I'm totally against animal testing but I'm doing this project and I have to take an unbiased view... but no one seems to want to tell me how certain diseases have been cured. Do you know any diseases (brain and body) that have been cured due to animal testing? Please provide sources so I can check it out myself.
In 1937 the US government required that all drugs to be used by humans must be tested on animals first. other countries soon followed suit. So the simple answer is any disease that has been cured since 1937. 2) What would make you more prone to resp diseases: high or low metabolic rates?

Questions 2 and 3 are different in a way that in 2 i'm asking the metabolic rate that would make you prone to resp disease and in 3 i'm asking the resp diseases that would change/affect your metabolic rate
I don't know the answers to all the questions but I do have one for 3.
3. Cystic Fibrosis affects the metabolic rate because since the digestive system is not normal, malnutrition can occur. Also with the lungs having to work extra hard (such as exercising or even just living with damaged lungs) more calories are burned without extra activity. People who have CF need 110 to 200% more calories than the average child and adult.  (+ info)

Prion diseases OR "transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs)" are a family of rare progressive neurodegenerative disorders that affect both humans and animals. The causative agent of TSEs is believed to be a prion. Well, your question is very vague. Its like asking how many hairs are there in the head of an average person. The brain, like any other body parts can be affected by lots of conditions. However, let me try to generalized things for you.

The brain could get infections (bacterial, viral,fungal, etc.). Brain stroke which is a disease of the blood vessels in the brain could also get affected. Trauma to the head could produce brain damage. Certain drugs also predispose to some conditions in the brain. In addition to these, several general medical conditions such as diabetes, old age, degenerative nerve diseases, hypertension, cardiac problems, etc. can affect the brain.  (+ info)

There are many conditions and diseases that can cause this.

If there are 3 brain diseases that can only be cured by surgery if there are less name them if all can be cured without the use of surgery please state that. Describe all the diseases listed THANK YOU
Most any vascular disease, malignant tumor, benign growth (vascular and non-vascular) and neurological disorder I can think of that would be treated surgically would also be treated with focal or whole brain radiotherapy, medications, chemotherapy... and I can only think of two exceptions to that given our constant attempts at less invasive procedures

Hydrocephalus. The only treatment I know of for that is implanting a shunt.

Moyamoya Disease... I know of no non-surgical treatment for that either.

I can't come up with a third... sorry :(

Edit: It should be noted that the Chiari malformation is generally what causes (or at least accompanies) hydrocephalus... so I'm not sure this would count as two separate disorders, especially if this is like... Neurosurgery homework or MCAT question - lol  (+ info)
