How do you establish that infection causes due to floating microbes, virus in the atm in operation theater?

It is said that there is little evidence to show that air plays a significant role in the transmission of most healthacre-associated infections ( respiratory diseases). How do I defy this statement?
----------

Well that's completely absurd because almost every fungal opportunistic infection that takes place in a hospital is from an airborne exposure (breathing in spores and fungal fragments) Many bacterial and viral infecions have airborne vectors as well. This is why I hate hospitals, they're supposed to be clean antiseptic places but they're really giant germ traps where people with compromised immune systems are at serious risk.  (+ info)

Why do more mutations occur in the virus than in the host?

The virus uses the host cell to produce more copies of itself. As the viral RNA replicates in the host, mutations arise much more frequentlyin the viral genome than in the host genome (which replicates DNA). Why do more mutations occur in the virus than in the host?
----------

Ryan, as you probably know, viruses can only replicate (produce more copies of itself) when it is inside a cell, either in the host or in a cell culture in the lab. The abnormal forms of virus that may result (called "mutations") occur in a random (haphazard) form. Many of the new viral genomes form within the cell, the mutations, are not able to continue to reproduce and become extinct. Those viruses that do form viable mutations can then continue to exist of to destroy the cell(s). All mutations do occur in the host or host cell cultures, but many cannot survive and reproduce to form any cancerous changes. Those that do survive and reproduce can grow to destroy the host or cells in culture. Welcome to Answers.  (+ info)

What is an RNA virus and how does it work?

I understand what DNA viruses do:

1. Inject DNA into host cell
2. Cell creates multiple copies of virus
3. Cell bursts open and virus spreads

What about RNA? Any difference?
----------

Exactly same thing just uses RNA as a template instead of DNA  (+ info)

is Human Papilloma Virus a DNA or RNA virus?

All members of the following groups contain DNA except a) bacteria b) fungi c) helminths d) protozoa e)virus?

Viruses can contain either RNA or DNA but not both. So, the answer is partially viruses. All the other groups contain DNA and RNA.

And, helminths are a group of parasitic worms.  (+ info)

I have a sore throat and my ear aches when I swallow, also my teeth hurt, Is this a bacteria or virus?

For the past week my throat has been sore and everytime i swallow my ear aches. Also my teeth are very sesitive and hurt. I have had sinus infections before but I dont want to waste my time going to the doctors if they tell me its a virus and to go home and get plenty of rest. Should I go anyway?
----------

Probally another sinus infection, but could also be mono or ear infection, or bad tooth, etc. And only a Dr. would be able to take a blood sample to see if this infection is being caused by a virus or if it is bacterial. If this has been going on for a whole week, I would recommend you get it checked out.  (+ info)

aids can be cured if we learn to look at the advances we have made we can manipulate the dna of the virus to ?

shut the multipling gene off just look at how scientist have taken the florecent gene from a jelly fish and incorperated in a mouse there for the mouse glows like a jelly fish
----------

see the problem with aids is that is it a very intelligent virus.
it constantly changes so that our body cannot fight it
its not as simple as finding to cure one virus strand
but all the different mutations of it  (+ info)

why can't restriction enzymes be used against the DNA of the HI Virus, thus producing possibleHIV medication?

Restriction enzymes can not be used because HIV is a RNA virus and not a DNA virus.  (+ info)

Can the microwave oven be used to kill bacterial infections in food?

My Fiancee shared some chili fries with me a few weeks ago (she's a sweetheart). She had bronchitis at the time. I figured that by heating the food in the microwave for a minute, that it would destroy any communicable bacteria. Was I wrong?

I ended up being sick anyway, which may have been inevitable.

Can heating shared foods in the microwave kill the cold virus or other disease if the person eating the item before were sick?
----------

Great question.

It is as effective as heating the bacteria up to whatever the ambient temperature of the food is with another method.

No better, no worse. It is the heat that is doing the killing, not the microwaves.

So, if you put a big container of water filled with germs in there and zapped 'em for 30 seconds, it would probably not kill them. If you put a small container, it probably would.

Since all life has an element of water in it, putting something with germs that is basically dry in a microwave and zapping it would kill them virtually instantly.  (+ info)
