Is there any truth in the views of some neurosurgeons that all behavioural disorders related to brain only?

Some neuro surgeons argue that all mental diseases like depression, psychoses, neurosis and other psychological disorders are due to some problems in brain only but no where related to mind.
In India, most of the neurosurgeons think they can cure all psychiatric disorders and seldom refer patients to psychiatrists.
----------

I agreed to some degree, but many behavioural disorders are also defined by the culture in which one lives, socio economic status and roles that have to be assumed. Psychic trauma i.e behavioral disorders can ;also be the product of physical and mental cruelty. None the less there can be changes in the cerebral make up, as a result of depression, and even as a result of positive response to treatment, so the problem is a complex one. However it is not correct to ascribe single symptoms or etiology for behaviour disorders to unitary causation  (+ info)

Does anyone know anything about what type of diseases you can get from eating raw pork?

My father has been diagnosed with having Lemis (not sure if that is the correct spelling- sorry) from what i understand it is a type of parasite that you get from eating raw pork, he has had this parasite for over 30 yrs, i guess over the years the parasite has died but it left scar tissue on his brain, which has been causing him to have blackouts from time to time. Does anyone know anything about this condition?
He did'nt intentionally eat the pork knowing it was raw.
----------

I'm afraid that I know nothing of his condition but I am incredibly curious as to why he was eating raw pork? Raw - or improperly cooked - pork or chicken is capable of spreading a plethora of incurable and potentially fatal diseases.

I think that if you do require further information about your father's condition you would be far better consulting a registered medical practitioner rather than requesting clarification on this site.

I wish you and him the very best.   (+ info)

Yes, maybe all Infectious Disease specialists are diagnosticians...but someone I know who is a doctor says that although the medicine on House is generally accurate, they have never heard of "Department of Diagnostic Medicine".

How serious is getting a swollen brain from Behcet's Disease? Will my brother be able to wake up?

How serious is getting a swollen brain from Behcet's Disease? My brother had a swollen brain after vomiting/fainting out of nowhere. He got surgery and after, doctors purposely put his brain to sleep (induced coma? I think). Doctors found out that what he has is Bechet's Disease. Is this disease serious? Will my brother be able to wake up? Will doctors wake him up?
----------

Behçet's disease is an autoimmune disease that results from damage to blood vessels throughout the body, particularly veins. In an autoimmune disease, the immune system attacks and harms the bodies' own tissues. The exact cause of Behçet's disease is unknown. Most symptoms of the disease are caused by vasculitis (an inflammation of the blood vessels). Inflammation is a characteristic reaction of the body to injury or disease and is marked by four signs: swelling, redness, heat, and pain. Doctors think that an autoimmune reaction may cause the blood vessels to become inflamed, but they do not know what triggers this reaction. Under normal conditions, the immune system protects the body from diseases and infections by killing harmful "foreign" substances, such as germs, that enter the body. In an autoimmune reaction, the immune system mistakenly attacks and harms the body's own tissues. Behçet's disease is not contagious; it is not spread from one person to another. Behçet's disease affects each person differently. The four most common symptoms (as listed) are mouth sores, genital sores, inflammation inside of the eye, and skin problems. Inflammation inside of the eye (uveitis, retinitis, and iritis) occurs in more that half of those with Behçet's disease and can cause blurred vision, pain, and redness. Other symptoms may include arthritis, blood clots, and inflammation in the central nervous system and digestive organs.
