What causes a neurogenic bladder and then other neuro.symptoms in a woman in her late 30's?

I am having my third implant put into my back to stimulate the area around my bladder to have the urge to urinate on my own, instead of using catheters all the time. I am also having strange weakness in my hands, legs, plus many memory issues. I fall and lose my balance all the time. Why is it so hard to get help? I feel like I am alone in this, all my health care people either have no clue or they are just sick of dealing with my issues. I try to deal with it but I also worry is this something my young adult children might develop as well as they grow.

Here is what I found on webmd that may explain the neuro problems that you are having:

Polyglucosan Body Disease, Adult
General Discussion
Adult polyglucosan body disease (APBD) is a rare, chronically progressive, metabolic disorder with severe neurological expression. It is caused by the abnormal accumulation of microscopic material (polyglucosan bodies), predominantly within the myelinated nerve fibers (motor neurons). The polyglucosan bodies are spherical and composed of large, complex, sugar-based molecules (branched polysaccharides).

The disorder typically affects both upper and lower motor neurons, resulting from nerve damage within the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) respectively. Symptoms usually begin during middle age or later and usually include muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and/or wasting of muscles (atrophy) in the arms and/or legs. Impaired bladder control (neurogenic bladder) and/or mental confusion (dementia) also occur.

Do fibriod tumors have a neg effect on neurogenic bladders condition?

I am a 35 y/o female. Desert Storm Veteran, only have access to the VA hospital system. Disabeled Veteran from spine injury that caused bladder nerve damage.
----------

I don't have any factual info on this, but just on commonsense, i would say that fibroids could indeed have a negative effect on neurogenic bladder.. I had fibroids that messed up my bladder function,so it seems likely. I would pursue the situation with the VA,,,  (+ info)

Can a brain surgery cause neurogenic bladder?

I had a left temporal lobectomy back in Nov 08. My left temporal lobe was removed because of sclerosis (scar tissue) caused by recurrent seizures (epilepsy). Since the surgery I've noticed that I haven't been urinating as much (about 3 times a day). Could my surgery have caused this?
----------

I suppose the surgery could possibly be the cause, but your doctor would be the best person to advise you or diagnose if it's possibly caused by some other medical problem.

I have bladder problems caused by damage to my left frontal lobe by a hemorrhagic stroke five years ago. At first I was totally paralized on my right side and had serious problems with urination, so much so, that I had to be catherized in order to completely empty my bladder. When I relearned walking, several months later, I began to notice decreased sensation on my right side as well as being unable to tell when I needed to urinate. For example, if I sat for long periods, especially if I sat on the ground with my legs out-streteched, I didn't even think about needing to go but when I got up, I had great difficulty making it to the bathroom in time. At night, I would wake and not know what had caused me to awaken, but I suppose it was because my bladder was so full that it caused pressure on other organs in my abdomen. So it seems that my stroke damaged the nerves going to my bladder. I have learned to not sit so long at one time and go to the bathroom more frequently, but I often have to consciously try to relax my bladder in order to urinate. You might try doing that too, perhaps it will help..  (+ info)

Is there any good research centre in India where I can consult for my neurogenic problem?

I am looking for a good research centre where I can go and put my problem of distal myopathy in India.
----------

plese describe distal myopathy....any neurogenic problem can be cured with right food and right drinks...follow this method for one month...
when the body is having a disease, the patient should not be given a nutritious food... he should be asked to fast for 7 or 10 day... but he can take unlimited fruits(not sweet) and uncooked vegetables... this is also called semi-fasting method...during semi-fasting, the bodies energies will be conserved to fight and throw out the disease...that is why , patients are asked to stop so many negative foods ...all high nutritious foods are negative foods for sick people...

sages consider water and uncooked vegetables as gods...by taking daily ,2 or three coldwater headbaths, you will be incresing your disease... yes, you are correct... by increasing or aggravating the disease, we can throw out the disease...
a person requires so much culture and intelligence, to understand the basic principles of holistic healing ... this is part of yoga and spirituality...this is great indian science...
i am telling you about indian thinking, which the new generation has forgotten or is ignorant of culture...though this is called hindu thinking , these methods are prevalent in china, egypt japan, and east asia...
that is why , i am doing this service to sick people in yahoo and otherwise, to awaken people of their slumber...this is great Hindu method, which does not require any expenditure to cure any type of disease...write [email protected]

holistic healing method may take 20 or more days....
you should avoid
`1. all milk products, namely milk,curd,buttermilk(chas-hindi),tea,cof… for two months..
2...you should avoid all sweets made of sugar, gur,honey...
3...you should avoid all sweet fruits for one month(mango, sapota, papaya, etc)and cool drinks.
4...you can take all wheat and rice preparations, ragi java,...

I also would like to know what is an IVP>
----------

An IVP is an x-ray study of your kidneys, ureters and bladder. The following sites describe the procedure quite accurately:

http://www.radiologyinfo.org/content/ivp_radiology.htm

http://www.radiologychannel.net/intravenouspyelogram/

Patients diagnosed neurogenic bladder usually don’t totally recover. However, appropriate treatment may produce excellent results. Distinguishing between the hypotonic and the spastic neurogenic bladder is important because these conditions are treated differently. A patient diagnosed with neurogenic bladder will need continued monitoring for urinary tract infections and kidney function.

http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/no/neurogenicbladder.htm

Treatment may include:

*insertion of a catheter or hollow tube (to empty the bladder at regular intervals)
*prophylactic (preventive) antibiotic therapy (to reduce the incidence of infection)
*placement of an artificial sphincter - a procedure that involves placing an artificial cuff around the neck of the bladder that can be inflated to prevent urinary incontinence and deflated when it is time to empty the bladder. You will still require intermittent catheterization to completely empty the bladder.
*surgery

George,

I'm so sorry that you feel that way. I've done a little research, and although most of the treatmetn sites are conventional, you can go through them and get a lot more insight that I can provide here. I hope someone else can come through and recommend something more to your liking as well.

Can bilateral facet arthropathy at L4-5 and L5-S1 be caused by a fall?

More details:
The person who fell was 69 yrs old and overweight. She had no back problems before this fall and could walk without problems and had lots of energy. Since the fall she has back and neck pain and occasional headaches. She seems to take more naps during the day then she used to and cannot stand or walk as long as she could prior to the fall.

Any further information anyone can give would be helpful, thanks.
