what types of blood disorders/complications could arise for a person who has liver disease?

i was curious about this. could you please explain
----------

When the cells of the liver die off, scar tissue
forms inside the liver that blocks the flow
of blood through the liver on its way back to
the heart and also, to the other liver cells and
they continue to die off.

All blood from the abdominal area, including
the intestines, goes to the liver through the
Portal Vein. Now, the blood is blocked,
so it backs up into this vein and causes pressure,
known as Portal Hypertension. It also backs
up into smaller vessels not used to handling
this amount of blood, known as Varies
(varicose veins). They are usually found
in the esophagus, rectal, and belly button
areas. These vessels can have weak
spots and balloon outward in places and
break open. It is a very serious emergency
as the patient can bleed out completely or
bleed internally. This bleeding is mostly
stopped by a endoscopic procedure where
they band them...something like placing
a rubber band over the tip of your finger.

The blood can also back up into the Spleen
and cause the spleen to enlarge in size.
The spleen can then trap the Platelets in
it and the liver patient will show a decrease
of platelets on their blood tests results.

The liver isn't able to make the clotting
factors efficiently anymore or almost not at all.
These help the blood to clot...so a decrease
in them can cause a patient to easily bleed
and bruise.

Some patients are placed on steriods for
their liver problems and even after the
transplant operations. These steriods can
have an effect that deplete bone mass...
known as osteopenia. Sometimes it
can effect the production of the red
blood cells and the patient may have to
be placed on Procrit or Epogen, etc. to
try and raise the amount of erythropoeitin
in the bone marrow to produce more.

All liver patients are at a greater risk of
cancer, including lymphoma.

Transplant patients are on immune suppressive
drugs. Their white cells counts have to stay
within certain levels so they don't fight off
the new organ. However, some of the
transplant drugs and intravenous medications have a known effect of reducing the white cells to dangerous levels. These can be brought
back up with the use of products like
Neupogen.

A Transplant patient is watched very closely
to the effects of any drugs taken and
changing are made to be sure of their
survival.  (+ info)

Apart from lung disorders what else can cause low blood oxygen ?

either respiratory or cardiovascular problems.
in terms of cardiovascular, shunting can cause it.
mainly right to left shunt.
basically, oxygenated blood does not mix with deoxygenated blood.
however, if u have cardiac defect such as septal defect or
tetralogy of fallot or others, right sided blood can mix with left
sided blood. right is deoxygenated and left is oxygenated.

of course, with septal defects, initially u get a left to right shunt because left side heart muscle stronger than right.
with time, right side muscle hypertrophies or enlarges and
become stronger than left and u get
reverse (right to left) shunting.
this is called eisenmenger syndrome.
pulmonary emboli can also cause decreased oxygenation.  (+ info)

Why do patients with liver diseases commonly develop blood-clotting disorders

Because the process of blood clotting is a cascade of reactions between different clotting factors, which are mostly proteins made in the liver. Advanced liver disease means less ability to make these proteins, which means the blood takes a long time to clot.   (+ info)

can stress or any depression disorders cause your blood count to jump or increase little by little?

To the best of my knowledge and experience it is not a common response to anxiety or depression. BUT the our state of mind can cause or excellerate many kinds of "true" illnesses. Our all 'round state of being depends on 3 main areas of our selves; Mental, Spiritual, and Physical. They all work together. If one gets into to trouble the others suffer also. hope this helped JANA.  (+ info)

Does prolong use of quinine sulfate cause blood disorders? Used over 15 years?

Platelette count ranges from 43,000 to 67,000. Avg. of 50,000
Need back surgery. Physcians will not do surgery.
Could quinine sulfate cause spleen to enlarge? Possible ITP.
----------

Well, I don't know the answers to all those questions, but I know that Quinine is used for malaria attacks and my brother used it whenever he had an attack for years. I understand that there is now a cure for malaria (not sure, I only heard it once).
I don't know what your condition is, or how your platelet count would relate to needing back surgery. If your doctor(s) won't do it, I assume that they have determined that you don't need it or it is contraindicated by your other condition(s).
Do you maybe just have some vertebrae out of place and need a Chiropractic adjustment? Have you had X-Rays or any tests to determine what your back problem is? I assume that if you have a kidney infection, the doctors would have found it.
Here is something I found on platelet count. This makes it sound as if yours is extremely low, unless you left out a zero. If it is truly that low compared to the normal range shown below, that sounds as if you may have a problem with your immune system.

Normal results. The normal range for a platelet count is 150000-450000 platelets per microliter of blood. Abnormal results. An abnormally low platelet level ...

For the enlarged spleen, here is what the Mayo Clinic shows:

Here is a site for the quinine sulfate usage. It sounds as if you have been taking it continuously for 15 years.
