Can incontinence be a result of a miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage at almost 12 weeks about 4 years ago. Ever since I've had trouble with incontinence, getting worse as time goes on. I asked my gyno and she said it should stop but I'm not sure. Can the incontinence be a result of the miscarriage? Is it something I should be worried about? I'm only 30 and don't want to have to wear something every day in fear of having a leakage issue.
----------

Not normally. You may be on medications that cause it. And yes, it should stop. also, pay attention to damaged or sore perineum, rectum or rectal muscles, but they will heal. If you mean bladder control, see UTI.  (+ info)

Are there any drugs or pills available without a prescription that help with incontinence?

What is a good way to cure Fecal Impaction?

I have Fecal Impaction and it really hurts. I've tried an enema, glycern suppository, magnesium citrate, and nothing is working. I don't want to go to the hospital unless there is no other choice. But I can't stand it much longer and I'm hoping there is a solution.
----------

If nothing has worked.......call your doctor or head to the hospital. Sounds like you've tried some heavy duty stuff.

Good luck!  (+ info)

How do I hygienically dispose of my adult incontinence products in public?

I am so embarrassed. I'm an attractive 54 year old, profession woman active in sports and have a fairly high income however suffer terribly from incontinence. I am happy with my absorbent products but haven't found one way to discreetly and hygienically dispose of them!! HELP ......
----------

My mother puts them in the hygiene box, that is in the stall.
When there isn't one available, she wraps it in toilet paper & throws it in the trash, then puts her papertowel over it.
Sometimes she carries a plastic bag in her purse & puts it in there, just incase there isn't a disposal area avaliable.  (+ info)

Is it useless to order a fecal Alpha 1 antitrypsin and NOT an BLOOD Alpha 1 antitrypsin ?

If the child has chronic diarrhea for 3 year and an al fecal is ordered, doesn't it make sense to order an A1 blood test too, just in case an A1 deficiency IS the problem, in a child with COPD?

IF a person is A1 deficient, wouldn't that warrant a low A1 fecal, even if the child IS loosing other proteins?
----------

Actually, yes. Severe alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency is diagnosed by an a-1 antitrypsin level below 50-80 mg/dL, as well as a genetic test for the type of deficiency (there are over 100 variations of this gene!).
This child should see a geneticist for a more thorough evaluation.  (+ info)

Is it possible to cause incontinence by misplacing catheter on someone?

While I was in labor, since I had an epidural, they placed a catheter on me. Later the doctor told me they had put the catheter on bad - where there was blood going through it. I ended up having complete incontinence for 2 weeks, where pee would just pour out of me when I stood up from bed or anything. I'm wondering if this could have been caused by the way they placed the catheter on me poorly. Thoughts?
----------

It is possible, though a catheter wouldn't "scrape" the urethra. Also, simply having a child can be a cause of temporary incontinence. You should look up "Kegel Exercises" to help strengthen the muscles that help control urination. You should also go and visit your GYN or a Urologist. You shouldn't have to worry about wearing diapers forever, this should go away in time; but it is wise to consult the doctors who make the big bucks to ensure there is no structural damage (urethral strictures, nerve, or muscle damage).  (+ info)

What do the different colors of fecal mean?

Can you determine how your insides are by the color of your fecal. i.e. brown, green, beige?
----------

Your fecal matter is normally brown and depending on what you have eaten, this will determine the color. I once had a piece of cake with purple icing. The next day, I had purple fecal matter. If you take Pepto-Bismol, your stool will turn black. If you don't take Pepto-Bismol and you stool is black, it means you have blood in your fecal matter (like a bleeding ulcer, etc.) If you see that, go to the doctor. Also, watch out for green stool, that can usually mean you have an infection, although not always. You might have eaten a cake with green icing. LOL.  (+ info)

How does fecal matter change color and what does it mean?

I know fecal matter changes color and shades of brown are natural but I also know it changes colors when you are missing something or have to much of something. What does it mean? Some colors like black, green, yellow, pale.
Thanks

Would you use a medical device that cures urinary incontinence and rehabilitates the pelvic floor.?

You would need to do daily exercises for a couple of weeks. These exercises would be monitored by a doctor to make sure that you were doing them correctly.

Most woen don't do the kegel exercises correctly or at all. This device measures daily activity.

Would you do this to end your incontinence?
----------

it depends on what you mean by medical device...is it something you have to have surgically put in? if so will it last forever or will you have to have it replaced? or is it something you just use daily?
i would also consider how much of a problem your incontinence is. if it is something that really bothers you, then by all means do what you need to to fix it. if i was in your situation most likely i would want that problem cured, especially if you are young.  (+ info)

Can sciatica contribute to or cause incontinence?

I have had this problem with incontinence for years. Used to be just a sneezing or coughing thing but it has now escalated to involuntary moments which are usually small but have been bigger. I also have severe sciatica and am unable to walk for long distances or stand on my feet for very long at a time. Could the sciatica be making it worse?

Thanks for your help.
----------

If you have had babies in the past, some of the muscles in your pelvis could be weak and causing urine to leak

Also, as you get older, you have estrogen. This can also cause relaxation of the things holding up your urethra and causing urinary incontinence

One more thing to check for is uterine prolapse as a cause for incontinence

See your Gynecologist or a Urologist  (+ info)
