What can I do about chronic eye injuries?

5 or 6 times in the last few years I have had scratches on my cornea that become infected. This is getting really old really fast. Each time I have to go to the opthomologist, get prescribed really expensive eyedrops, and put up with pain and light sensitivity for several days. My only theory is that I'm trying to gouge my eyes out in my sleep or something, as I think I'd notice if my eye was scratched that badly while I was awake. Has anyone ever had a similar problem?
----------

There are several things that can scratch your cornea. Probably the most likely ones in your situation are your fingernails (if you're rubbing your eyes) or an eyelash that gets stuck in your eye. You'd probably notice if you had an eyelash in your eye long term, though. Take a close look at how you take care of your eyes. The next time you get a scratch, think carefully about everything that has come in contact with your eye. Also, talk to your eye doctor about his/her take on why this is happening so frequently.  (+ info)

What sort of therapies and technology are used for people with incurable retinal detatchment?
----------

First of all, Occupational therapists do not perform laser eye surgery. It would most likely be activity adaptations and environmental modifications to be able to perform tasks. Some types of adaptive equipment or assistive devices might also be incorporated.  (+ info)

Does anyone know of a web site to find information about eye injuries? (see details)?

My daughter has a scratch on her eye, andit is pretty big. I am trying to find out what kind of complications if any this can cause. We are military, and you have to be very informed when dealing with the doctors to make sure they are doing what needs to be done.
We have already been to the doctor twice, and have another appointment tomorrow. I was just wanting to make sure they were doing everything needed. Everything is looking good though.

Regarding my previous question about a black eye with no other injuries . . .?

LOL - Briana! You're right! I meant to have this question be part of another someone else asked. Here's the full question: If an elderly person has only a black eye and no other injuries or bruises, how likely is it that it's the result of a fall?

Thanks . . .

What are the designs in the iris of the eye called?

In most people with lighter colored eyes you can see what looks like diamond shapes or fibers in the iris (the color part of the eye). What are these fibers or designs called and what are they. Also I heard that they can be caused by injuries. Sounds false?
Why do some people have more crypts then others?
----------

The variations of the iris strands are called crypts.

EDIT: It is simply related to the fact that all people are different. There isn't anyone else in the world that looks like me. Likewise, there isn't anyone else in the world who has the same iris architecture as I do. Some security technology actually employs iris architecture analysis.  (+ info)
