Dermoid Cyst?

When i was pregnant i went for a scan and the lady said that i had a dermoid cyst, is this really bad? and will it lower my chances of trying for a baby as i miscarried that baby?
The dermoid cyst is on my ovary
----------

some people have dermoid cyst when they are pregnant but they can sometimes go away during the pregnancy. However that does not always happen. I had a dermoid cyst on my right ovary by the time i got into hospital (about 3wks later) it had spread all over my ovary and down my tube. I had to have that ovary and tube removed. Please make an appointment with your doctor and keep an eye on it.  (+ info)

What is recovery time for laparotomy to remove a dermoid cyst?

Anyone have personal experience in recovery time from a laparotomy? It is for removal of a large dermoid ovarian cyst. Doctor is predicting 6 weeks off work, but I'm hoping it won't take that long! Laparoscopy isn't an option unfortunately.
----------

6 weeks sounds reasonable. You might be able to go back after 4 weeks if you have a desk job.  (+ info)

I know a person who has Dermoid Cyst but she doesn't know what to do. What would be the better move to get the cyst out of her uterus? If she undergoes surgery, what are the chances of it having a positive outcome?

Is it safe to have sex if you have a dermoid ovarian cyst?

I have a dermoid cyst that I am going to soon have removed. Fortunately, it is benign. I was wondering if it would be okay to still have sex as long as i am not in pain... or would having sex cause this cyst to rupture or have other complications? i have googled this quite a lot and I can't seem to find an answer.
----------

no, you will not rupture the cyst with sex, use protection.  (+ info)

Can I get pregnant with only one ovary which has a dermoid cyst in it and endometriosis?

I found out that I had a dermoid cyst back in June. My doctor tried to get it out through a laparoscopy surgery. But instead she found out that I only have my left ovary which is 5cm because of that cyst. She also saw that I have endometriosis. She told me my case is very complicated and she sent me to see another specialist. Can I can get pregnant with one ovary that has a dermoid cyst in it and endometriosis?
I want to have kids. Please help me!
----------

If you ovulate and the egg makes it to the fallopian tube, then you can become pregnant. The endometriosis reduces the chance, but does not eliminate it. Do not read too much into this. Continue to seek medical advice from professionals. Don't get your hopes up or let down without more information. Possibility and likelihood are not the same. Do not confuse the two with each other.  (+ info)

Have you or someone u know had a ovarian dermoid cyst? If so what r the symptoms? How fast did it grow?

I was diagnosed with a 5mm dermoid.
----------

A dermoid, or mature teratoma, is a benign type of ovarian tumor. Dermoids are common, constituting about one-third of all benign ovarian tumors. They are often found in young women. Dermoids rarely become cancerous. Cancer occurs in only 1-2 percent of cases, usually in women over 40.

Dermoids often cause no symptoms and are noted as an enlargement of the ovary on a routine pelvic exam. However, they may twist on themselves and cause severe pain, and occasionally they rupture, producing peritonitis, or irritation of the abdominal and pelvic cavity. In order to prevent these complications, it's best to remove dermoids when they are found. The surgery will involve removing the dermoid itself; unless it involves the entire ovary, the rest of the ovary is left behind. The surgeon may use either laparoscopy (surgery using miniature tools through tiny incisions) or an open approach, depending on the size and location of the dermoid as well as the surgeon's skill.

Removal of a dermoid should not affect your fertility  (+ info)

I have a spinal dermoid cyst and I need help?

I have had 5 opertations to drain the cyst in my spine over the last 18 years. The last operation was 3 years ago, however since that operation the cyst is refilling and after being admitted to hospital when the pain got so bad they did an aspiration to remove the blood in the cyst that must have been caused by a bleed. The specialist thought the bleeding would stop and the cyst would stop refilling. However, the problem is still going on and a radiologist is giving me aspirations ever 4 to 6 weeks. The pain is really getting to me and I can only take so many ibrobrufen! I need to decide on next steps and could do with some advice and particularly specialist that you would recommend.

Im 21 with dermoid cyst and a complex cyst about to looses my ovarys.....the dermoid is 20cm the complex is 16cm...anyone go through the same thing or have cysts..please share
----------

I have never had cyst or anything of that nature But I do know that by getting a complete Hysterectomy you do have other option. That is a Big Surgery. After you will have to take hormones for the rest of your life. that's a huge thing also. Since it might cause heart attack or stroke, cancer, many things. You need those Ovaries. Tell your Doctor that if all possible you would like to keep your ovaries and if he thinks you need a Complete Hysterectomy Then by all means get a second oppion, maybe even a third or forth opinion. It is your body. Sometimes them Doctor's might be to quick to say you need a Complete Hysterectomy, especially if you have insurance they can Milk. That is their Bread and Butter. And it is your Body. So remember that. God Bless You!  (+ info)
