Put your hand on your belly button.
You can put one hand on your upper chest.
Breathe in.
Concentrate on your breath. Is your belly button moving, or is it your chest?
If it's your chest (and it likely is), then concentrate on making the hand over your belly button move.
Then concentrate on making the hand over your belly button move instead of the hand on your upper chest.
It helps me to say "breathe" slowly as I do this. (

"Fat" tai chi people? Does diaphragmatic breathing cause stomach to grow?
A number of tai chi practitioners I know are incredibly skilled and strong and even though they look slim in their faces and necks, their stomachs are significantly large. And my grandfather who sung opera for decades is in great shape apart from his stomach which has a largeness that he explains as diaphragmatic development instead of fat.
Is there anything to this? Do people who do years of diaphragmatic breathing or qigong sometimes develop large stomachs even when they eat light and exercise regularly?
