Does everyone eventually accumulate calculus on their teeth that needs to be cleaned by dentist?

Over the years, it seems to me that no matter how much i brushed, flossed, mouthwashed, etc. i still have calculus on my bottom teeth by the time i see the dentist next. Does everyone have calculus? what about receding gum lines?
----------

Calculus or tartar is a salt of calcium and phosphorous that come from your salivary glands. It commonly deposits on the teeth near the places where the glands empty into your mouth. That's why you see a lot on the tongue side of your lower teeth. It probably also deposits on the cheek side of your upper molars.

The amount of deposit is different for everybody

You really can't tackle it with a tooth brush totally. There are mouth rinses that help dissolve it, but removal by a Dental hygienist is the most effective. By the way, a good cleaning should take 45 min or more. If your Dental office is doing a 10 or 15 min cleaning with a vibrating tool (ultrasonic scaler) find another professional.

Also if you're a person who gets heavy deposits your hygienist should see you more often than 2 times a year. Don't let insurance companies dictate your dental treatment. They do not have your health in mind, but their income.  (+ info)

Is it possible to safely remove tartar (calculus) from your teeth without visiting a dentist?

I have tartar on the back of my bottom teeth and want to get rid of it but I don't currently have a dentist and am on a low income. Are there any ways to safely remove tartar?
----------

If you go to a local drug store you should be able to find a metal dental pick. It should only cost you a max of $10. Than I would use it to scrape off all of the built up tartar. But remember there is no substitution for seeing your dentist.

kidney stones or renal calculi?

I want to know is laser technique used for breaking kidney stones safe?
Any other treatment for kidney stones?
Do kidney stones lead to total renal failure or renal failure is due to other reasons as well?
please help.
----------

the laser treatment is very safe, but like any other procedure it has risks which your doctor can explain to you...only other treatment for stones would be soundwave that break them up and just letting them pass naturally which is painful until they pass...stones themsleves dont lead to failure..that is something totally different and can be too complicated to explain here  (+ info)

i hav bilateral multi renal calculi, what precautions should i take while taking food containing calcium,mg etc?

Drink plenty of water. 2 to 4 ltrs of water every day.
Contrary to the belief, Oxalates are 15 times more responsible than calcium to form stones.Normally, in the gut, calcium binds with oxalate and is excreted through stool. So, dont decrease calcium in your diet. Calcium is protective and useful in various ways in our body.

So milk, cheese, orange juice is very suitable for you.
Avoid beans, nuts, dark grren leafy vegetables. Dont take too much of it.

Why are some more prone to getting calculus (tartar) on teeth than others?

I have a somewhat amount of calculus behind my bottom incisors
and like very minute calculus on the front of my bottom incisors, I brush thoroughly, floss, and use mouth wash and I still get calculus.. where as my brother doesn't floss at all and brushes really quickly and seems to be calculus free?
----------

TOM,
TARTAR IS JUST CALCIFIED PLAQUE.
IF YOU FAIL TO BRUSH AND FLOSS PROPERLY TARTAR WILL FORM.
PS. THE DUCTS FOR THE SALIVARY GLAND DIRECTLY OPPOSE THE INNER PARTS OF THE LOWER FRONT TEETH  (+ info)

What does this mean off my CT Scan of my Kidneys and bladder?

1. Nonobstructing 4.5 x 5.8 mm stone at the right ureteropelvic
junction.
2. There are 4 mm inferior left kidney, 2 mm posterior mid left
kidney and left kidney lower pole 1-2 mm calyceal calculi.
----------

You have a kidney stone on the right side between the ureter and the bladder.
You have three kidneys stones on the left side: one toward the top of the kidney, one toward the middle kidney, and one in the lower part of the kidney in the tiny little "hallways" called calices .
None of them are obstructing which is good or you would have serious pain. You will probably need the right one treated. The others could stay there in the left kidney for a long time but may need treatment later too. You should be drinking AT LEAST 100 ounces of fluid per day; up to 2 liters of fluid per day when you are actively trying to pass a stone. Does not have to be all water; but not all the SAME thing either.  (+ info)

Does the hydro floss machine actually helps prevent calculus from forming?

My dentist has been telling me that I have a lot of calculus on my teeth and I know I need to floss and brush my teeth better but Im wondering if this machine is really worth of buying.
----------

THIS MACHINE WILL HELP IN REMOVING SOFT PLAQUE FROM TEETH THAT FORMS INTO HARD CALCULUS. A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING BEFORE THIS MACHINE MUST BE DONE.  (+ info)

no definite radioopaque calculi noted in kub region ?

medical repport.the bowel is suboptimal
----------

KUB region means Kidneys, ureters and bladder.
Urinary calculi are solid particles in the urinary system. They may cause pain, nausea, vomiting, hematuria, and, possibly, chills and fever from secondary infection. Diagnosis is based on urinalysis and radiologic imaging, usually noncontrast helical CT. Treatment is with analgesics, antibiotics for infection, and, sometimes, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy or endoscopic procedures.
Consult your doctor or an Urologist.  (+ info)

Is there a problem with coloring in a Blues Clues coloring book during Advanced Calculus?

Coloring during a college class- but you understand the material completely and you really only came because it's a nice setting and is air conditioned.
----------

NO! Moon is absolutely wrong on this one. Its actually healthy and helps you learn better!

Coloring is an activity that is therapeutic for the brain and helps us calm and center ourselves. this is because the motion of our hands and eyes help connect the two halves making us calmer and more receptive to learning.
Especially if you are a kinesthetic learner (learn by doing), having something to do with your hands can help you learn better. I recommend this to many of my patients. Studies have shown that people who doodle pay BETTER attention than people who dont. I colored all the way through my master's program and got 4.0 GPA accumulative, so dont stress it and color!!
PS they sell really cool intricate coloring books for adults in book and game stores, if you're interested.  (+ info)
