What is a Mucinous Cystadenoma?

I know that ovarian tumors are are common to be this, but please don't relate this to that matter because I just need to know what it is. (I am doing a summer assignment for my Pathophysiology class and I need to write down unfamiliar terms and definitions) Any information is great. Thanks!
----------

mucinous cystadenoma a multilocular, usually benign, tumor produced by ovarian epithelial cells and having mucin-filled cavities.
papillary cystadenoma
1. any tumor producing patterns that are both papillary and cystic.
2. a type of adenoma in which the acini are distended by fluids or outgrowths of tissue.

Ovarian cysts/mucinous cystadenoma ?

About six months ago I went to the ER and they did a cat-scan on my belly and found a HUGE cyst on my left ovary. While the cyst doesn't cause me any pain it is uncomfortable and needs to be removed.
I've been doing some research on it and from what I have read it's an unusually large type of ovarian cyst. There is a 70% chance of that the cyst is benign and just basically filled with a mucus-like fluid. My OB ran some blood tests to check for cancer and the results all came back negative so I am praying once the cyst is out and sent to the pathologist it will also come back benign. So my question is...has anybody on ever been diagnosed with this type of cyst?

EDIT: I guess I should give a little more detail. My OB asked how my appitite was, as many women who have such large cysts aren't able to eat much. Let me tell you that is NOT the case with me...I eat like a freakin' PIG! Since I don't want to have kids (not a phase, I've known since I was a teenager I don't want kids) my doctor asked how I would feel if they had to do a hestorectomy and I said go for it. Also, because my left ovary is probably damaged, they are going to remove that and possibly my right ovary. Isn't it so weird how such a large cyst can grow inside us?
MORE EDITS: The sh*tty thing is that they can't do laproscopic because of the size of my cyst so they have to cut me wide open. But as long as they get it out, it doesn't matter to me what they gotta do, ya know?
----------

I had the same thing. Cysts on both ovaries though. They did a laproscopic surgery to remove them, and they ended up being filled with old blood and mucus. Gross I know. The tests came out negative before hand, and after. You have nothing to worry about, and you're lucky that it's not painful! You'll be fine, and it's better to take care of now than to wait. You never know what something can turn into.  (+ info)

does anyone no someone who has or had mucinous cystadenocarcinoma starting in the appendix ?

My dad was diagnosed with mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the appendix. It wasn't discovered until they did surgery. It had spread to the colon, of which they removed half, 16 lymph nodes were taken out and were cancerous, a portion of muscle and a nodule on his peritoneum. It is staged at a 3. I was wondering if the folfox treatment was good and what outcomes how ppl u know have done with this type of cancer. thx, tammy
----------

My husband was diagnosed January 2007 with mucinous adenocarcinoma, primary appendix, also only found on surgery for suspected appendicitis. Also stage 3.

Having cancer start in the appendix is not very common, but it's treated as colon cancer, where there is plenty of information and research.

FOLFOX (oxaliplatin + 5FU) is the standard treatment and so far they have not found anything better, though there are trials adding Avastin to the mix. One alternative chemo uses the tablet form of 5FU (capecitabine) instead of the IV form. This has proved similarly effective as the IV form, but is less hassle for the patient (only a short IV for the oxaliplatin).

Husband has been clear since the end of his chemo July 2007 :-)

Good luck to your father and to you/family as you go through this tough time. Feel free to email through Y!Answers   (+ info)

What is Inductoral Mucinous Papillary Pancreatic Neoplasm?

I think what you mean is actually called an intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm. This is a tumor that is usually benign (won't spread) and secretes large amounts of mucin (a sticky, watery secretion) into the intestine.  (+ info)

please anyone with information on mucinous adenocarcinoma cancer...?

My grandmother has mucinous adenocarcinoma of a unknown primary site. The doctors aren't running any tests and say she won't make it through the night.. anyone with any information please tell me what I can/should do?
----------

Sorry to hear about your grandmother's condition. Apparently her cancer has spread to multiple areas inside her. There are a lot of times, with cancer, that Drs. try to weigh the risk vs. benefit of further treatment to provide whatever further "quality of life" they can give the patient. Sometimes the cancer, in this case a very difficult and aggressive type of cell, is impossible to remove when it is attached to vital organs which if removed would cause death. Other times the result of removing the cancer leaves the patient much more dependent on others and can infringe on their privacy and modesty (such as that associated with colostomy or urostomy surgery). If her time is short, just comfort her and know she will be without pain soon and tell her you love her. She will be calm and quiet when it is her time. No one really knows exactly when one's time is up, but the Drs. will have a fairly accurate idea. Make sure you say loving things around her as she will still be able to hear conversations when she appears asleep. She is very lucky to have a granddaughter who cares.  (+ info)

Mucinous Carcinoma (aka colloid) breast cancer?

Has anyone had first hand experience with Mucinous Carcinoma (aka colloid) breast cancer?

If so, can you tell me what you know about it? I have looked it up on the web, but since it is so rare, there are few in depth articles about it.
My friend's wife was diagnosed with it today and he asked me if I could help them research it.
----------

well this is the type of carcinoma that has better prognosis that the usual ductal or lobular carcinoma. proper treatment should cure it if diagnosis is made in early stage.  (+ info)
