What are the problems in taking the DNA for the AIDS viruses envolope and inserting it into the cowpox virus?

The two previous answers are correct, it is RNA, not DNA. But if what you are eluding to is inserting the coding into the cowpox virus in order to make a vaccine, it still won't work.

HIV is a rather rapidly mutating virus - this means it changes it's code frequently. If you were to sample the HIV present in infected individuals world-wide, you would find thousands and thousands of individual viral codes. So by the time scientists would be able to make a vaccine and produce it and administer it, the virus they started with would have changed its code and may no longer be susceptible to the vaccine made. Besides, it would likely not be effective to the other thousands of viral strains that have mutated to be different form the one they started with.

In other words, it just wouldn't work, because even if you got vaccinated against one strain, you could still possible be infected by another strain.  (+ info)

could getting a virus like the flu virus alter your dna?

In the book "Next" by Michael Crichton and from other things that I have read about gene thearpy that one of the ways of performing this procedure is to attach the dna to a virus... could it be possible with every new virus or modified virus that our dna could change/alter our dna?
----------

researchers have long known about recombinant dna transfer in organisms. the current therapies use deactivated infectors to trigger the body's immune responses to foreign dna to build a defensive recognition and response profile, newer research is working on the mitocondrial dna factors useing an assortment of carrier entities to deliver select rna factors into the cells to alter +/or combine with the existing strands of dna present to change their state, alter performance of activie processes, which processes are increased/reduced, paused, stopped, or eliminated  (+ info)

I have been sick/virus/infections for 6 months straight. What is wrong with me?

My sicknesses range from stomach flu, cold, sinus infection, bronchitis, etc. My doctor ran a complete blood analysis on me and my white blood cells are low, my liver function is high. So I'm going through more labs now. I've had negative HIV tests for the past 13 years now. I am so sick of being sick. This is not like me. I'm 32 years old! My body always aches, I'm exhausted all the time. Any comments, advice, web sites for research would be a big help to me.
Also, I dont drink, smoke or use drugs.
----------

You might have hepatits c...sounds like it...i've been an o.r. nurse for 32 years and have it...it's not a death sentence, in fact, most people respond to interferon therapy...go to a gastroenterologist...a g.i. doc, and get worked up.....and don't panic...i've had it for over 20 years...  (+ info)

can the dna of the aids virus be changed to create a cure for aids?

can the dna of any disease be changed to create a cure.if so,it would possibly rid the world of all known diseases and as a result create longer lives, which would lead to an over populated planet.however if you can shift the dna on mars to emulate the earths dna ,it would make mars habitable.,would'nt you agree?
----------

No I don't agree. You are either being silly, or you need to pay more attention in science class.

I wish the DNA of the aids virus could be changed to create a cure for aids, but I am sure it is not that simple or we would have been right on that.

And how can you shift the DNA of a planet? Only living things have DNA the building block of inanimate objects like planets is molecules.  (+ info)

What career diagnoses infections, diseases, viruses?

What would the job title be for a person who works in the lab and examines samples of dna or mucus to tell if a person is infected with a disease, virus or infection etc ? Just wondering because i am very interested in this and wish to study. thank you

Take Biomedical Science courses. Later you can find a career dealing with infections, diseases, viruses amd medicine!  (+ info)

What kind of infections can hair splinters cause?

I work at a hair salon and someone told me that cut hair can get in your skin like a splinter. They said that the hair contains DNA and that the DNA would cause the infection. Is this true? If so, what kind of infections, diseases and viruses?
----------

That is completely false. You probably can get a hair splinter, but you'd be susceptible to the same things as you would with any other splinter. You can get a bacterial infection. Put some neosporin on the site and keep it clean.  (+ info)

how many DNA or in a HIV virus?

i'm thinking of seven but my brother told me it's 9 so i'm not sure?
----------

Sounds like you're asking how many genes are in an HIV virus.

Your brother is right - it's nine: gag, pol, env, tat, rev, nef, vif, vpr and vpu. Occasional isolates have a tenth - tev.

HIV's genetic code is RNA, not DNA.  (+ info)

Does leaving your DNA around help bacteria and viruses attack you?

For example, a person with an infection hawks a loogy, the bacteria/virus invades the saliva and gains additional immunity to your immune system. Yes, No, Why?
----------

no, unless that bacterium is able to be repeatedly exposed to you and allowed to reproduce enough for natural selection to take place.  (+ info)
