Hello I have just been told That I have an arachnoid cyst and that it is aggravating part of my brain causing seizures I am 26 and have never had a seizure before until the other day at a friends house who had me rushed to the hospital I was told by the doctor that some children are born with an arachnoid cyst or that it can be caused by trauma to the head and that most can go on with there lives with out a problem but that mine seems to be aggravating part of my brain witch is causing these seizures and may be the cause of some other problems I have had in the past but because of the rareness and other factors normally never gets diagnosed or found unless by accident when doing an mri or ct scan and that but sorry i am getting to in to detail here what I would please like help with is any info any one might have on this weather by experience or second hand knowledge what people with symptoms from an arachnoid cyst may expect or any other info as I am extremely scared and upset
----------

My mom, aunt, and grandma had/ have this same cyst. I'm showing the early signs of it, but I'm only 16 and haven't gotten an MRI yet. I'm pretty scared too, so I don't have much to say that would make you feel better except that I kind of know what you're going through and I hope yours isn't as intrusive as the ones my family has had. From what I know about the cyst, you are very lucky that you got diagnosed in the first place, because doctors end up treating you for things that you don't have otherwise. Some people even dismiss people who have this cyst as insane later in life, as it does harm your brain. I hope all goes well with you.  (+ info)

Are the tumors in arachnoid tumors and the ones in syringomelia cancerous by the time one has the symptoms they can bring onto one's brain and spine?

Enlarged third ventricle in my brain, colloid & arachnoid cysts?

upon doing two cat scans (one in may and one in july) they found an enlarged third ventricle where a colloid cyst resides, and arachnoid cyst is apparently hanging out in "an enlarged CSF space is noted posterior to the cerebellum"

anyone else have brain cysts? what can i expect? etc? (yes, this was posted in the alt med section too but I welcome all info from both eastern and western medicine worlds)
extra info: I am 32 and got the catscan done b/c I was getting these headaches
----------

You do not say what symptoms you were having that caused the Dr to order a CT scan and you do not mention your age. If you are over 50 you might have normal pressure hydrocephalus which is fluid pressing on the brain. If you are younger then maybe you ate some pork or other meat that was not properly cooked and you might have a parasite infection. In either case you need to follow up on this problem with your physician as brain damage can be permanent. good luck  (+ info)

Has anyone been diagnosed as having arachnoid cysts? What was done for you?

I have been diagnosed with Arachnoid cysts, and am in a lot of pain. I have an appt. with a specialist, but, it is taking a long time for that appt. to get here. I had a Ct scan and an MRI.......before the diagnosis. If anyone has had this condition worked on, I'd appreciate knowing WHAT was done.
They ARE diagnosed as being in my spine..........every little bone has those arachnoid cysts on the nerves and it does hurt, a LOT. Thank you
----------

Because you've described pain, I'm assuming the cyst is around your spina cord and not in the brain (different symptoms). The need for treatment depends largely on the size and precise location on the cyst and whether or not the cyst is causing symptoms. The neurologist will discuss this further at your consult. Newer microneurosurgical techniques and endoscopic surgical tools make it possible, with minimal invasion, to remove the membranes of the cyst or to open the cyst to allow drainage. The fluid inside the cyst seeps into surrounding cerebrospinal fluid and is absorbed

If left untreated, arachnoid cysts can cause permanent and severe neurological damage if they expand or if hemorrhage injures the brain or spinal cord. When treated, the symptoms usually resolve or improve.

Although it can sometimes take months to get in to see a specialist, use this time to organize your questions and concerns. Put them in writing. Start a list in MS Word and add to your list as questions pop into your head. Remember to print our and take your list with you and make sure that every question & concern is addressed at your visit. Be absolutely certain that you have understood what was said to you. Take notes if you need to. But don't walk out with more questions in your mind. Get explanations that you can understand.  (+ info)

I'm in need of information on Arachnoid cysts?

I was diagnosed with having an Arachnoid cysts in March of this year. I have been put on migraine medications and have been told I have nothing to worry about and just to treat the headaches and leave the cyst alone because I shouldn't have anymore other symptoms. I have found that statement to be totally untrue. I have been having intense headaches, neck pain, finding myself dazing off into space quite often , and I have increased fatigue and weakness in arms and legs. I'm confused and noticing something is wrong.

enlarged third ventricle in my brain, colloid & arachnoid cysts?

anyone else have brain cysts? what can i expect? etc? is there a natural way to treat this?
----------

no, no brain cysts here, But I did have a large cyst inside my sphenoid sinus cavity ( just below the petuitary and between it and the optic nerve. They were able to go in my sinus cavity and remove most of it. As far as resolving brain cysts, a trip to a homeopath might be useful in diminishing the size of the cyst ( s)... but per the nature of cysts they ebb and flow due to circumstances in the body. My other cysts are affected by certian foods ( caffine is a big no no for enlarging and aggrevation of cysts!)
finding out the root problem is your best bet, and homeopaths offer that kind of hope... maybe for nothing, but it sure beats brain surgery/ My best wishes, and encouragement! ( stay away from caffine!!)

Arachnoid cysts on spine, herbal help?

I saw a neurosurgeon, yesterday, who told me that I have too many arachnoid cysts on my spine to have an operation. I am in a great deal of pain, due to the cysts being large and completely covering my entire spine. Dr. suggests that I take pain pills and that's it. This is not a solution to me. Has anyone any other ideas? My mother used to use herbs for everything.
Also, the neurosurgeon and my primary doctor say I have multiple sclerosis. So, I am on Lyrica for the pain. Any ideas about that one?

Low Dose Naltrexone is being used by people with MS (and other conditions) to stop the progress of the disease. Regrettably it does not seem to work for absolutely everyone and does not give much if any improvement with existing symptoms. It does however give one a chance to try other possible solutions knowing you will not get worse as time goes on."

get a selenium supplement or buy yourself brazil nuts. Brazil nuts are high in selenium. If you are eating brazil nuts, just eat in moderate amounts morning and evening. Eat just as you do with any ordinary nuts. For selenium supplements, just take the recommended amount and work yourself up for larger/smaller dosages until you find the proper dosages that you feel is best for you.

There is some new information, which shows TMG (trimethylglycine) in helping normalize nerve disorders very helpful for MS. You should see improvements within 3 days. If not, try adding more to the dosage or switching to another supplements. However, the primary treatment for MS is very likely be selenium, TMG, and magnesium.

The key is find the proper dosage and frequency for each supplement. Once you improve, you can keep adding one by one each of the recommendation that I have made above. However, if nothing works for you, then just try this: take about 5 grams of brewer's yeast a day and eat brazil nuts every day. Therapeutic effect can be seen within 1 month. Seems to work every time (could be a statistical anomaly due to small sampling) but how well is something I cannot say.  (+ info)

I was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst yesterday, what is it and where can I find information on it?

I did click on one website arachnoidcyst.org and it scared me half to death. It even went as far as demanding parents abort their children with arachnoid cysts. I couldn't believe it. For this to be my first encounter with an arachnoid cyst site, I really am scared.
----------

An arachnoid cyst is an area in the head full of spinal fluid, it can be asymptomatic all life or depending on size and location cause symptons like seizure,
So the treatment options should be individualize, many times nothing to do other times surgery.
I imagine you got a CT or MRI, Why in the first place?  (+ info)

How arachnoid cysts affect hearing?

I didn't realize they did...They cause headaches, seizures, hydrocephalus. The increased intracranial pressure may cause developmental delay and behavioral changes. They may also cause weakness or paralysis on one side of the body and lack of muscle control.
My personal opinion is that if they are located in just the right place, they possibly could cause pressure on some part of the hearing system.  (+ info)
