What is the treatment for mad cow disease (bovine spongiform encephalaphothy)?

Doing a report for anatomy, and my resources are limited. Any help?
----------

There is no effective treatment. Since it can remain dormant for many years, it can also be difficult to diagnose. A friend of mine's sister died of mad cow(can't remember the term for the human form of it) In florida, she lived. But the doctors or the family weren't allowed to publicise it because the US government didn't want everyone to know that mad cow was in the US. Needless to say, I'm now a vegetarian. If you need more info, wikipedia.com could probably answer any more questions you have.  (+ info)

I have a bovine aortic valve, but would like to find out the more info on the situation with pregnancy?

My doctor said I should not have children. But I would like to talk with women who have and have survived the pregnancy.
----------

I'm sorry...I can't answer your question for you. I just wanted to say this is one of the most interesting questions I've read on here in a LONG time! Just curious...why did your doctor tell you no? If a bovine valve was similar enough to a human's that they could transplant it, why is your dr. suggesting you not get pregnant? What did he say could come of it? Is the valve slightly narrower than a human av, and would restrict blood flow or what? I do know that when you're pregnant, your body actually manufacturers more blood...I think like 80% more or something (sorry...can't remember the specific numbers!) so maybe this extra blood would put too much pressure on the valve? Very interesting question...thanks!  (+ info)

Are bovine colostrum supplements safe to take during pregnancy and/or lactation?

Please advise regarding the benefits and risks of this supplement. I've only heard about it on the market for the last few years, but was it in use before this? What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking it in powdered form versus raw liquid?

Thank you!
And, I've heard that dried colostrum that has been dried by using heat destroys many of the health benefits. But, what about when you take the raw, unpasteurized colostrum (like, the straight from the cow kind--but bottled). Can you heat that up and drink it warm?
----------

Colustrum was previously used for the treatment of diarrhoea. However, because it contains so many beneficial substances, it has recently been recommended for diverse purposes including lowering blood cholesterol levels and body fat, treatment of Alzheimer's and regulation of blood glucose levels. Taking the raw liquid means you have the advantage of getting living immune cells and immunoglobulins that would otherwise be destroyed by heat. it does put you at risk of getting any disease the cow may have e.g. bovine tuberculosis. I would not risk taking either form during preg or lactation.  (+ info)

Is gelatin made form “vertebrae-free bovine bones" considered kosher?

I have been asked to claim a product made from “gelatin from vertebrae-free bovine bones" is kosher but I don't know how to respond.
Any thoughts?
----------

I think that you're being asked to engage in fraud. Without the kosher certification (look for a K or a U with a circle around it) you just have no way of knowing whether a shochet (kosher butcher) ever saw the animal, how it was slaughtered (this must be done with one stroke of the knife), if the blood was properly washed away before it has a chance to clot, the washing being done in a container that had never come into contact with anything that had ever come into contact with any dairy food ...

There is much to assume, and given the increase in demand that the certification of rabbinical supervision would give the product, al least some of the assumptions probably wouldn't be true. Who would go to the added expense of producing a kosher product, and then throw away the marketing benefit of his expenditure? That would seem a crazy thing to do.  (+ info)

What is "bovine adrenal Cytosol extract" (in Cyruta Plus)?

It is listed on the label of a supplement: Standard Process - Cyruta Plus .. Can anybody tell me what is bovine adrenal Cytosol extract ?
----------

You'll find the bovine adrenal Cytosol extract is in much of Standard Process products and a cornerstone of their items. The Cyruta will be for your circulation etc but often the bovine adrenal Cytosol extract is added for a synergistic effect. The amount in Cyruta is not that much but it serves to support adrenal function which is going to help your endocrine system and ultimately your the way your body will regulate your blood pressure.  (+ info)
