Any tips for helping my babies colic please?

My baby boy is 6 weeks old this Wednesday. For the last 2 weeks his colic has got gradually worse, despite using anti colic bottles and using infacol or gripe water. Through the day he is so content, but at 6 pm on the dot he starts grizzling and this develops into inconsolable crying until at least 11pm. Then he has his midnight feed and everything goes back to normal?! How long did colic last in your experience and what worked for your baby? Thanks.

Every child is different but here is my story. My baby is now 15 weeks and I went through this from around 3 weeks. We tried Infocol but he screamed so much when we gave it to him, he put more air in his stomach. When he got older we tried gripe water too, it worked for a while then it came back. The best advice I can give is to massage his to stomach in a circular motion with 2 fingers clockwise, then pump his legs. Hold his ankles and then push he leg up bending his knees so they touch his stomach and his feet are next to his bum. Do this around 20 times. At first he will be stiff, but he will soon get use to it. I done this everytime I changed him and it made a real difference. He still some has problems sometime and I do the same thing and he actually passes wind whilst I'm doing this. I really hope this helps as I know what your going through.  (+ info)

How to tell if it is really colic?

My 4 wk old daughter is very fussy. The dr changed her formula to Alimentum because she said she has colic behavior. Well from what I've read about colic, the babies usually cry around the same times every day. My baby has some days were she won't fuss at all and then some days she fusses off and on all day. Like yesterday she cried from 2:30pm until 7pm and then again from 3am until 8am this morning. But some days she will cry from 9-11pm and some days not at all. Does anyone think this is symptomatic of colic or could there be some other issue? I give her mylicon drops and sometimes they work and sometimes not.
----------

Colic is defined as unexplained crying for at least 3 hours a day, 3 days a week for at least 3 weeks. If that describes your daughter, then, yes, she has colic.

Does she cry even when you hold her and nurse her? Then it's *not* colic; it's loneliness. Colic is *always* crying for no obvious reason.  (+ info)

What are the best bottles for reducing colic?

My son is 4 1/2 months old, and is quite the fussy one! Sometimes I wonder if he's colicy. Anyway, I bought those Playtex bottles with the drop in bags, because I heard that those were good. I don't know if it's the nipple or what, but he doesn't seem to like these new bottles.

What do you think are the best bottles for reducing colic?

my daughter had colic when she was a baby, and Dr. Brown bottles work great for us, but they are a pain to wash (due to the small pieces it come with ...) but worth a try if u have a colicky baby.  (+ info)

How do I tell if my 7week old has colic?

Ive been told because she sucks down her bottle so fast that is colic. Some times she is just so fussy nothing calms her down. But they said if was colic that she would being screaming all the time every day if was. I hope it isint, how do I tell if it is colic?
----------

one way to check if baby is crying because of being colic-- try calming her by making her lay on support of stomach. keep masaging her back, means spine bones, if this soothes her pain it means she is crying because of colic pain. this trick is also useful when you do not have medicine handy, while infant is having colic pain as it calms her and termporary relieves her from pain.  (+ info)

What is the best formula for a newborn with colic?

My baby is 3 weeks old and has colic and I want to know what is the best and maybe the least expensive formula I can give him, I give him gas drop. I don't know if it is just gas he has or if it actualy a milk protien allergy.
----------

I had to give my son soy formula, and I found that Walmart's Parent's Choice Soy with ARA/DHA he liked better than the more expensive ones, and he spit up less with this one too.  (+ info)

Can my baby have colic even though he usually stops crying when he is picked up?

He is 8 weeks old tomorrow. Usually picking him up will calm him down and/or stop the crying, but when putting him down again he screaaaaaaaaams the place down!

So can he be suffering from colic even though sometimes he will stop crying when picked up?
----------

Sounds like a normal baby. They want to be held a lot. Much more than most parents expect (I know that was true for me!) Colic is inconsolable crying with no known cause.  (+ info)

How long would it take to see an improvement in colic in my baby from switching formulas?

I just switched my son from Similac advance to Similac Sensitive 24 hours ago. He seems a little better but not much yet. How long does it take to see the benefits from swithing if this formula is working to calm his colic?
The Similac Sensitive is lactose free and I'm trying it. At this point I'll try anything.
----------

Every child is different. It should only take a day or two to get the old formula out of his system, but then some babies need time to adjust to new formula. I could give my oldest any formula that was on sale without a problem...lol. However, my youngest had to adjust to new formula. But similac sensitive didn't help the problem. I had to switch her to enfamil. Also, from working in daycare, often times the formula is not the problem...sometimes switching the bottle he uses works. Also, some parents would cut huge holes in the nipples of the bottles which can cause a lot of air intake...but I would wait a few days and then ask your doctor. He could tell you best!  (+ info)

How do I deal with a colic baby?

I feel so bad for my son, he has colic. And I knwo his little tummy hurts, he has gas bad. I give him gentle ease Enfamil formula and Mylicon gas drops. And I swaddle him and rock him to sleep with his pacifier. Oh and change his diaper. And sometimes that still isn't enough. HELP!
----------

I know EXACTLY how you feel. My son was the same way. Unfortunately the gentel ease wasn't around until my newest daughter...which helped imensely with her. But with my son, I had to use the Alimentum, Mylecon drops and I had to do this little motion with him to force some air bubbles out of his little tummy.

What you do is:
1. Lay baby flat on back on floor legs facing you
2. Grab baby's legs at ankels
3. Push babys legs together at knees and slowly motion upwards twords tummy.
4. When babys butt is up in the air a little, pull knees apart, and pull down to straight possition.
5. Repeat motion

It helped A LOT!!  (+ info)

At what age do I stop using the anti colic feeding bottle?

Just wondered if I can stop using my anti colic feeding bottle now that my baby is 5 month old?
----------

There is not a specific age for you to stop using the bottles, however most babies outgrow the colic phase by 3-6 months. It will not hurt your baby by any means. If you really want to go to regular bottles try the playtex nurser, they worked the best for me. My daughter had severe stress gastritis and colic, and I found that just a drop of peppermint to her bottles or on your breast if breast feeding will soothe their little stomachs. The scariest thing about being a parent is not knowing when to try, but you wont hurt your little one, so try and if fails, just go back to the colic bottles. Good Luck.  (+ info)
