers embarrass you. In high school I saw senior football players in the showers who looked like they were 10. Everyone has their time. Some very fast and some very slow. Personally, in my life, I wish it were a little slower. I physically matured long before I could understand what was happening to me and it was a lot of trouble.

I wish you well in your journey of life. Enjoy it and don't ruin it by inappropriate activities.  (+ info)

What are the odds of my children inheriting these disorders?

My fiance and I were in the process of planning our wedding, when he told me his father and aunt have a seizure disorder; presumably from his paternal grandmother, because his father and aunt have different fathers. Now, my fiance also has an aunt (on his mother's side) that has Downs Syndrome. I am concerned about possibly passing something onto my future children. What are the odds of my children inheriting one or both of these disorders?
----------

Down Syndrome isn't something that is inherited, and seizure disorders rarely are. So very low.

If you really are concerned you could talk with a geneticist. But as far as I can tell, there probably is no need to.  (+ info)

How can I tell the difference between voices and my inner voice?

I hear people talking in my head. Sometimes they will repeat my thoughts, or it will be people screaming and in pain, or just saying weird things

How do I know if what I am hearing is voices or my inner voice?

I try to just not think, but that doesn't work
----------

The way you tell is that you ask yourself, is this me? I know it sounds simple, but if you think these are coming from any source other than your own, then they are voices. There is no definite way to test.  (+ info)

What are some good home remedies for voice loss?

Its not laryngitis, but I lost my voice from talking too much with a sore throat. I tried resting my voice most of yesterday, but it didn't work. I've been told that tea with honey and lemon will help, and gargling with salt water. Are there any other things that can help me get my voice back? I have to present something in school tomorrow, and I'd like to be able to talk to do it.
----------

get in a hot shower and sit in your shower and breath
honey or hot liquid  (+ info)

How to make my voice louder with more inflection?

I have a very quiet, deep, pretty much monotone voice. I can barely yell and people always have trouble hearing me. I often have to strain my voice to even talk to someone in the cafeteria.

How can I make my voice louder and have more inflection?

Why is my voice like this? I used to be very, very quiet. Could that be why? I haven't "trained" my voice or something?
----------

I have the identical problem... I am ashamed of my monotone voice. ... as a result I tend to speak softly..  (+ info)

What are some remedies to help get voice back?

Am getting over a cold and have lost my voice. Not completely, but it's getting completely gone. What are some home remedies to help speed up the process of getting my voice back and with these remedies how LONG til my voice comes back?
----------

Drink soothing drinks. Nothing will really help your larynx heal faster. You could take some NSAIDs (like ibuprofen or tylenol) which may help with the inflammation of your larynx. If your voice isn't back in a couple days then see your doctor.  (+ info)
